CFA - Water in Traxon gearbox ECU - Rework instructions

Fault Description:
This checklist is designed for a rework on a specified series of vehicles and must only be carried out if the relevant
active alert is present.

Cause:
Water in Traxon gearbox ECU (Electronic Control Unit).

Solution:

1. This procedure is necessary to investigate the water ingress under Traxon gearbox ECU/cover and define the
rework instructions.

2. Note: Before proceeding with the control unit disassembly procedure, make sure you parked the vehicle in an
area where it can stay for a long time.

If the vehicle under investigation is a tractor, please use these steps to reach the Traxon gearbox ECU. For
cabinat/chassis for bodybuilder version, if necessary use workshop manual to reach the Traxon gearbox ECU.

Disconnect the negative pole 1 of the batteries.
.

Unscrew the screws 1 and remove the floor plate 2.
.

Act on the retainer 1 and disconnect the control unit connector; act on the retainer 2 and disconnect the second
connector of the control unit.

Unscrew the screw 1 of the cover/control unit 2.

Insert the two guiding pins 1, M8 (length approx. 100 mm) to avoid damaging the flexible electrical wiring of the
control unit. Remove the gasket (2) and the breather (1) and the guide pins (3) if necessary.

Attention: take care to the gasket. If the gasket PN 42575285 (Part Number) is not available in Spare Parts and
the original gasket is not damaged, you can reuse the same when mount the Traxon gearbox ECU.

Check if there is water or not in the not fuctional (box A) or functional area (all areas in which are present electronic
components, see also the attached video) under the gearbox cover.

- No water found (no action needed).
- Water found in not functional area only.
- Water found in functional area. - Selected by the user

3. Contact the ZF service. Open following URL link:

Detail your filter only on "Truck".

ZF service is necessary to detect and solve the issue. If ZF local service is not available, please open a THD
ASiST.

4. Dry the water in not functional area.

Note: take care to not move the water in functional area.

5. Fit a new gasket or the original one, if the new one is not available in Spare Parts and the old one is not damaged.
Screw in the centring pins M8 1.

Position the gearbox control unit 3 using the cen-tering pins. Screw the screw M8 X 55 1 by hand, remove the
centering pins. Screw the screw M8X35 2 by hand. Tighten the screws 1 and 2 to specified torque.

Attention: correctly position the plate of the gearbox wiring under the screw, i.e. between the screw and the cover.

Connect connector 1 and 2 and lock the appropriate retainer.

Position the footboard 2 and screws the screws 1.

Connect the negative pole 1 of the battery.
