Description of Incident:
On September 9, 2022, ABC Corporation in Batangas City experienced a diesel oil leak of 400 Liters
due to an open discharge valve. Promptly reported by the Roving Guard, the spill reached a nearby
creek but was contained within an hour by plant operators using spill booms. The recovered oil was
stored safely, and the affected creek was treated with an oil dispersant. Ongoing monitoring and
preventive measures have been implemented to avoid future incidents.
Estimated Amount of Chemicals, Hazardous Wastes, Emissions, and /or Effluent Released to the
Receiving Environment:
Approximately 400 Liters of diesel oil were released into the receiving environment during the
incident at ABC Corporation in Batangas City on September 9, 2022.
Probable Cause of the Incident:
The probable cause of the incident was the unintentional release of diesel oil due to the discharge
valve of the storage tank being left open at ABC Corporation in Batangas City on September 9, 2022.
Interim contingency measures implemented to mitigate potential negative impacts include the
prompt deployment of spill booms to contain the diesel oil spill, utilization of an oil skimmer for
recovery, treatment of affected areas with an oil dispersant, and the storage of recovered oil in drums
placed in a hazardous waste storage area. Ongoing monitoring and preventive actions are also in
place to minimize any further environmental consequences.
