Daily Inspection Checklist for Shock-Absorbing Lanyard (SAL)

1. Shock-Absorber Element: Check for visible fall indicator warning label. If visible, SAL must be removed from service.

2. Connectors (Snap Hooks, Rebar Hooks, Carabiners): Check for signs of excessive corrosion, cracking, breakage,

deformation, or any damage. Ensure all rivets and rivet heads are intact with no cracking or burrs. Verify connectors are

free of grease, oil, dirt, mud, or any foreign substance.

3. Gate and Keeper Action (Snap Hooks and Rebar Hooks): Ensure the gate does not open with the keeper engaged.

Test gate opening and automatic closing mechanism. Verify keeper automatically locks the gate.

4. Gate Action (Carabiners): Confirm the gate does not open unless the barrel is twisted. Ensure smooth operation and

automatic locking.

5. Legs of SAL (Webbing, Rope, Steel Cable): Inspect for fraying, cuts, burns, discoloration, or any surface

contaminants that may affect material integrity. Check all stitch locations for broken or pulled stitches. For steel cables,

wear gloves for inspection and check for corrosion, cuts, burns, or broken wires and strands. Verify ferrules are securely

compressed and undamaged.

6. Labels and Warnings: Ensure all labels and warnings are attached and legible.

Final Assessment: Pass: SAL is in proper working order and fit for use. Fail: SAL failed inspection on one or more points

or is doubtful for safe operation. Remove from service and replace.
