2020 GREENHILLS HOSTAGE CRISIS

- more than 60 individuals were held hostage by former security guard Alchie
Paray for around 10 hours last March 2, 2020
- Now, who is Alchie Paray? What pushed him to be a hostage taker?
- Si paray ay 40 years old that time who has been working for the last 5 years as
a security guard for Safeguard Armor Security Corporation (SASCOR)
- He's a PNP-accredited guard whose last assignment was at the entrance of V-
Mall
- and he was very strict by enforcing the mall’s no id no entry policy para sa mga
tenants
- and then because of that, isa sa mga tenant ay hindi nya pinapasok kasi
walang dalang required id, pero eventually nakapasok ito using another entrance
- so nagalit yung tenant, binalaan si paray na hindi na raw sya tatagal dun
- then all of a sudden, he was ordered reassignment to another place, so this
means na change of commute, management, even change in sets friends
- this came up with the conclusion na yung mga boss nya were allegedly bribed
by that tenant for only 5,000 pesos
- nagquit sya sa work nya but he was simply recorded as having AWOL or
absence without leave and he was replaced by another guard
- at ayun na nga, yun yung nagtulak sa kanya na gawin yung panghohostage
- during those 10 hours hostage taking, meron syang mga demand, kapalit ng
pagpapalaya nya sa mga hostage gusto nyang magsorry yung mga boss nya at
mag resign sa trabaho at magkaron sya ng pagkakataon na magsalita sa harap
ng media
- why? Because he wanted to be heard by everybody and he wanted to expose
the corruption happening in their organization
- after palabasin yung mga hostage, lumabas na rin sya then sinabi nya lahat ng
hinaing nya sa harap ng media and seconds later cops tackled him to the ground
then took him under their custody
- okay so that’s the story and the problem, next is what would be the possible
ways to make the system more efficient?
- First I suggest to security guards of the given company, their bosses should
provide them the training of:
How to communicate quickly with emergency services – security guards
should make quick decisions and prioritize duties
And of course, they should be given seminars and trainings about emergency
procedures
At syempre importante na maalam din sila sa first aid
And last, kung meron silang physical trainings, dapat meron din silang mindset
securities – because as we all know, ang mga guard sila ang madalas na mata
at tenga ng isang institusyon, sila madalas yung first responder so of course mas
maganda kung merong trainings ang seminars for them na nagsusupport sa
wellbeing nila and their mental health should be protected in order for them to
exercise their duties effectively and enhance their leader capability

- So kung merong training program ang mga security guards, o mga employee,
meron din dapat yung mga bosses or employers
- from my opinion, mas maganda kasi na nakikita ng employee mo na hindi lang
sila yung nagtatrabaho para sa company, the employers should take a stand also
- kasi if you’re a leader, you should be able to do what your employees can do
kasi napagdaanan mo na yung trabahong yun, hindi lang dahil nilagay ka ng
kung sinong mataas dyan sa pwesto mo, you are there because you work hard
for that position
- okay so yung mga possible seminars and trainings for them are:
Avoiding Discriminating and Harassing Workplace Behavior – actually
this traning can be given to both, employees and employers
Second is, Sensitivity Training for Managers and Supervisors

- lahat ng mga nabanggit ko ay ilan lang sa mga effective ways to avoid conflict
katulad nga nung sa greenhills hostage crisis
- so there you have it, that concludes my assessment to this particular issue that
involves security industry
