    X-rays were invented in 1895 by German physicist Wilhelm Röntgen while experimenting with electromagnetic waves. X-rays use electromagnetic waves to create images of the inside of the body and were first used on a military battlefield in 1897. They have since helped NASA see into space and continue to be used in medicine to image the inside of the body.
