I. WHO IS CHARLES DARWIN

 An English naturalist, biologist and geologist


 Famous for his theory of evolution
 He changed our concept of the world’s creation and its evolution
 Genius who came from a line of intellectually gifted and wealthy family
 He developed his interest in natural history during his time as a student Shrewbury
School
 Darwin’s life soon changed when one of his professors recommended him to join a five-
year voyage through the HMS beagle on the Islands of Galapagos

 In 1859, published his book, The Origin of Species

II. DARWIN’S THEORY OF EVOLUTION

What is Evolution

 The process by which organism change over time as a results of changes in heritable
physical or behavioral traits.

What is Natural Selection

 Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution states that evolution happens by natural selection
 The theory is sometimes described as “ survival of the fittest”

III. CONTENT OF DARWIN’S THEORY OF EVOLUTION

 All organisms are related and have descended from a common ancestor
 Variations in a population help different species to survive
 The animals that do survive and reproduce are better adapted organisms ( survival of the
fittest)
 Random genetic mutation occur within organism’s genetic code; aid survival.

IV. THE DESCENT OF MAN

 The Descent of Man was so impressive yet very controversial


 He introduced the idea of all organic life, including human beings, under the realm of
evolutionary thinking.
