Statement of Purpose

I am brought up in Mumbai, the "City of dreams", where people to come to pursue their
goals and dreams. Growing up, I had a lot of ambitions, one of them, becoming a lawyer to
defend the truth and provide justice to the oppressed, another, teaching and developing the
intellect of young, talented individuals. The human body, its physiological functions and the
manner in which the body functions, leading to quality of living were what really drew my
interest. In addition to being a noble career, it offers the most difficult endeavours one may
pursue.

When I was twelve years old, I suffered an injury that required plastic surgery on my index
finger. However, the most troubling aspect of the procedure was the intense physical
therapy I had to endure to restore the strength and functionality of my finger, which made
the recovery process extremely challenging for me. This incident made me realise that I
wanted to work in the area of medicine where people had given up on themselves but were
still able to function and manage their pain without resorting to take medications. This
approach helped me realise that I wanted to study physical therapy, which sparked my
interest in the area and helped me become passionate about helping individuals reach their
maximum potential in terms of physical fitness.

I was ecstatic to get accepted into my course. My parents were my greatest supporters
during this time of uprooting and shifting states to follow my dream; their encouragement
helped me realise that I wanted to achieve my goals. I put all my efforts into my first
semester's studies, when the results were announced, I was overjoyed to have secured the
top spot at my college. My parents said that this was the best gift they had received. One of
my seniors, congratulated me on my achievement and told me to keep up my good work in
the remaining semesters. She also said that “while it is great to achieve something, it is even
more wonderful to maintain it”. I never forgot this advice, and I made sure to secure first
place in my class in the later semesters. I finished the bachelor course with top rank at the
university. It was an accomplishment for me.

During my undergraduate studies, I finished two research projects.

1) Comparative study between the effects of Myofascial Release Technique and

Phonophoresis followed by Cervical Isometrics in pain and range of motion on
patients with Trapezitis- IJPTRS- Volume 2 Issue 4 - October - November - December,
2023.
2) Understanding the psychological component of pain: Systematic review of literature
in applying positive psychology to enhance physiotherapy outcome- EPRA
JOURNALS- Volume 7 Issue 8 August 2021.

I encountered a variety of fields during my degree, including women's health, neuro

rehabilitation, paediatrics, cardio-respiratory, musculoskeletal systems and disorders made
me more determined to become proficient in these areas of expertise. Nonetheless, I
discovered that working in intensive care units—where physical therapy is essential to
maintaining patients' life expectancy—was the most difficult aspect of my fieldwork.
Through observations, tutorials, lectures, seminars, conferences, application of various
manipulative skills and techniques, hands-on practice, and clinical placements in each unit, I
got expertise in all of the aforementioned fields that enabled me to apply the information to
improve the condition of the patients. During my six-month internship at a multispecialty
hospital in Mumbai, I had the opportunity to work with patients in both the inpatient and
outpatient departments who had fractures, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, post-tumour
excision, heart surgeries including valve repair and bypass. I saw a variety of acute injuries
when I was an observer at an outpatient clinic during my study, including low back pain,
knee pain, cervical pain, tennis elbow, scoliosis and ankle sprains etc.

After doing some research, I discovered that the Coventry University offers a wide range of
health-related courses, all of which are designed and instructed by highly qualified experts. I
was always interested in pursuing a master's degree in Cardio-Respiratory, Musculoskeletal
and Neuro Rehabilitation and after doing research, I realised how that Coventry University
offers a course in all of these sectors. While learning more about the university, I became
aware of its excellent laboratories, libraries, courses, campus and chances for me to conduct
independent research. Furthermore, I discovered that the program's main objective is to
provide students practical experience, which benefits everyone. I am eager to learn from
the experts. Studying MSc Advance Physiotherapy Rehabilitation, I want to gain specialized
knowledge of this area along with contributing to research at your renowned university.

My goal is to use the knowledge I have received throughout my MSc curriculum in Advance
Physiotherapy Rehabilitation to better assist the patients I will be working with. Additionally,
since methods and treatments for improving patients' health change constantly, there will
be a growing need for specialists who can treat patients completely and effectively. As a
proponent of gradual but swift progress, I anticipate myself spearheading a group of
proficient physical therapists to enhance our patients' results with utmost diligence in the
next few years. My long-term objective is to have a lucrative career in physiotherapy
research and to fully utilise the field's potential in a variety of contexts. This course will help
me acquire skills that will enable me to pursue my professional goals and fulfil my desire to
do research.

In conclusion, my decision to pursue a master degree in the discipline of physiotherapy has

been shaped by my excellent academic foundation and my passion for the profession. I have
no doubt that this programme will give me the materials and tools I need to further improve
my abilities and knowledge.
