The superintendent should serve as the lead learner of the district, modeling the importance of

growth and advancing the knowledge and skills of the team - all in pursuit of maximum student
achievement and success. My commitment to learning is evident through my engagement in
multiple professional learning experiences, including pursuing a Doctoral Degree from Michigan
State University. Through my experiences and education, I understand our educational system's
complex challenges locally and beyond. I know how to cultivate, motivate, and lead
organizational change and innovation through change theory, research, implementation science,
and practical application of continuous improvement practices. From leading district equity
initiatives, to supporting academic learning recovery and social emotional wellbeing, to
spearheading curriculum and program enhancements and state compliance efforts, I have
demonstrated my commitment to utilizing evidence-based practices to advance educational
equity and excellence for all students.

Throughout my work, I aspire to embody the attributes of the IB learner profile, including being
principled, caring, a thinker, open-minded, and reflective. These qualities, knowledge and
experiences, and deep care for students, staff, and families guide my decision-making process
and inspire me to do my best work. My skills as a critical systems thinker and asset-based
solutions developer allow me to ensure Midland Public Schools remains responsive to the
evolving needs of our diverse student body and community. Being an educational leader is
critical, as is being an organizational leader. Our district is a thriving enterprise with over 850
employees working hard to meet student needs. Leadership of finance, facilities, general
operations, and human resources are all critical to our shared success. With the complexity of
our organization, no single person can hold all the expertise needed for maximum success.
Developing a trusting, connected, and knowledgeable team that keeps students centered is
imperative, and working collaboratively with department directors, principals, and the associate
superintendent team provides depth and strength in leadership and decision-making. Our
district has critical opportunities ahead, given our need to recruit, retain, and support
exceptional staff, modernize and improve our facilities, ensure strong financial stewardship, and
increase student growth, achievement, and wellbeing. With my collaborative approach to
leadership and strong sense of responsibility for outcomes, we are well-equipped to successfully
step into the opportunities ahead.

Drawing upon 16 years of dedicated service to Midland Public Schools, I have consistently
demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our district and community. My comprehensive
skill set, depth of knowledge, personal attributes, continuous pursuit of learning, unwavering
passion, and steadfast dedication to the growth and well-being of our students and staff are
intricately aligned with the leadership profile and qualifications required for advancing our
district. I am firmly devoted to our shared vision and the ultimate goal of student achievement
and success. With humility and confidence, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to further
contribute to our success and guide us toward unparalleled excellence.

Sincerely,

P Miller-Nelson
