Determine what is being asked in the problem. SHOW YOUR SOLUTIONS.

1. Water flows through a 3 inches diameter pipe at a velocity of 9 ft/s. Determine:

a) discharge in liters per second

b) mass flow rate in slug per second
c) weight flow rate in pound per second

2. An air has a density of 1.24 kg/m3 flows in a pipe with a diameter of 30 cm at a mass flow
rate 3 kg/s. What is the velocity and discharge in the pipe?

3.Water flows through a circular pipe with a radius of 4 cm at a rate of 5 m/s.

a) if the radius of the pipe increases to 8 cm, what is the new velocity?
b) calculate the discharge in the pipe
c) calculate the mass flow rate

4. A gas flows through a square conduit. At one point along the conduit, the conduit sides
are 0.10 m, the velocity is 7.55 m/s and the gas's density is 1.09 kg/m3. At second point,
the conduit sides are 0.25 m, and the velocity is 2.02 m/s. Find the density at the second
point.

5. 3. A 12 inches diameter pipe conveying water branches into two pipes of diameter 8
inches and 4 inches respectively. If the average velocities in the 12 inches diameter pipe
and 8 inches diameter pipe are 9 ft/s and 6.5 ft/s, respectively, determine the velocity in
the 4 inches diameter pipe.
