What is Auditory Oral
Communication?

S The auditory oral approach teaches infants and young


children to use hearing and speech to develop spoken
language for communication and learning.
S The auditory oral approach makes use of hearing aids
and/or cochlear implants along with residual hearing.
S Natural gestures that are used in typical conversation
are included in the auditory oral approach; however,
signs are not used.

form the first step toward
the development of speech
and spoken language.
