    The Child Pugh score is used to assess the severity of chronic liver disease and prognosis of hepatic encephalopathy. It assigns a score of 1 to 3 points for each of 5 clinical measures (ascites, albumin, bilirubin, encephalopathy, prothrombin time/INR), with higher scores indicating more severe disease. The total score can then be used to determine if and how much a medication dose should be adjusted for patients with liver impairment.
