Lesson Plan in Science 7

Date: November 25, 2019- Monday

Lesson: Waves as a Form of Energy Transfer
Section: 7- Majesty/ 7- Gratitude/ 7- Harmony/ 7-Patience/ 7-Obedience/ 7-Modesty
Teacher: Sarah Mae L. Manzanas

I. Learning Competency:
The learners should be able to infer that waves carry energy. S7FE-IIIc-4

II. Target:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. explain how waves carries energy;
b. demonstrate the transfer of energy carried by waves;
c. recognize the importance of wave in energy transformation.

III. Concept: Subject Matter: Waves as a Form of Energy Transfer

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY

1. REVIEW

A volunteer will be called to recapitulate what have been (A student will volunteer to recap the topic last
tackled last meeting. meeting.)

2. MOTIVATION

Ask the students to wave their hands and observe the

motion of their hands.

Process Questions:
1. Describe your personal hand wave. 1. The repetitive motion of the hand while
2. What causes motion? waving describe the hand is vibrating.
3. Think of a still lake. How would you generate water 2. Vibration
waves on the lake? 3. By vibrating the lake through disturbing it.
4. What do you call this disturbance? 4. It is a wave.

3. LESSON PROPER

3.1 Unlocking of Difficulties:

As we go along with our lesson we will encounter some
unfamiliar words.
Wave – is a disturbance through a medium in which
energy is transferred.
Medium – any substance through which waves
propagate.
Vibration – is a repeated back and forth motion of an
object.

3.2 Group Activity

Materials: wide pan or flat-bottomed basin, paper boat

What to do:
1. Fill the pan with water. Wait for the water to be still.
2. Dip your finger once lightly near the center of the pan.

Observe the water surface. What do you observe?

3. Move your finger continuously up and down at a
regular
rate. Observe closely.
a. What do you observe?
b. Is work done as you continuously move your finger

up and down the water surface? Why?

c. Can you say that you transferred enegy to the
water?
Is the energy transferred at one point only?
d. How is the energy transferred outward?
4. Place a paper boat near the center of the pan while
you
continuously move your finger up and down the water
surface near the edge.
a. Describe the motion of the paper boat.
b. What makes the boat move?
c. How is the energy transferred from your finger to the
paper boat? Series of waves produced.

3.3 Class Discussion Because when I dip my finger it causes

disturbance in the water.
What happened to the water surface when you dip your
finger?
Waves are formed because of the disturbance.
What causes the water to form waves? As I dip my finger it provides force that creates
waves. The particle in the water vibrates. The
energy is being passed from one particle to the
Based on your activity, how waves are formed? next.

Water.
What do you mean by medium?
Read the meaning of medium.

In your activity, which of the materials that you used is My finger supplies energy in the disturbing
the medium? water. The energy transferred to the paper boat,
Very good! making it bob up and down the water.
What have you observed about the boat at the water
while you continuously move your finger up and down? No.

Did the boat move together with the wave?

In this activity we can say that wave does not carry
matter but it only carries energy.

Mechanical Waves – are waves that requires medium

to transport energy. ex. sound waves

Electromagnetic Waves – are waves that are capable

of transmitting energy through an empty space
“vacuum”.
ex. light waves

Nature of waves:
1. A wave is travelling disturbance.
2. It carries energy from one phase to another.
3. Waves do not transmit matter, but they transmit
energy.
4. Vibration causes wave motion. (The students will raise their hands to answer.)
5. Waves travel through a medium (except light waves).

4. GENERALIZATION
1. Production and transmission of sound
How do waves carry energy? 2. Tidal wave
Why is it considered as a form of energy? 3. Storm surge/tsunami

5. APPLICATION

Give one situation where the concept of wave is applied

significantly.

1. energy
6. EVALUATION 2. disturbance
3. medium
Directions: Write the term being described on the blank 4. vibration
provided. 5. electromagnetic wave
__1. A wave transfers ___.
__2. A wave is a ___ which carries energy.
__3. It is any substance through which waves
propagate.
__4. It causes wave motion.
__5. A kind of wave that does not need a medium.

7. AGREEMENT

Bring the following tomorrow:

1. What are the different types of waves?
2. What is the difference between longitudinal
and transverse waves?
