The Family, Marriage, and Kinship + Kinship ties based on descent can be either matrilineal, patrilineal, or bilineal. ¢ Matrilineal kinship means that one’s descent is based on the female line. ¢ Patrilineal kinship, on the contrary, means that one’s descent is based on the male line. ¢ Bilineal kinship refers to a descent system based on both the male and female lines. Marriages can either be monogamous or polygamous. + For most Christian societies, marriage is monogamous which means that a spouse cannot have more than 1 spouse. Another type of polygamy is called polyandry where a wife can have many husbands. Ae The Economy ¢ The economy is an institution that addresses questions regarding limited resources of society. * The economy must address some basic questions such as: what should be produced? how are these products going to be produced? how much are these products? * The answers to these questions determine how the membere of the economy will behave. Educational and Health Institution + Two institutions that uphold basic human rights are the educational and health institutions. + Educational institutions ensure that individuals are functionally literate, while heath institutions ensure that individuals have access to health services to promote universal publicheai” -——“
