Apparatus: Switch/hub, RJ-45 connector, Twisted Pair cable, LAN tester, crimping tools.
Introduction: A star topology is a topology for a Local Area Network (LAN) in which all
nodes are individually connected to a central connection point, like a hub or a switch. A star
takes more cable than e.g. a bus, but the benefit is that if a cable fails, only one node will be
brought down.
Architecture:
Advantages:
1. Centralized management of the network, through the use of the central computer, hub,
or switch.
2. Easy to add another computer to the network.
3. If one computer on the network fails, the rest of the network continues to function
normally.
4. High performance as no data collisions can occur.
Disadvantages:
1. Power up the switch. Connect all the computers to the switch with standard network cable
(CAT-5).
2. Insert a one end of cable into NIC port of computer and another end into NIC port of
switch.
3. Put all the computers in the same workgroup.
Result: In this way we connected Computers using given topology with wired media
Conclusion: It is easy to connect Computers using given topology with wired media
