Walk to School Day: Our Eco Club in collaboration with our SAC will be holding a walk to school day on
Wednesday morning. Students are encouraged walk to ride to school this morning. The class with the
most students who participate will earn the famous “Red Shoe Trophy” to display in their class!
Thanksgiving Food Drive: We will be collecting non-perishable food items in the large wooden box in
the front foyer for our local food bank this week. All donations need to be received by 11:00 am on
Thursday. Thank you to those who can help out! Your donation goes directly to helping families in our
immediate community.
Terry Fox Run: Thank you to those who have donated online for our schools Terry Fox run/walk.
This is a last call for any donations. Our run will happen on Thursday (weather permitting) with October
11th as our rain date. Students will run/walk around the track in support of this great cause from 1:15 to
1:50 p.m. Thank you to Mr. Smith for organizing.
Orange Shirt Day: You have likely seen the display in the front school yard showcasing the work our
classes have done to de-compose the land acknowledgement that is said daily to better understand the
meaning of this. This is part of our work to learn about Truth and Reconciliation and to recognize orange
shirt day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Indigenous education and learning about
sovereignty will be continuing throughout the school year at West Rouge. Thank you to Mr. Vescio for
leading this work and to all classes for participating, particularly Ms. Kelleher’s class who made a lot of
the banners for other classes.
