Good afternoon, everyone! Good afternoon, Sir!
Before we start, may I request a volunteer to please

How is everyone today? Is it good so far? (Learner’s answer may vary)
III. PROCEDURE

Today, we are going to tackle something that I know

you are all aware of, but, still there are things that you Yes, sir!

Activity Title: "Simple Machine Identification
Challenge”
(Engage the learners on "Simple Machine
Identification Challenge." This activity encourages
observation, critical thinking, and understanding of
how these machines make everyday tasks more
manageable.)

I will divide you into two groups.

Each group will have to identify the simple machine
given to them and how it makes work easier and
faster.

Abstraction
Simple because they are easy to use, Ma’am.
Simple machines make work easier. These machines
have one or very few moving parts. Simple machines
work by changing the direction or amount of force.

Why are they called simple? Anyone who has an idea?

Very good answer.

There are six different types of simple machines.

We have the levers; inclined planes; wheels and axles;
pulleys; wedges; and screws.
Let’s start with the lever.
Do you have an idea what is a lever?

A lever is a simple machine consisting of a beam or

rigid rod pivoted at a fixed hinge, or fulcrum. A lever is
a rigid body capable of rotating on a point on itself.
On the basis of the locations of fulcrum, load and
effort, the lever is divided into three types.

1st class:

Effort – Fulcrum – Load

2nd class:

Effort – Load – Fulcrum

3rd Class Lever

Fulcrum – Effort – Load

Examples: Kudkuran/Coconut Grater, Waterpump,

Duyan/Hammock

An inclined plane has a plane surface at an angle to a

horizontal surface used especially as a device for
lessening the force needed to raise or lower heavy
objects.
Examples: Shopping mall ramps/Disabled lane, Slides,
Escalators, Staircases.

A pulley
A pulley is a tool with a wheel and a rope. It is used to
lift or move loads.

Examples:
Traditional Well system used to draw water from
underground sources.
Fisherman’s pulley used to lift or lower fishing nets.

A wheel and axle is one of the simple machines made

up of a cylindrical axle on which a wheel, concentric
with the axle, is firmly fastened. To make it work,
effort should be applied to the wheel and the weight
should be attached to the axle.

A bicycle is an example of a simple machine that

makes use of a wheel and axle to make it work. The
pedals of the bicycle are attached to the front
sprocket wheel. The front sprocket wheel serves as
the axle attached to the wheels of the bike which
move together to enable the bike to move forward
when a force is applied to the pedals.

(During the discussion, the learners will listen and

participate if there are certain questions asked and at the
Examples: Tricycles and Pedicabs, Jeepneys same time take down notes if necessary.)

A wedge is a tool that narrows to a thin edge. An ax is

an example of a wedge. Your teeth are wedge, too.

Examples of a wedge:
Bolo/Ital, Chisels in construction, Knife,

Poster making

Direction: Study the precautionary measures in using

simple machines. Choose one and make a poster
showing safety measures.

Safety Measures
• Never play with sharp and pointed tools.
• When carrying sharp and pointed tools like a knife,
position the pointed edge downward.
• Keep sharp and pointed tools in a toolbox
• Keep away from places where heavy loads are being
lifted by pulleys.
• Do not leave any object on the stairways.
• Check the ladder it is sturdy before using it
• Be sure that any tool is in good condition before
using it.
• Always keep small children away when using a
sharp tool.
•When you are through using any tool, put it back in
its proper place.
• Don’t forget to clean tools before putting them back
to their proper places.
