the Passage, Creative Accomplish + Takeaways
Element Explanation
01 Introduction
1. Passage

The passage we decided to use within our creative element is:

Luke 5:17-26

This story is also found in Mark 2:1-12 and Matthew 9:1-8

The title of this story is: “Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed
Man”.
2. Biblical Context
- Early in Jesus’ Ministry
- Jesus traveled around Galilee healing the sick
and teaching
- In Mark’s larger story, Jesus heals several
people such as the paralytic, Simon’s Mother In
Law, and a man with a withered hand.
- The story is used to express Jesus’ forgiving
nature and his power to forgive sins and
perform miracles
2. Biblical Context (Cont.)
- Mark is the first among the gospels written in
the New Testament
- Written for audience facing Roman
persecution
- Big focus on Jesus’ ministry
- Luke written after, makes use of Mark
- Jesus concerned for the poor and outcasts
- Matthew
- Written for a Jewish audience
- Shows Jesus as the Jewish Messiah
- Focuses on Jesus as a teacher within
Judaism
3. Why Did We Choose It?
We chose this passage because

- It is an important story to show how people felt about Jesus during his time and what
he was specifically doing while he was teaching in different places
- The story shows several points of view of who would have been there to witness what
was happening
- Since Mark, Matthew, and Luke make use of this story, we were able to pull
information and inspiration from all three books
4. What Is Our Creative Element?
-News Show
-Creation of “Channel 7” News Station
- Newscaster reports on a local story occurring in the town of Capernaum
-Within the show, newscaster is interviewing witnesses who saw the
miracle that Jesus had performed.
-Within the show, the Newscaster interviews
-People in the crowd
-The Homeowner
-A Disciple of Jesus
-A Pharisee
-A friend of the Paralyzed Man
-The Paralyzed Man
-Included in the show is also a more in depth interview with the Paralyzed
Man and what he might have thought about what happened
4. What Is Our Creative Element?
(Cont.)
- A news story seemed like the perfect way to capture this event with
the reporting and all of the interviews
- We thought it would be interesting to expand on the story more,
such as how the paralytic man would feel after and how the
aftermath of the events that unfolded would have affected different
people involved in the scene
- We used quotes from the Bible, and we made our own characters by
thinking of what they might’ve thought and said about this event.

03 Conclusion
1. What Did We Try to Accomplish?

. Modern twist to the biblical story taking in consideration the

perspectives that the Bible never mentioned while still capturing
the feelings of those mentioned in the Bible.
- Examples mentioned in the Bible:
. words of Jesus
. The angry Pharisees
- Modern twists:
. Random person from the crowd and how we think they may
have reacted
. owner of the house…was he angry about his broken roof?
. how did the paralyzed man react
2. Why a News Report?
- Story of the healing and the forgiving of the paralyzed man was
shocking in its time as the miracles of Jesus either impressed
many or enraged others and His forgiveness of sins was a hot
topic
→ it was what we would call today breaking news
→ if platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok
existed back then, this would be a trending story
- News report and interviews seemed best fitting to tell the story
from different eyes and different point of views, because there
were various thoughts and feelings about this event
→ emphasis not on the ministry of Jesus but rather how people
felt about Him as well as His works and teachings
3. Takeaways
- Understanding that there were a lot of discrepancies
between the people around Jesus about His teachings
and works
- Understand that this was a major event and sparked a
lot of attention towards Jesus which the high priests did
not like
→ this was part of the buildup of hate towards Jesus
which later led to His arrest and crucifixion
- The Christian church believes that the forgiveness of
sins comes only from God, as the writers of the gospels
narrate Jesus’ forgiving of sins of the paralyzed man,
they confirm the belief that He is God
→ The Trinity is the core of the Christian church
3. Takeaways (Cont.)
Throughout this story we see Jesus as:
- Son of God
- Savior
- Miracle worker (paralyzed man)
- Blasphemer (high priests and the pharisees)
- Forgiver (the sinners)
- Caring for the poor and outcast (the diverse crowd)
- Teacher/Rabbi (disciples & followers)
The End.
