THE MISSION OF THE DISCIPLES

It was the mission that mainly given in order to test the disciples' learning, understanding and applicable
ability. He trained them by teaching and explaining everything for them to understand, his mission and
vision priority. That was to prepare them for the mission ahead in times of his absence.

THE MISSION OF THE TWELVE(12)

Jesus sent the twelve disciples on trial missions. It means that they could fail or succeed. They were
charged not to extend their mission to the Gentiles. Gentiles are referred to the foreigners or even the
Samaritans who were Half Jews or half foreigners. It was due to the limited time on their side at that
moment. Therefore, he instructed the disciples to do the following:

1. To heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons

2. They were urged to do the work without asking for a reward

3. They were urged not to take with them extra clothes, money, sandals, food, or staff along.

4. They should peacefully greet the people of every village or town they entered.

5. They were to bless a house that received them and immediately leave a house that did not welcome
them and therefore go to other places.

6. They all went as a single group.

THE MISSION OF THE SEVENTY (70)

Jesus sent another batch of his apostles' for a mission. This time, they were sent out in pairs (twos). It
was because there were many unbelievers with limited time to preach to the lost souls. He sent them as
innocent lambs amidst of wolves.

1. Each of the pairs were instructed not to carry their purses with them.

2. They should not carry bags or sandals

3. They should not greet anyone on the road.

JESUS' TEACHING ON THE MOUNT (OLIVES)

During the Jesus' ministry here on earth, he taught people mostly on the Mount. It was often on Mount
Olives. He taught them about the demands of the kingdom of God. Here, God's kingdom is referred to
God's rule in our hearts when we obey Him.

This means that we should behave in certain ways that are acceptable to God. And these teachings are
been grouped according to the various Blessings to be enjoyed by the doers. And the various blessings
are referred to as BEATITUDES.

And if we adhere to the Jesus' teachings then we can be the SALT of this world. And if we are the salt of
the world there is no need for Vengeance but can rather Forgive one another easily. Therefore, we
should Pray and Fast in order to set our minds on the things that are above ( in heaven) rather than the
earthly materials such as riches, fame and, power.
Thus, the word BEATITUDE is derived from the Latin word BEATUS which means BLESSINGS, HAPPINESS,
SUCCESS, or, PROSPEROUS in the kingdom of God either for a while here or in the life after.

It is very important for everyone to learn and recite the beatitudes as below:

1. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

2. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

5. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

6. Blessed are the pure in heart (spirit), for they shall see God.

7. Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called the children of God.

8. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of God.

9. Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward is great in heaven, for some men persecuted the Prophets who were before you."

CHRISTIANS AS THE SALT AND LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Christians As The SALT and The LIGHT of the World: We are seen to be the salt and the light of the world
because the non-believers do not know or understand the will of God in this world but the Christians
do. As the salt of the world, it symbolizes the conscious means of preserving the word of God by his
followers, Christians. The salt preserves, therefore, makes the society so pleasant ( full of peace and
harmony) to live in thus christians are supposed to be seen as the custodians of peace and order for all
mankind. It means that Christians should make the world like the extension of heaven here on earth.

Christians as the LIGHT of the world, means that we have received the revealed knowledge and
understanding of the will of God through His son, Jesus Christ, who declares himself as the light of the
world. Thus, we too understand and receive the teachings of Jesus Christ that is applicable in all
ramifications. Our lives must portray the true teachings of Christ practically.

On FORGIVENESS, Christians are urged to forgive one another in order for God to also forgive us.
Forgiveness is the ability to let go of an offence been committed against you by someone or oneself.
Therefore, it is an ability to easily let go of an offence that is committed by someone.

However, we are charged to always engage in self indulgence through fasting and prayer. We should
shun from the love of money because it seems to be the root of evil.
We are advised not to set our priorities on worldly perishable materials but rather put hope on the
things in heaven. This is the only means for us to have peace of mind as God intended for the mankind.
