 Population of Maharashtra
Maharashtra is the second most populous State of India. In the past
decade, Maharashtra has added more than 1.5 Crore people to its
population at a Growth Rate of 16%, that contributes 9.29% of
population to the country’s population. Data population of
Maharashtra for previous decades, namely 2001, 2011, 2021 is given
as follows:-

 Religions of Maharashtra
Maharashtra possesses six major religions of the world, namely: -
Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Sikhism.
According to 2011 census, Hinduism was the main religion of the
state with 79.83% of population while Islam constituted 11.54% of
population only. Buddhism accounted for 5.81% in Maharashtra’s
population with 6.53 million followers. Jains, Sikhs, and Christians
constitutes 1.25%, 0.2% and 0.96% respectively, as in the table
below:-

 Literacy Rate of Maharashtra


Maharashtra is one of the most economically advanced states of
India. It has an IIT Bombay and University of Mumbai. It also has an
approx of 84,000 schools, it is home to 45 universities with 1 central,
23 state and 21 deemed. According to the stats of 2011 census,
Maharashtra has a literacy rate of 82.34% with 88.38% men and
75.87% female.

 Languages of Maharashtra
The main language of Maharashtra is Marathi, but still some people
from different areas who have settled there speak different languages.

 Climate of Maharashtra
Maharashtra has a tropical climate with three seasons, namely;
summer (March-May), monsoon (June-Sept), winter (Oct- Feb).
Summer is extremely hot with a minimum temperature of 22 degree
Celsius to 43 degree Celsius. During rainfall some districts receive up to
200cm rainfall, but some receive only 40cm annually. Below is the
average high and low temperature in degree Celsius and average
rainfall in mm of Mumbai in the form of a table:-
