Introduction

The goal of this course is to build upon what graduate students have learnt in Statistical
Methods-I. This among other topics will include linear modelling and multivariate
statistics. Students will get hands-on experience applying the topics covered to real
datasets using R.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
 Demonstrate their understanding of descriptive statistics by practical application of
quantitative reasoning and data visualization
 Demonstrate their knowledge of the basics of inferential statistics by making valid
generalizations from sample data
 Understand how to use various forms of the general linear model
Learning Outcomes
 Recognize pitfalls in using statistical methodology
 Model building from theory and data

1
 Decision Making with data and information
 Interpret the results from multivariate data analyses
Pedagogy

The pedagogy would be a mix of Lectures, Discussions, Group exercises in class,

Assignments and Quizzes. Honest and Non-Plagiarized submissions for assignments and
quizzes will be appreciated. Any form of dishonesty, cheating, plagiarism will be
penalized heavily and it may lead to award of 0 marks, repetition of course or any other
disciplinary action as deemed right by the institution. Participants are expected to read the
prescribed readings/book chapter, summarize and critique the readings and try to identify
the linkage between the prescribed readings for the session and those covered earlier
before coming to attend the session.

Evaluation Schema:
