Lesson Plan For Speed

This document outlines a mathematics lesson plan for a 7th grade class on computing speed, velocity, distance, and time. The objectives are for students to define speed/velocity and solve word problems involving it. Activities include a lecture on definitions and formulas, example problems, and a post-discussion. Students are evaluated by solving sample problems involving calculating speed from distance and time. The lesson aims to transfer skills in solving word problems involving velocity.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Region III
Schools Division of Nueva Ecija
BULAC NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Bulac, Talavera, Nueva Ecija
S.Y. 2019-2020

Subject Matter: Mathematics

Topic: Computing Speed/Velocity, Distance and Time
Year Level: Grade VII
Materials: Power point presentation, chalk and board
Time Frame: 40 minutes
Learning Plan

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners must be able to:
a. define what is speed/velocity; and
b. solve word problems involving velocity

II. Transfer Goal

At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. solve the word problems involving speed/velocity.

III. Stages of Instruction

A. Pre-Instruction
 Greeting of the learners
 Review of the past lesson

B. Instruction

Learning Activity 1: Lecture Discussion

The teacher will discuss about the definition of speed/velocity. Teacher will give the
learners an insight on how speed applied in real-life situation. Also, give the formula on how to
solve it and reconstitute the formula to get the other parameters in the given problem.

Speed/Velocity

What is Speed/Velocity?

Speed/velocity is the rate of an object to change in a position. Usually, it is computed as

distance travelled over time. We write it as,
𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒
𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑒𝑑 =
𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒

Guide Questions:

1. What is speed?
2. What is the difference between speed and velocity?
3. How to reconstitute the formula with the other unknown parameters?

Learning Activity 2: Think- Write- Pair- Share

The teacher will present the concepts about the lesson. There will be a cross explanation between the
teachers and students.

Activity 1: Solve the following problems involving speed.

1. A car travels 300 km in 5 hours, what is its rate?

2. Cyclist travels for 3 hours at rate of 45kph. Determine his distance travelled.
3. A man ride a bus, and the bus travels for 85kph at a distance of 8500 km. How long will it
travels?

C. Post Instruction

The teacher will ask the learners to give insights about the lesson learned.

a. How do you define speed?

b. What are some examples of speed?
c. How do you define velocity?
d. What are some examples of velocity?

IV. Evaluation

Direction in 1 whole sheet of paper, answer the following problems:

1. What is the average speed of an airplane that flies 300 miles in 6 hours?
2. Calculate the speed of a dog running through a field if he is covering 23.7 meters in 54 seconds?
3. If a cross country runner covers a distance of 347 m in 134s, what is her speed?
4. Calculate the velocity of a car that travels 556 km northeast in 3.4 hours?
5. Calculate the velocity of a mountain climber if that climber is moving northeast at a pace of 1.6
km in 1.4 hours. Convert it into m/s.

V. Assignment

Read about angles, and write what time you arrived in your house and go to the school. (It will use to
introduce the next lesson, Angles)
