The Promised Messiah & Mahdi as
About the
Promised Messiah
Please note that, in the translation that follows, words given in paren-
theses ( ) are the words of the author. If any explanatory words or
phrases are added by the translators for the purpose of clarification,
they are put in square brackets [ ]. Footnotes given by the publisher
are marked ‘[Publisher]’.
References to the Holy Quran contain the name of the surah [i.e.
chapter] followed by a chapter:verse citation, e.g. Surah al-Jumu‘ah,
62:4, and count Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim [‘In the name of
Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful’] as the first verse in every chapter
that begins with it.
Readers are urged to recite the full salutations when reading the book.
In general, we have adopted the following system established by
the Royal Asiatic Society for our transliteration.
_____
a for َِ
_____
(like u in bud).
i for (like i in bid).
_____
u for ُ (like oo in wood).
a for
i for ی __
ِٰ
_____
_ __ ٖ
or ( آlike a in father).
or _____ (like ee in deep).
u for ( _____ وlike oo in root).
ُ
Other vowels by:
_____
ai for ی
_____ َ
(like i in site).
au for و َ
(resembling ou in sound).
The consonants not included in the above list have the same phonetic
value as in the principal languages of Europe. While the Arabic ن
is represented by n , we have indicated the Urdu ںas ń . As noted
above, the single quotation mark ‘ is used for transliterating عwhich
is distinct from the apostrophe ’ used for ء.
xii Selected Persian Poems of the Promised Messiahas
His poems are a testimony to his heartfelt efforts to convey his mes-
sage in any way that would make people understand.
The universal theme in his poetry is the absolute perfection of
the Oneness of Allah, the magnificent status of the Holy Prophet
Muhammad sas, and the grandeur of the Holy Quran—the final scrip-
ture revealed by Allah the Exalted—and the superiority of Islam over
all other faiths. These poems are often recited in the meetings and
ceremonies of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
