DAY 1 and DAY 2
I.Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to :
1. define reflection of light
2. define refraction of light
3. describe how light is reflected
II. Subject Matter:

Title: Reflection and Refraction of Light

Reference: SCIENCE AND HEALTH 4 MELC-BASED

Materials : powerpoint , videos

III.Learning Tasks:
A. Preparatory Activity
- Prayers
- Greetings
- Checking of attendance
- Energizer
B. Review:

Rainbows can be observed whenever there are rain drops in the air and sunlight
shining from behind. How does light travel in this scenario and why do we see
different colors forming a rainbow?

Lesson Proper:
What can you say about the picture?
What is seen in the water?
What made him see his image in the water?
Characteristics of Light
Light travels in a straight line and in all directions. When light strikes an object, it
can be transmitted, absorbed, reflected, or refracted.
What Happens when Light is Reflected?

The bouncing back of

light is called
reflection. In Activity
1 picture A, light is
compared to a
bouncing ball that
hits a certain object.
When a ball bounced
on a smooth wall it
will bounce back to
you. The same thing
with light. When light
hits materials with shiny and smooth surfaces, it can produce reflection. In Picture B,
the boy can clearly see himself in the mirror because the light has been reflected to
him and then from the
mirror. The images
seen on smooth, shiny
and even surfaces
produce regular
reflection. Still water,
glass windows, shiny
metal and mirrors
yield regular reflection.
Rough and uneven
surfaces produce irregular reflection. This is a kind of reflection that cannot form clear
images. Clear but moving water produces irregular reflection.
When you raise your right hand in front of a mirror it appears to be your left hand
because the image in front of the mirror is reflected backward, retracing the path it
traveled to get there. Also, mirrors don't reverse things left to right.
What Happens when Light is Refracted
The pencil looked differently in each glass. The
pencil in waterless glass appeared the same. The
pencil soaked in water looked bigger. It seemed
its soaked part is broken. This is refraction.
Refraction is the bending of light. Light bends as
it passes through various substances. Refraction
is shown in lens and eyeglass. It is even shown
using a magnifying glass. Objects look larger or
smaller through them.
IV.Evaluation:
DAY 3 and DAY 4
I.Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to :
4. describe how light is refracted
5. demonstrate reflection and refraction of light using various materials.
II. Subject Matter:

Title: Reflection and Refraction of Light

Reference: SCIENCE AND HEALTH 4 MELC-BASED

Materials : powerpoint , videos

III.Learning Tasks:
C. Preparatory Activity
- Prayers
- Greetings
- Checking of attendance
- Energizer
Lesson Proper:
Light behaves differently. Light bounces back on the surface. This is reflection.
Reflection is different from refraction. Reflection can form either regular or
irregular images. The bending of light is called refraction.
