Leadership Exercise.

Instruction : Watch the Film and Answer the Following Questions.

Question based on film Crimson Tide 1995.

1. Describe the characteristic or traits of Captain Ramsey and Lieutenant Hunter based
on your own interpretation.

Answer: Captain Ramsey is the perfect example of an authoritative military commander.


Among his characteristics are his dedication to duty, loyalty to a straight chain of
command, and his reliance on standard military command principles. Ramsey is being a
dominant presence on board the submarine due to his ethics and resiliency.

Lieutenant Commander Hunter views leadership with an intelligent and modern


approach. Hunter has a special educational background and supports open discussion
and interaction. He issues with moral problems and has an awareness of responsibilities
that causes him to question orders that might have devastating effects.

2. Do you think both of leaders are effective leader? Justify why?

Answer: Yes. Lieutenant Commander Hunter's modern and flexible leadership, defined
by freedom to different points of view and moral decisions, proves effective in
challenging circumstances. Captain Ramsey's traditional and authoritative method,
defined by determination and years of experience, teaches order and discipline among
the crew.
3. Based on the film, explain the sources of power that been use by Captain Ramsey.

Answer: Answer: He uses threat of disciplinary action to enforce military discipline,


which is a clear example of his use of forced authority. Ramsey has informational power
since he has access to important information, but he also has power to reward as he
manages the submarine's assets and advantages.

4. On your own opinion, why leaders need a follower?

Answer: To be able to achieve common objective, support, different points of view,


shared skills, teamwork, responsibility, creativity, and cooperation, leaders require
followers.
