IV. PROCEDURES TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Preliminary Activities Good morning, everyone! Good morning, teacher!
1. Greetings
2. Prayer Before everything else, let us all stand and pray.
3. Checking of Yes, kindly lead the prayer. (the students will stand up and pray).
attendance
Amen. Kindly pick up the pieces of paper (the students will pick up the pieces of paper
and arrange your chairs. and arrange their chairs.)

Secretary, please note all the absentees today in

our attendance sheet. Put an X mark opposite
their names. Thank you.
A. Reviewing the Let us do an activity called “Pass the Mic”. Pass it
previous lesson and if I say, the one holding the mic will answer
or presenting my question. Are we clear? Yes, ma’am.
the new lesson.
(ELICIT) From your prior knowledge, what is the coolest Blue
color?

What about the hottest? Red

Which do you think the color that has energy? Low (answers may vary.)
energy?
B. Establishing a Let all watch this video and later you will share
purpose for the your learnings in the class.
lesson.
(ENGAGE)
C. Discussing new Activity 1:
concepts and Characteristics of Stars
practicing new
skills. Objectives: In this activity, students will be able to
(EXPLORE) infer the relationship between the color of a star
and its brightness.

Part A. Color
1. The student will observe the flame of the stove
through video presentation.
2. Observe and note the color of the flames.
Q1. What is the color of the flame as the stove
slowly turning off?
Q2. What is the color of the flame as you turn the
switch at full power?
Q3. What happens to the temperature of the flame
as it becomes brighter and brighter?

Part B. Brightness
1. Place the two identical small flashlights on a
table or chair near the front of
the room.
2. Darken the room and turn on the two flashlights.
Compare the brightness of
the two flashlights.
3. Place one flashlight on a table or chair at the
back of the room. Darken the
room and turn on the two flashlights.
4. Observe the two flashlights from the front of the
room. Compare the
brightness of the two flashlights. Which flashlight
appears to be brighter?

5. Replace the small flashlight at the back of the

room with a bigger flashlight.
Compare the apparent brightness of the two
flashlights. Which flashlight
appears to be brighter?
9. Adjust the positions of the two flashlights until
they appear to have the same
brightness.

Q1. Why do the two flashlights have different

brightness?

D. Developing If you were asked, what color represents hot, what Red color is hot and blue represents cold
mastery color represents cold? color.
(EXPLAIN)
Yes, red has traditionally been seen as hot because
it is the color most commonly associated with fire
while color blue has traditionally been seen as cold
because it is the color most commonly associated
with liquid water.

In part 1 of your activity, it is the opposite with

fires we can explain it using a color spectrum.
Same with the colors of the stars, star color ranges
from red to blue. The color of the star will tell you
how cold or hot the star is. The color of the star
indicates its surface temperature.

In part 2, The brightness of a star as seen from the

Earth depends on two factors-distance and the
actual brightness (or absolute brightness) of the
star. The star’s brightness as seen from Earth is its
apparent brightness. Based on the activity,
apparent brightness depends on how far away a
star is from the Earth.

E. Finding Let’s take Sirius and Rigel to illustrate the effect of

practical distance to apparent brightness.
applications of
concepts &
skills in daily
living.
(ELABORATE)

Class, who can compare Sirius and Rigel star? Rigel star will shine brighter than Sirius and
their size were very much far from each
other. Rigel is way way bigger than Sirius.

Correct! Compared to the Sun, Sirius is about 27

times as powerful as the Sun, but Rigel has the
power of many thousands of Suns. In terms of
distance from the Earth, Rigel is almost 100 times
farther away than Sirius. In terms of apparent
brightness, Sirius is about twice as bright as Rigel.

Why do you think so?

Sirius looks very bright when viewed from
Earth because it is closer to Earth.
However, astronomers consider the star’s absolute
brightness when comparing stars. What is again
the absolute brightness of a star? A star’s absolute brightness is the brightness
the star would have if all stars were the
same standard distance from Earth.

Very good! Who will summarize our topic today? Colors of stars indicates its temperature.
Blue stars are the hottest star and red stars
are the coolest one. The hottest star will
shine brighter than coolest star. There are
also two kinds brightness: apparent and
absolute. Apparent brightness is the
brightness as seen on earth and distance has
an effect on it and absolute is the actual
brightness where in this is what astronomers
consider when comparing the stars.

Very well said! Let us give him/her a big clap.

F. Evaluating Let us then evaluate your learnings. I will be

learning flashing questions and you will say Omsim if it is
(EVALUATE) true and Rawr if not.

1. Blue is the hottest star. 1. Omsim

2. Red has higher energy than white stars. 2. Rawr
3. Absolute brightness is the actual brightness of 3. Omsim
the star.
4. Apparent brightness is what astronomers 4. Rawr
consider when comparing the stars.
5. Distance has an effect to apparent brightness.
5. Omsim

G. Additional Read and familiarize yourselves on the different

activities for kinds of constellations.
application or
Remediation. I will leave a quotation before we part ways. “Do
(EXTEND) not just look at the stars. BE ONE”. That would be
all for today.

Let’s have a closing prayer.

(pray)

Class dismiss!
Goodbye and thank you, Teacher!
