ABSTRACT

Title : Effectiveness of Parental Motivation in Determining Academic

Performance of Grade 6 Learners Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

This study aims to determine the Effectiveness of Parental Motivation in

Determining Academic Performance of Grade 6 Learners Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic.

The researcher used the descriptive method, which was applicable in the study since the

researchers describe the effects of parental motivation on academic performance of grade

6 learners in terms of knowledge development, skills enhancement and attitude towards

schooling. The researchers used survey questionnaires that were distributed to the 72

grade 6 learners. Majority of the respondents are female with the frequency of 40 or

55.6%. 86-90 are the most general average of the learners before and during the
pandemic, before it is 40.3%, and during the pandemic it is 48.6%. In the mean

interpretation, knowledge development has general weighted mean of 3.51 or “Strongly

Agree”, academic skills enhancement has general weighted mean of 3.50 or “Strongly

Agree”, and attitude toward schooling has general weighted mean of 3.53 or “Strongly

Agree”. Meanwhile, problems encountered has general weighted mean of 2.11 or

“Disagree”. Therefore, majority of the respondents are female, the general average is

higher during the pandemic, parental motivation is effective in determining academic

performance of grade 6 learners amidst COVID-19 pandemic, and there is no problems

encountered with. That is why, sex must not be hindrance in giving parental motivation,

parents must give motivation to their children, and children must appreciatively perceive

it, also, there must be a seminar workshop to to maintain the parental motivation.
