Singing/Music Therapy
Introduction
Music therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses music to help people with a wide
range of mental health issues. It is a professional health ally in which music is used within a
therapeutic relationship to address the physical needs, psychological and social needs of
individuals. It is a goal-oriented intervention, which may involve making music, singing, writing,
listening, discussing, and dancing to music. The goals of music therapy are from the alleviation
of psychological stress, discomfort, anxiety, and social isolation to the modulation of mood and
behavior modification.
Objective
This therapy aims to encourage the client to express her feelings and emotions through
music and songs that the client can relate in to.
Materials
Songs
Lyrics
Cellphone
Speaker
The client will suggest the song that she wants to sing and listen. She will sing the songs
through watching the lyrics showed in the cellphone with the help of the student nurse. There
will be at least three songs played during the therapy. The three music choices will be a song,
sang by the client’s favorite artist or singer whether it is OPM or English music. The client will
listen to the music while singing and understanding what the message of the song is.
Throughout the session, the client demonstrated a remarkable engagement with the
music therapy process. She enjoyed singing with the student nurses and she loves to listen to
her favorite songs as she mentioned. The way she follows the lyrics of the songs shows that
she can read well and was able to modulate her voice whenever she sings.
