E. SCIENCE CONCEPTS

Concepts Descriptions
Thermochemistr Is the study of energy or heat flow that accompanies
y a chemical reaction and/or physical transformation.
Heat Is a form of energy transfer between two objects as a
result of their difference in temperature. Represented
by q.
Energy the capacity to do work or transfer heat.
Endothermic If two substances react and the temperature of the
mixture decreases. It takes more energy to break the
bonds of the reactants than is released when the
bonds of the products are formed.
Exothermic If two substances react and the temperature of the
mixture increases. More energy is released when the
bonds of the products are formed than it takes to
break the bonds of the reactants.
System the part of the universe on which you focus your
attention.
Surroundings Everything else in the universe

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
Prayer

“Good morning, Class!”

“Before we start our new lesson this morning, kindly

stand and let us feel the presence of the Lord.”
“Our Father, Who art in heaven,
“Our Father…”
Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy
Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven. Give
us this day, our daily bread, And
forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from
evil.”

“Before you take your sits, please pick up any pieces

of paper and plastics under your chairs then arrange
your chair properly.”

Greetings “Good morning, ma’am!”

“Good morning Grade11 – WEB!”
“We are doing fine Ma’am.”
“How are you today class?”
“That’s good to hear “

Checking of Attendance
“Let’s Check your attendance, just say present if
you are around.”

“Arellano...” “Present ma’am!”

Classroom Management
“Here are the classroom rules class”
1. Do not do unnecessary things that are not
related in our lesson.
2. Listen well and take down important notes.
3. Raise your hand if you would like to recite,
share your insights, or ask questions.
“Is it clear class?” “Yes ma’am”
“Okay, very good”

B. MOTIVATION
“Before we start our new lesson, you will be having
an activity called Look Under and Identify!”
“This activity will test your prior knowledge about the
lesson to be discussed.”
“In this activity you will look under your chairs and
see if there is any piece of paper. For those students
who have one, kindly come here in front.”
(The students will participate in
“You have to analyze the picture and after analyzing the activity)
you have to identify if it undergoes physical change
or chemical change.”

(The student will perform the activity)

C. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

“Based on the activity that you perform what did you
observed?”
“There is …”
“Okay very good! There is a change.
“Physical Changes and Chemical Changes is
obviously accompanied by energy change. “

“Our topic today is all about Energy Changes in

Chemical Reaction”

(The teacher will let the students know that they will
having an activity, which is called "Coded Terms."
wherein each concept or term is introduced
numerically, and students must identify the associated
alphabet to find the correct term or concept.)

Informing the students that our topic is about

(7 19 22 9 14 12 24 22 19 14 18 8 7 9 2)
Thermochemistry

 Thermochemistry the study of heat and energy

changes that accompany physical and chemical
processes

(The teacher will describe the concepts underlying

Thermochemistry.)

 (22 13 22 9 20 2) Energy is the capacity to do

work.
(The teacher will give some example)
 (19 22 26 7) Heat is a form of energy transfer
between two objects as a result of their
difference in temperature. It is represented by q.

(In understanding the concept of heat, it is important to

define and differentiate between the system and its
surroundings.)

 (8 6 9 9 12 6 13 23 18 13 20 8) Surroundings
include everything else I the universe.
 (8 2 8 7 22 14) System is the part of the
universe being studied or to which attention is
focused.

(There are Three types of system which is the open

system, closed system, and isolated system)
1. 12 11 22 13 8 2 8 7 22 14
2. 24 15 12 8 22 23 8 2 8 7 22 14
3. 18 8 12 15 26 7 22 23
 A system Is said to be an open system if it
exchanges the matter (mass) as well as the
energy with its surroundings.
 A system is said to be a closed system if only
exchange of energy is possible between
system and surroundings and exchange of
matter (mass) is not possible.
 A system which can neither exchange energy
nor matter (mass) with its surroundings is
called an isolated system.

(The teacher will give some examples to

understand what is the difference of system and
surroundings)
D. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON

(The teacher will state that in every chemical “Changes ma’am!”

reaction, energy is either absorbed or released.
Define exothermic and endothermic change)
 If energy is released to the surroundings
when a change occurs, such change is
described as an exothermic change.
On the other hand, a change that involves
absorption of energy from the surroundings is said
to be an endothermic change
E. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON

(The teacher will state that in every chemical
reaction, energy is either absorbed or released.
Define exothermic and endothermic change)
 If energy is released to the surroundings
when a change occurs, such change is
described as an exothermic change.
 On the other hand, a change that involves
absorption of energy from the surroundings is
said to be an endothermic change.

 Use an interactive phase diagram tool to show students how

temperature and pressure affect the phase of a substance.
 Demonstrate how to read a phase diagram and how to identify the
different phases present.

F. FIXING SKILLS
 Provide examples of chemical reactions and ask students to
classify them as exothermic or endothermic.

G. GENERALIZATION

The teacher will review the main concepts covered in the lesson
and asking the students to summarize what they learned in their own
words.

5. Circle the correct answers. (2pts)
The bonds between the atoms of the reactants / products need to be broken first, this
is an endothermic / exothermic process. Theme bonds are made between the atoms
of the reactants / products, this is an endothermic / exothermic process.
