Proposal Outline:

I. Introduction
A. Hook: All across America, people are struggling with safety in their
neighborhoods. One of these issues is speeding in neighborhoods. It causes panic
and disorder to the community and we need to look for ways to reduce this
problem.
B. Thesis: One problem in the community is speeding in neighborhoods; therefore,
Residents who live in the neighborhood. should look for ways to slow down the
speeders. The main risk of this proposal is to reduce speeding in the
neighborhoods may cause drivers to drive more dangerously, but the solution will
be effective because if the methods of slowing down speeding works the
neighborhood would be considered more safe, children would able to safely play
outside, and less damage and accidents would occur.
II. Problem: speeding in neighborhoods
A. Main Cause(s): The main cause of this problem is that drivers are distracted or
are in a rush to get home.
1. Evidence: When drivers are coming or going home they may be in a
rush to get to where they are going, so they speed or avoid obstacles to
slow them down.
a) Annotation: This source talks about ways to reduce
B. Effects of Problem: When you speed in a neighborhood you are chancing hitting
something or someone. Driving fast in unsafe zones are bound for consequences.
Kids are more likely to be playing outside or neighbors are walking. So when you
speed you are increasing your chance of hitting someone or something.
1. Evidence: Chris Giarratana. January 11, 2020. How can I slow down
traffic in my neighborhood?.
https://www.trafficsafetystore.com/blog/how-can-i-slow-down-traffic-
in-my-neighborhood-use-these-4-tips/
a) Annotation: This source gives you information about ways you
can slow down traffic in neighborhoods.
III. Solution: look for ways to slow down the speeders
A. How Solution Would Work: I would first start by adding speed humps in the
road to help slow down cars. Also, by putting up signs that shows drivers speed
next to the speed limit signs will help decrease speeding.
1. Evidence: Transline. March 15, 2021. How to stop speeding in your
neighborhood.. https://translineinc.com/how-to-stop-speeding-in-your-
neighborhood-2021-update/
a) Annotation: This source shows how to adequately stop speeding
in your neighborhood.
3

B. Costs and Resources: It would cost money to enforce these rules and obstacles in
neighborhoods. Neighbors can go around and get a petition started to enforce a
more safer way to drive in the community.
1. Evidence: You can reach out to your communities government office
for funding and raise money for prevention strategies.
a) Annotation: The information provided from the source talks about
a prevention strategy from community crime.
IV. Risk
A. Opposing Viewpoint: Some people may try and go around the placed obstacles
to reduce speeding and may actually cause more harm or damage to property or
people by doing so.
1. Evidence: Rosetta Brown. July 23, 2021. Stop speeding in your
neighborhood. https://www.thetelegraph.com/insider/article/Stop-
speeding-in-your-neighborhood-16335149.php
a) Annotation: This source is one woman's point of view of how to
stop speeding in neighborhoods.
B. Your Response to Opposing Viewpoint: I would suggest that even though some
people will try and go around these obstacles, it is still good to have them in place
because overall they will reduce speeding.
1. Evidence: Do Duy DinhHisashi Kubota. 2013. Drivers' perceptions
regarding speeding and driving on urban residential streets with a 30
km/h speed limit.
https://doaj.org/article/e173210a08dc4a3a8a2ee16daef2a748
a) Annotation: This source talks about driving restrictions in another
country. I say that all across the world people take speeding
seriously. It is good to see that other countries are similar to ours in
beliefs about speeding in neighborhoods.
V. Benefits
A. Supporting Point 1: if the methods of slowing down speeding works the
neighborhood would be considered more safe
1. Evidence: Police are parking their cars around corners in neighborhoods
to help reduce the speeding.
a) Annotation: With police doing this, it makes drivers more aware
of their surrounding and drive more cautious and safe.
B. Supporting Point 2: children would able to safely play outside
1. Evidence: Most children play outside of their homes.
a) Annotation: When you drive safely in a neighborhood, you reduce
the chance of a child getting hurt if they run out into the road in
front of you. You will be able to safely stop because you wouldn't
be going as fast and you could respond more efficiently.
C. Supporting Point 3: less damage and accidents would occur
4

1. Evidence: When you drive slower and more cautiously you reduce the
chance of accidents.
a) Annotation: When you drive at the proper speed limit posted you
can stop and be more cautious to your surroundings when driving.
VI. Conclusion
A. Restate Thesis: When driving in neighborhoods it is best to follow the speed
limit posted and be aware of your surroundings.
B. Call to Action: Have more crime prevention strategies in neighborhoods to help
establish a prevention system for speeding to ensure safety in your community.

Introduction:

What will stop people from speeding in neighborhoods? Concerned citizens and local
neighborhood communities are reaching out to find ways to reduce speeding. Police are now
getting involved in looking for ways to please the concerned citizens on this crisis. Safety and
prevention are described below on how to reduce speeding in neighborhoods. One problem in the
community is speeding in neighborhoods; therefore, Residents who live in the neighborhood.
should look for ways to slow down the speeders. The main counter argument to this proposal is
to reduce speeding in the neighborhoods may cause drivers to drive more dangerously, but the
proposed solution will be more effective because if the methods of slowing down speeding
works the neighborhood would be considered more safe, children would able to safely play
outside, and less damage and accidents would occur.

Conclusion:

The proposal has demonstrated both sides of whether reducing speeding in neighborhoods is
good for the community or not. Overall the evidence provided supports the claim to install more
measure's to slow down traffic. The arguing statement was that if you put in such measures then,
people will try to avoid the obstacles and cause more damage than speeding in general. Most
people will follow the new regulations set up and slow down in neighborhoods for the safety of
the children and community. Slowing down speeders in neighborhoods will benefit the
community in more ways than any risk.

Appealing to Your Audience:

1) Which audience appeals (logic, credibility, or emotion) have you used the most? Explain
why those appeals would help your specific audience accept one of your supporting points.
Which characteristic or value of your audience is reflected in that supporting point?

I have used logic to appeal the audience the most. I have used factual data on how to reduce the
chance of speeding in neighborhoods. The audience will accept my supporting points because
5

most people want safety and positivity in their lives. Establishing the points I've laid out give
them the chance to do so.

2) Which audience appeals (logic, credibility, or emotion) do your sources use the most?
Choose one piece of evidence and explain how your use of audience appeals helped you
determine that it would be effective. Which characteristic or value does your audience hold
that would make that evidence compelling to them?

The majority of my sources use logic the most to appeal to the audience. "People are worried that
they or their children might get hit by a car, or a dangerous vehicle collision could occur. These
are valid concerns that need to be addressed." Quoted from Rosetta Brown. She uses logic and
emotional appeal to reach the audience on why citizens are concerned about speeding in
neighborhoods.

Reflecting on Feedback:

1) Describe the feedback you received from your instructor on Assignment 1.

In my feedback from my professor on Assignment 1 I received a 94%. The professor stated that
my topic had potential to develop well and that I need to develop an explanation of my topics
importance. I was told to review my sources carefully and that I found five of my sources. I was
on topic with my summaries and I had a good understanding of my sources and they were
creditable and relevant to my topic. I had 3 to 4 errors and was advised to review my material to
have better grammar and spelling.

2) Explain how you used the feedback from Assignment 1 to help improve your writing in
Assignment 2. Describe specific changes you made based on feedback and how they
improved your work.

I used my feedback from Assignment 1 to help me overall improve my writing abilities for
Assignment 2. I took the professors advise and proved more detail into what my sources
provided. I made sure that all spelling and grammar was the best to my ability as well. In
general, from taking previous advise I think that my Assignment 2 essay will be better than the
first. I also hope to improve my grade on this Assignment as well.
