1.Statement:
A/ Reported statements
say(s)/said
S + + (that) + S + V (Có thể bỏ “that”) đổi thì của động từ lùi về quá khứ 1

Eg: a) “I am (not) a plumber,” he said. R.P : He said (that) he was (not) a plumber.
b) “I can fix the faucet, ” he said. R.P: He said (that) he could fix the faucet.
c) “I work/ don’t work 8 hours a day,” he said. R.P He said (that) he worked/ didn’t work 8 hours a day.
2.Reported questions
1.Yes-No questions (Câu hỏi Có-Không: bắt đầu bằng trợ động từ do, does, can, is, are, did, was…)
asked (sb)
S + wondered + if/whether + S + V (động từ không còn đứng trước chủ ngữ)
wanted to know đổi thì của động từ lùi về quá khứ 1 thì
a) “Is My Son in Quang Nam,?” R.P : He asked me if/whether My Son was in Quang Nam.
b) “Do many people visit My Son?” R.P: He asked me if/whether many people visited My Son.
2.Wh- questions (Câu hỏi có từ để hỏi: what, where, how, how many, how often...)
asked (sb)
S + wondered + what/when/how... + S + V (động từ không còn đứng trước chủ
ngữ)
wanted to know đổi thì của động từ lùi về quá khứ 1 thì
a) “Where is My Son?” He asked me where My Son was .
b) “How often do you visit Hoi An?” He asked me how often I visited Hoi An.
3. Dạng câu đề nghị, yêu cầu, khuyên ngăn:
S + asked/told/advised + O + to V-inf
II .REPORTED QUESTIONS WITH QUESTION WORDS BEFORE TO-INF:
*Questions before to- infinitive: difficult/ uncertain situation.
(Tường thuật câu hỏi với các từ để hỏi đứng trước to-inf)
- Dạng tường thuật này thường đi kèm với các động từ: ASK, WONDER, (NOT) BE SURE, HAVE NO
IDEA (KHÔNG BIẾT), (NOT) KNOW, (NOT) DECIDE, (NOT) TELL.
• WH-QUESTIONS: S + Verb (ask, wonder,..) + (O) + Wh-question + to-inf
Note : WHY không thể đi kèm với to-inf
Ex: “What should I do” she said - She wondered what to do.

We don’t know who we should contact - We don’t know who to contact
I have no idea where I can get this information - I have no idea where to get this information
• YES-NO QUESTIONS: S + verb (ask, wonder,..) + (O) + WHETHER + To-inf
* Dạng này không thể dùng với IF
Ex: “Should I tell my parents what I really think?” She wondered
She wondered whether to tell her parents what she really thought.
III. Degrees of comparisons:
Equal degree
(So sánh bằng) S1 + V (phủ định) + as/so + adj/adv + as + S2 + aux

S1 + be/ V + as + adj / adv + as + S2 + aux (trợ E.g: He is not as/so old as my father.

He doesn’t drive as/so carefully as I (do).
Comparatives
(So sánh hơn)
S1 + be/ V + adj/ adv (short) + er + than + S2 + S1 + be/V + more + adj/ adv (long) +

E.g: You are thinner than he (is). E.g: He is more intelligent than I (am).

Superlatives
(So sánh nhất)
S + be/ V + the most + adj/ adv(long) + (noun +
S + be/V + the + adj/ adv (short) + est + (noun + in/of …..) E.g: He is the most intelligent student in

E.g: Nam is the tallest student in my class. Of the students in my class, Nam speaks English

Note: 1/ Chúng ta sử dụng hình thức so sánh bằng khi muốn nhấn mạnh vật này/ người này hơn vật kia người
kia gấp bao nhiêu lần.
S + be + twice/three times/ four times/ …. + as + adj + as + noun/ pronoun + aux
E.g: Her husband is twice as old as she (is).
S + verb + twice/three times/ four times/ …. + as + much/many +(noun) + as + noun/ pronoun + aux
E.g: I earn three times as much money as he (does).
2/ Chúng ta cũng có thể sử dụng những từ nhấn mạnh như: much, a lot, far, slightly, a bit, no, any, ...
trước các hình thức so sánh hơn
E.g: Her husband is much/ far/ a lot/... older than her. (Chồng cô ấy lớn tuổi hơn cô ấy nhiều)
We feel a bit/ a little/ slightly tired after the trip. (Chúng tôi cảm thấy hơi mệt sau chuyến đi)
3/ Ta có thể sử dụng the second, the third,… trước hình thức so sánh nhất để thể hiện thứ bậc
E.g: Osaka is the second largest city in Japan. (Osaka là thành phố lớn thứ hai ở Nhật Bản)
4/ Ta cũng có thể dùng by far (hơn nhiều, hơn hẳn) để nhấn mạnh so sánh nhất
E.g: Army is by far the smartest. (Army thông minh nhất, hơn mọi người nhiều)
IV.Phrasal verbs: Ss list and learn by heart all phrasal verbs.
- go on: continue - turn back/ come back: return
- get on: make progress - close down: stop doing sth
- think over: consider - get on with: have a friendly relationship with
- apply for: ask for somebody
-cheer up: make SO feel happy - face up to: accept, deal with
- get over: recover - deal with: take action to solve a problem
- turn down: refuse - live on: have enough money to live

V. Complex sentences:
a. Dependent Clause of Purpose (DP): S + V, + so that / in order that + Clause (S + V) (để mà)
(Mệnh đề phụ chỉ mục đích)
ex1: I study hard so that/ in order that I can pass the exam.
* Phrase of purpose: (cụm từ chỉ mục đích)
S + V + in order (not) to + V(inf.) để mà../ để không..
so as (not) to

b. Dependent clause of concession (DC) (mệnh đề phụ chỉ sự tương phản)
Form: S +V + although/ though/ even though + clause (S + V) (mặc dù/ cho dù)
* Phrase of concession: (cụm từ tương phản)
S + V + despite Noun phrase (the + adj + N)/ (her, his, my + N)
in spite of (not) + V-ing

Ex: Although he is so young, he plays the piano well.


Despite/ In spite of being so young, he plays the piano well.
c. Dependent clause of reason (DR): (mệnh đề phụ chỉ lí do)
Form: S + V, because/ as/ since + clause (S+V) (bởi vì)

* Phrase of reason: S + V, because of (not) + V-ing


Noun phrase ( the + adj + N)/ (his, her, my +N)
Eg: We couldn’t go camping because the weather was bad.
=> We couldn’t go camping because of the bad weather.
d. Dependent clause of time (DT): (mệnh đề phụ chỉ thời gian)
Form: S + V, + when/ as soon as/before /after /while + clause (S+V) , (Sau After S+ had + Vp.p, S +V2/ed,
When I arrive, I will send you a postcard)
