Lesson 3 – Installing Operating System and XP Service Pack

Lesson Overview

This practical hands-on training will provide the trainees the skill in installing the Windows XP
operating system and service pack.

Lesson Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the trainees will be able to:

 Install Windows XP
 Install Service Pack.

1) During the Boot Up process press any key to boot from CD ROM

2) Wait until Setup loads the necessary drivers, then press Enter to setup

3) Read the End User License Agreement (EULA), then press F8 to continue

4) If there is a partition delete the partition by pressing D, then press Enter to
setup Windows XP

5) Select Format the partition using the NTFS file system, press Enter

6) Wait until Setup finishes the formatting process, it may take a while
depending on the hard disk size

7) Setup will begin copying files to the hard disk

8) After it is finished, press any key to restart or wait for 15 seconds

9) The computer will restart and begin installing windows

10) Regional And Language Options will appear, click next

11) Supply the name and organization, click Next

12) Enter the product key, click Next

13) Enter the Computer name and Administrator password, click Next

14) For Networking Settings, choose Typical Settings, click Next

15) For Workgroup or Computer Domain, choose Workgroup, click Next

16) For Date and Time Settings, choose +8:00 for the Time Zone, then adjust
the date and time when necessary, click Next

17) Setup will continue installing Windows

18) Setup will finalize the installation

19) After the installation, the computer will restart, then click Ok

20) If you can read the message, click Ok

21) Click Next

22) Click Next

23) During the Registration process, choose No, not at this time then click Next

24) Enter the Username on Your name field, the username can be anything except
the Computer name, Administrator or Guest

25) Click Finish

26) If the CD Rom has no Service Pack, install the Service Pack by double clicking
the filename

27) Setup will extract the file into a directory

28) Click Next

29) Choose I Agree, click Next

30) Click Next

31) Setup will check for necessary hard disk space

32) Setup will backup essential files

33) Setup will continue with the installation

34) Finishing the installation

35) Click Finish to restart

36) Choose the first option, click next

37) Close the Security Center by clicking the red X mark on the upper right corner
