According to Globocan in 2020, there were 474,519 new cases of leukaemia and 311,594

deaths from leukaemia worldwide. My aunt is one of the fighters. She was the one who
always reassured me and the one who always believed in my potential. She used to say
"What if I cannot see you become a doctor later? My aunt fought hard through a lot of
chemotherapy and was finally called by God 3 years ago. Devastated, that might describe
everyone at the time. I promised her that no matter what, I have to be a cool doctor in the
future. I am Keisya Azzara and I am from Shafiyyatul Amaliyyah School and I am ambitiously
eager to help everyone equally regardless of social status.

Leukaemia has taken a heavy toll because no effective treatment has been found yet.
Although there are many therapies that patients can undergo, leukaemia is arguably a
cancer cell that is categorised as very malignant. One of my missions is to conduct further
research on cancer cells that are difficult to treat, as well as to help patients despite their
lack of finances due to the treatment that is classified as very expensive. My next mission is
to do routine checks on the condition of children and parents at the Indonesian Cancer
Foundation free of charge. In my opinion, seeing them smile despite having to struggle to
live with tremendous pain is a gift. By entering IUP medical UGM, I will be able to exchange
ideas with other great people in building health in Indonesia for the better.

To achieve my goal, I must be good in both academic and non-academic aspects. In 2023,
I joined a short course programme called PDVL in the UK for 6 months. There, I learnt so
much. I was grouped in a team and then had to think of a new invention and had to present
the concept, price, and other things. It was a difficult task but luckily we managed to do it.
We learnt how to interact with others, bring together various thoughts, work effectively as a
group, listen, speak, and evan present. I used to take time for granted too, especially during
exam deadlines. As a result, I got a mediocre grade at that time even though my exam
results were quite good. I didn't know that this also affected my graduation transcript. From
that too, I learnt that the slightest thing can have an impact on something big. Thankfully, I
was able to get through it all with a distinction.

I am also fairly good on the social side. My team and I have participated in two
international research event competitions and both received gold medals. Paper cups and
batteries that are both environmentally friendly are the results of our research. Critical
thinking and always preparing for the worst is the key to this research. Many errors occur
and we have been trained to always be ready to find something to overcome them. I played
a big role in presenting the product in this research. To be a presenter, I must have good
public speaking skills and convince others that the product works. This skill is very necessary
when becoming a doctor because doctors must be good at expressing diagnoses so that
patients feel more comfortable. Panicked patients also sometimes react differently so we
have to be more patient in interacting with them, a small example is convincing children
when they have to be injected.

UGM Faculty of Medicine implements a structured learning programme that allows one to
focus on each course, a system that is suitable for individuals like me who prefer to study
one focus. IUP medicine UGM also has an updated curriculum. In addition, this programme
has international exposure which gives us the opportunity to study abroad, opening up a
wider range of perspectives. I really hope to be accepted at IUP Med UGM because of my
strong ambition and my desire to discuss more with the professors there about things in the
scope of health that are certainly still unfamiliar to me.
