Dear O’Gorman High School Families,

As Halloween approaches, we wanted to take a moment to share some guidelines regarding

appropriate costumes for our students. While we encourage creativity and fun on this festive
day, it's essential to ensure that all costumes are in alignment with our school's values and
maintain a respectful and safe environment for everyone.

Please consider the following when choosing costumes:

1. Modesty: Ensure that costumes are modest, not too revealing, or contain inappropriate
themes. Students must choose costumes that are respectful of our school's code of conduct.

2. Avoid Violence and Gore: Please discourage costumes that involve excessive blood, gore, or
violent themes, as they may be unsettling to others.

3. Cultural Sensitivity: Emphasize the importance of respecting different cultures and avoiding
costumes that could be culturally insensitive or offensive.

4. Masks: Masks may obstruct vision and can be a safety hazard. As such, they are not
permitted and we recommend makeup as an alternative.

5. Weapons and Props: Any costume accessories that resemble weapons must be left at home
to ensure a safe environment for all.

6. Religious Symbols: While we respect freedom of religion, please discourage costumes that
may use religious symbols in a manner that is not respectful.

We believe that Halloween can be a fun and enjoyable occasion for our students while
maintaining a respectful and inclusive atmosphere. We appreciate your cooperation in helping
us achieve this balance.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to a festive and respectful
Halloween celebration at O’Gorman High School.

Sincerely,

Dr. S Robertson
Principal
