PRESENTATIONS AS MODES OF COMMUNICATION

1. Why should we consider the technology we have to use in presentations?

One of the significance of technology as a presentation tool is that

technology helps your presentation be more interactive and engaging. It also
increases your audience reach. For instance, technology now lets you have a
presentation through online or virtual. So even if your audience is from other
countries, you can still do the presentation.

Last but not the least, before giving a presentation, it is critical for you to
understand your target audience. This action reduces errors and increases the
impact of your presentation. If you customize your presentation to them, they will
be able to relate to it. For you to do that, technology helps you gather prior
knowledge of your audience. Social media can be used to learn more about your
target audience. This captivates your audience's interest, allows you to keep their
attention, and aids in the conversion of prospects. Social media apps such as
Facebook and Twitter allow you to promote your presentation and invite
prospects to be your audience. You can also host a webinar and distribute the
invitation link via your social media accounts.

2. How important is the introduction of your presentation?

The introduction is the most important part of delivering a message to a

large audience in modes or tools of communication such as presentations,
essays, and speeches. It is the key or foundation of a specific topic; it is the
section in which we should mindfully draw the audience's attention by introducing
and explaining the topic until the end of the entire presentation. Furthermore, an
introduction is essential because it outlines and conveys the given pieces of
information on a subject or topic, allowing the audience to mentally prepare and
anticipate the flow of the discussion. It should be an effective introduction
because if it is not, the audience will form a dull impression of our introduction,
which will lead to people becoming disinterested. There is no statement without
an introduction; therefore, including an introduction in a presentation highlights
the argument on a paper or presentation.

3. How can you maintain your audience’s attention in face-to-face and online presentations?
One of the best strategies to maintain the attention of your audience is to
keep your audience engaged in your presentation. Using technology is one of the
best ways to do it.

Technology makes your presentation more engaging, and you can now
interact with your audience to learn what they are thinking. For example software
presentations, this kind of presentation tool allows you to include a poll or a quick
survey so that your audience can participate in your presentation. That way, you
can exchange thoughts and information with your audience without knowing that
their full attention is already given to you.

On the other hand, according to Hansen (2016), there are several ways to
get your audience's full attention on your presentation. Some of them are;
increasing your visibility to your audience; leveraging your voice, letting your
audience process what they learn in your presentation, starting your presentation
on time; doing an interactive presentation; including key points; describing with
words that can make your audience imagine; simplifying your presentation; using
slide transitions in your presentation; and lastly, ending your presentation on
time.
