Session Details
Session Objectives General Objective: Improve/Enhance the learners’
reading performance
At the end of the session, learners will be able to:
a) Read the short story entitled “The Necklace” by Guy
De Maupassant.
b) Annotate the short story for a deeper understanding.
c) Note important details from the story.
d) Appreciate the value of viewing

Facilitation Strategies
A. Components Activities and Procedures
Sing Along Challenge
• Ask students if they are familiar with the song, “We Are
the World” by Michael Jackson.
• Ask a student to be the song leader.
Before Reading
• Have the class sing along to the original version of the
song.
• Ask students to pick the most striking lines and they will
tell why they choose those lines.
Reading Proper
• Introduce the reading selection and present the
author’s background.
During Reading
• Learners read silently the short story with a partner or a
reading buddy. Independent readers will be paired up
with students who find difficulty in reading.

• While they are reading, they will draw illustrated
annotation to unlock the unfamiliar words and take
important details and concepts taken from the text.
Use the following annotation strategies:
1. Circle any unfamiliar words, then look for their
meanings and write down the definitions.
2. Use question marks to indicate areas of uncertainty
3. Use stars to indicate anything that seems important
such as theme, symbols, etc.
4. Underline important concepts/insights
