What is gravitation?
Gravitation or gravity is the force of attraction between any two bodies. All the objects in the
universe attract each other with a certain amount of force, but in most cases, the force is too
weak to be observed due to the very large distance of separation.
Centripetal force
The force with which two objects attract each other is called gravitational force. If the masses of
object are large, gravitational force between them is very large. The force that cause acceleration
and keeps the body moving along the circular path is acting towards the centre. This is called
centripetal force.
Example: Earths gravity on the moon, spinning a stone on a string. The movement of the moon
around the earth is due to the centripetal force.
Free Fall
Whenever objects fall towards the earth under the gravitational force alone, we say that the
objects are in free fall.
Pressure in Fluids
The pressure exerted by a fluid in a container is transmitted undiminished in all directions on the
walls of the container.
