The standard operating procedure involves:
1) Visual inspections and checks of the circuit breaker components before shutdown to identify any issues.
2) After shutdown, thorough cleaning and inspections of both fixed and moving internal contacts and components for wear, damage, or misalignment.
3) Electrical tests including insulation resistance and contact resistance tests to verify proper functioning.

STANDARD OPEARTING PROCEDURE FOR MAINTENANCE OF CIRCUIT
BREAKER - LOW TENSION (LT) CIRCUIT BREAKER.
A: Observations prior to shut down
- Visual inspections for any damages / missing parts if any. (External) - Position of ACB: Service / test, Spring charging & Mechanical ON /OFF indication. Functionality checks of all indicating lamps, push buttons and micrologic. B: Post shut down activities: - Carry out Earth discharge. - Racking out the Circuit breaker. - Inspect moving and stationary contacts for condition, wear, and alignment. - Visual inspections for any damages for fixed and moving contact. - Cleaning thoroughly all moving and fixed components. - Inspect for loose, broken, worn, or missing parts. (Internal) - Cleaning mechanism and current carrying components, insulating components with cleaning agent & dry cloth. - Cleaning of dust, spider web, foreign particles etc. of all equipment’s which includes Horizontal Bus, Vertical Bus, and Auxiliary & Feeder bus with cleaning agent. - Inspect for signs of overheating on current carrying & insulating components (Contact Jaws, Cradle Terminals & Terminal support or any physical damage. - Ensure that all contacts are clean, smooth, and in proper alignment. - Lubrication of all mobile joints. - Tightness check of all joints in Circuit breaker. - Check for mechanical operations. - Operational check for ON/OFF & Trip on Insertion in Service position.
