I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 15-minute discussion, 75% of the students should be able to:
a. Define Reflection
b. Illustrate a diagram that represents the Laws of Reflection
c. Relate the concept of Reflection in real life situations
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Reflection of Light
References: Silverio, Angelina A., Physics: Exploring Life Through Science
Second Edition, 2012, Phoenix Publishing House, Inc., pages 422-423
Materials: flashlight, mirror, blackboard, chalk, visual aids
Concepts:
Reflection – is the turning back of light into the same medium after striking a
surface.
Incident ray – the ray that strikes the surface
Reflected ray – the ray that rebounds from the surface
Point of incidence – the point at which the incident ray strikes the surface
Normal – a line perpendicular to the surface at the point of incidence
Angle of incidence – the angle between the incident ray and the normal
Angle of reflection – the angle between the reflected ray and the normal
Regular/Specular reflection – reflection from smooth surface
Diffuse Reflection – reflection from rough surface
Values Integration: Mutual respect
III. PROCEDURE
A. Routines
 Greetings
 Classroom management
 Checking of attendance
B. Review
Let the students have a recapitulation of the previous lesson.
C. Motivation
Get a flashlight and a mirror. Point the flashlight into the mirror and ask
the students what would happen.
D. Development of the Lesson
1. What is Reflection?
2. Show a diagram representing the laws of reflection and state the two
laws.
3. When and where does regular/specular reflection and diffused
reflection occur?
4. Cite examples of the concept reflection in real life situations.
E. Generalization
Reflection is the turning back of light into the same medium after striking
a surface. There are two types of reflection. Regular or Specular
reflection which occurs on smooth surfaces and Diffused reflection from
rough surfaces. These two types of reflection obey two laws. The first
law wherein the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. And
the second law which states that the incident ray, the normal, and the
reflected ray lie in one plane.

IV. EVALUATION
Make an organizational chart regarding the concept of reflection, including
its laws and types.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Make an advanced reading on the next topic “Refraction of Light.”
