China’s new year resolution seems to bring many more surprises to the world.

President Xi
soon after assigning one of his wolf warrior Qin Gang as the new foreign minister, he has given
a horizontal shift to another warrior.

Zhao Lijian, a former spokesperson from the ministry of China, has now been designated as the
2nd ranked officer in the border affairs department. A figure well known for his furious
speeches and comments, is the first Chinese diplomat to have his foot on social media with
crazy number of followers on twitter and other platforms.

He is the flag bearer of China’s wolf warrior diplomacy, which has evolved over the years and
has brought China on fronts from its earlier “keeping a low profile” strategy of Deng Xiaoping.
He is a key diplomat serving his country since 1996, with an expertise in Asian Affairs. He had
been posted twice in the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, and as well has served in Chinese
Embassy in United States.

The reassigning of Mr. Zhao underlines shifts in China’s wolf warrior diplomacy from being
more confronting to becoming more diplomatic after years of deadlock, by mending its
approach towards the world.

Mr. Zhao as a spokesperson has kept China many a times on conflicting edge with the western
associates. The toughest voice of China was once referred as the ‘racist disgrace’ by former
secretary advisor of US, Susan Rice, as well has been a matter of criticism by Australia. Though
as a diplomat he has never failed any opportunity in counter balancing its country’s stand even
once, be it be any harsh allegations against China.

With Qin Gang taking the charge, this development reflects a lot about how vigorously China is
looking forward to improve its ties with US and to some extent its allies. Tracing the recent
meet in November of US President Joseph R. Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bali,
Indonesia, the both leaders have freely spoken on different matters of concerns and priorities.

As well, Foreign Minister Qin Gang has praised it’s US counterparts with high hopes of
becoming a great powers in cooperation with eachother, showing great sign of mutual
development and prosperity.

Mr. Zhao who has often praised China’s great alignment with Pakistan in bilateral terms, to the
contrary have seemed to maintain a stand on India’s behalf, as he conveyed, that, the western
world should no longer describe the world from the lens of colonists.

With Mr. Zhao taking the new post, he will closely be dealing with India on its border issues
regarding LAC with China. Even with the image of wolf warrior, Zhao over past years have
readily supported India – China bilateral ties, with the say to keep it at advantageous front
even in the times of crisis.
