SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

SCIENCE 7
LESSON 3

March 1, 2023

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson plan, the students should be able to;
1. Describe the motion of an object in terms of acceleration.
2. Solve problems involving acceleration.
3. Acknowledge the significance of acceleration in everyday life.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TOPIC: Acceleration
B. REFERENCES: Science 7 Third Quarter – Module 1 Describing Motion Pp.
14-19
C. MATERIALS: PowerPoint presentation, Manila Paper, Whiteboard marker,
Illustration board, chalk, eraser

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
 Greetings
 Ask one student to lead the prayer
 Checking of attendance
 Presentation of learning objectives
B. Developmental Activity
 Review
Let the students recap the previous lesson.
 Drill
Let the students answer the following;
1. V_L_CI_Y VELOCITY
2. M_T_ON MOTION
3. A_C_L_R_TIO_ ACCELERATION
4. D_CE_E_A_ION DECELERATION
5. M_GN_T_DE MAGNITUDE
C. Elicit
Direction: Determine the following quantities whether it is speed or
velocity.
Measurements Speed or velocity
1. 2 miles per hour
2. 15 meters per hours
3. 8 meters per second
4. 5 kilometers per hour
5. 50 meters per second
6. 3 miles per hour East
7. 15 meters per second
8. 15 meters per second North
9. 10 kilometers per hour West
10. 10 kilometers per South

D. Engage
Group Activity
Direction: The figure below shows the car’s speedometer reading with
respect to time. Get the speedometer’s reading of the car’s speed from
00:00 to 00:04 s. The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will
write their answer in a 1/8 cardboard provided.
E. Explore
Direction: Analyze the pictures. Identify what comes between them.

1.

What are their interesting superpowers?

2. Do they run fast or slow?
3. Based on the picture, can you guess what will be our topic today?
F. Explain
Discuss interactively describing the motion of an object through
acceleration. Explain how acceleration are measured. Indicate the
formulas being used in measuring acceleration.
Formula;

Change∈velocity ∆v
Acceleration = in symbol a=
Change∈time ∆t

Example # 1:
The speedometer’s readings of a car at 1 second interval within 4 seconds.
At time 00:00, the car is at rest. The car started to move East at 00:01s
with a speed assuming of 1.39m/s until at 00:04s the car’s speed is 13.9
m/s. What is the average acceleration of the racing car?

Given:
Initial velocity – 0 m/s
Final velocity –
Time –
Solution:

∆v
a=
∆t
→ →

a = vf −vi
tf −ti

13.9 m / s−0 m / s
a=
4 s−0 s

13.9 m/ s
a=
4s
a = 3.48 m/s² East

Example #2:
How long will it take a driver to bring a jeepney travelling 50.0 m/s South
to a complete stop if its acceleration is -0.500 m/s² South?

Given:
Initial velocity – 50.0 m/s
Final velocity – 0 m/s
Acceleration – -0.500 m/s²

Solution:
→ →

a = vf −vi
tf −ti
→ →

t = vf −vi
a
0 m/s−50 m/s
t=
−0.500 m/s ²
−50 m/s
t=
−0.500 m/s ²
t = 100 s
G. Elaborate
To further understand the lesson, let the student answer another group
activity.
Direction: Examine the situation and solve the equation with your
solution.
1. A car travels at 90 km/h North. What is its acceleration in 3.00 hours if
it is started from rest.
2. As a car comes to a stop, it slows from 25 m/s North in 2.8 s. Find the
acceleration of the car.
After the activity, ask the student if they understood the concept of
acceleration and how it will be solved.
H. Evaluate
Let the students answer a short quiz.
Direction: Write your answer in a ¼ sheet of paper.
1. What is the rate of change in velocity called?
a. Distance
b. Acceleration
c. Time
d. Speed
2. What is the unit for acceleration
a. m/s
b. km/h
c. kwh
d. m/s²
3. Acceleration is significant since it shows how quick an object speeds
up or slows down in a given direction. Which example best describes
the concept of acceleration in everyday life?
I. An apple falling on the tree.
II. When a car brakes to stop at red light.
III. An object at rest.
IV. A car overtakes another vehicle.

a. I and II only
b. I, II and III only
c. IV only
d. I, II, III and IV
4. What is the formula for Acceleration?
∆v
a. a=
∆t
d
b. a=
t
c. a=Vf – Vi
d
d. a=
t
5. A race car accelerates 15 m/s to 35 m/s in 3 seconds. What is its
average acceleration?
a. 6.66 m/s
b. 0 m
c. 6.66 m/s²
d. 3 m/s²
I. Extend
Homework
For your assignment, answer the following;
Direction: Copy and complete the table by solving the missing values of
the quantities. Write you answer in a 1 whole sheet of paper.

Balls Initial Final Time Acceleration

velocity Velocity (s) (m/s²)
