How to use the
Maths Plan
The Maths Plan is designed to take all the guesswork out of your
revision so you can focus on revising and know that you are
working effectively.

The Maths Plan is organised

into 3 key phases.

Work your way through the Phases

using the Step by Step guides.

After a Study Session make sure

that you have completed all the
tasks in the Study Session Checklist
for the Phase that you are in!

Phase 1: Study Session Checklist :
Watch Topic Videos & Create
Content Engagement Evidence
Absorption Answer Topic Questions
Make Flashcards

Details: Go through the topics in your textbook

chronologically. Phase One will be complete when you
have gone through every topic in the course!

Study Session Schedule :

Step One: Watch Topic Videos, Read Textbook & Make Notes
Take notes from your textbook and the video to keep you
engaged. Make sure you write down your own calculations from
any example questions. You need to watch the videos ACTIVELY
not PASSIVELY.
Step Two: Answer Topic Questions
Answer questions relating to the topic you learnt about in Step
One. If you cannot immediately do a question refer back to your
notes, the video and the mark scheme for help. Answer 15
questions.
5 short questions, 5 Long Questions, 5 Word Problems

Step Three: Make Flashcards

Make Flashcards for formulas/identities. Have a set of flashcards
for each type of exam. You do not need to start memorising your
flashcards yet.

Phase 2: Study Session Checklist :
Levelling Exam Questions
Revise Flashcards
Up

Details: Phase Two is the most important and hardest

phase but you can do it!

Study Session Schedule :

Step One: Open Book Exam Questions
In one session you should aim to get through half an exam paper.
How to Approach Open Book Exam Questions:
1. Try to answer the question without any extra resources.
2. If you cannot answer the question without extra resources look
through your notes & flashcards for help.
3. If you still cannot answer the question have a look at the
solutions.
How to Learn from Exam Solutions:
When looking at the method in the mark scheme make sure to
implement the Medium Conversion Maths Method (write full
sentences) to detail how one step leads to the next line of
working.
If you are still struggling revisit Phase One for the topic in the
question. Some questions contain multiple topics so you may
need to revisit Phase One for more than one topic in order to
do a question.
Step Two: Hyperfocused Flashcard Revision
Go over one set of Flashcards (which you made in Phase One) and
actively try to memorise the formulas/identities. This is different to
Low Maintenance Revision.
Phase 2/3: Implement
LM Low Maintenance
Revision Revision

Details: Low Maintenance Revision should occur

during Phase 2 and Phase 3.

Low Maintenance Revision:

Low Maintenance Revision involves
revising your flashcards before bed
or at a time when you are slightly
unfocused.

By absorbing information when

you are unfocused, you will get
information into your resting brain.

Having information in your resting

brain is essential for quick recall.

Make sure to rotate between your

different sets of flashcards.
Phase 3: Study Session Checklist :
Exam Revise Exam Log
Self-Imposed Mock Exams
Prep Exam Log

Details: Make sure to fill out the Tracking Sheets &

Grade Progression Table so you can see progress.

Study Session Schedule :

Step One: Revise Exam Log
Spend 15 minutes reading your Exam Log out loud. Auditory
stimuli helps you absorb information deeper. After 15 minutes
make a note of where you read up to. In your next session you will
start reading where you left off.

Step Two: Self-Imposed Mock Exams

Recreate exam conditions. Set a strict time limit, clear your desk
and lay out your stationery and bottle of water. Do as much of the
paper as you can in the given time limit. If you run out of time
continue working on the paper in a different colour pen.

Step Three: Exam Log

Take notes on the questions you got wrong to create an Exam Log!

If you have the Raystar Study Exam

Log Worksheets then you can fill them
out to create your Exam Log!
