FILM REVIEW

TITLE: My best friend´s wedding

GENRE: romantic comedy

PLOT
Best friends and former lovers, Jules and Michael, haven´t seen each other for a while. While still at
university, they made a pact: if they are both 28 and unmarried, they marry each other. Jules´s 28 th
birthday is coming up and suddenly, she gets a call from Michael, who tells her that he´s getting
married to someone else in a few days and that she should come to the wedding. This news made Jules
really upset and jealous as she realized that she had loved him the whole time, but she had been afraid
to love someone. At first, she doesn´t want to come, but than she comes up with the craziest idea and
she leaves for Chicago to try to break them up.

STORY LINE
The film opens in a restaurant in New York in 1990s, where we see Jules and her editor/friend George.
Jules listens to a message from Michael and she tells George about the pact they made. Later, she calls
him and finds out that he´s getting married and gets really jealous, so she leaves for Chicago to meet
Michael´s fiancée, Kimmy. Due to some problems, Kimmy decides that Jules should be her maid of
honour and tries to get close with her, which Jules only uses to lie and create false reasons for them to
break up. Later, she even persuades George to come and help her express her true feelings to Michael,
but only ends up getting him caught up and herself in all her lies. Even though there were all the
schemes and dishonesty there is a wedding happening at the end of the film.

MY FAVOURITE SCENE
Just before the rehearsal dinner, Jules tries and fails to tell Michael that she loves him and actually
ends up telling him that she´s engaged to George (who is gay, by the way). George who had come as a
moral support gets rather angry about this and embarrasses Jules as he comes up with a twisted story
about how they had met and bursts out into a song at the rehearsal dinner in front of everyone.

I DIDN’T ENJOY
The plot was really unrealistic and at some points, the film was predictable. Jules was very immature
and Michael and Kimmy were a bit naive. I wish Jules would have at least taken the responsibility for
her actions, because the way it was, she was forgiven too quickly.

WHY WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS FILM TO OTHERS?

It´s funny and really entertaining. You don´t have to think much while watching because it´s really
simple. In some ways it´s also moving – I always cry at the end.
