Day 1- Week3- Quarter 3
Content: Conductors of Heat and Electricity
Review: Give an example of measuring tools.
Motivation: T A E H –energy that is transferred from one body to another as the result of
a difference in temperature (HEAT)
Y T I C I R T C E L E - is the flow of electrical power or charge
(ELECTRICITY)

Discussion:
There are some materials that can transfer or conduct heat and electricity to
another material. Different materials differ in the way they conduct heat. Do you know of
materials that are good conductors of heat and electricity? Let’s find out.
Experiment:
I have here the materials that we need.
Materials: hot water, metal spoon, pencil, glass

What to do:
1. Put water in a cup
2. Simultaneously soak metal spoon in the first cup and the pencil in the second
cup. Leave for one minute.
3. Touch the end part of the metal spoon and pencil.
Question:
1. What have you noticed when you touch the end part of the metal spoon? End
part of the pencil? Why?
-the metal spoon becomes hot and the pencil does not become hot.
Question:
1. Which material is a good conductor of heat? -metal make a good conductor of
heat because of their electronic properties.
2. Which material is an insulator of heat? Why? -among the two materials pencil is
the insulator of heat. It is an insulator because it does not allow heat to pass or
flow through them.
