In General Chemistry 2
Grade 11
(Intermolecular Forces of Attraction)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. describe the general types of intermolecular forces
2. differentiate their characteristics from each other
3. identify the types of IMFA using a flow chart
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic Intermolecular Forces of Attraction

D. Science Observing, Classifying, Inferring, Communicating
Processes
E. Science a. Intermolecular Forces of Attraction – forces of attraction
Concepts that exist between particles of substances.
b. Dipole-Dipole Forces – it exists between polar molecules.
These are short-ranged forces that exist between molecules
that are very near to each other.
c. Hydrogen Bonds – it is a special type of dipole-dipole
interaction that exists only in molecules that contains a
hydrogen atom bonded to a small, highly electronegative
atom such as nitrogen, oxygen, or fluorine.
d. Ion-Dipole Forces – it acts between an ion (either positive or
negative) and a polar molecule.
e. London Dispersion Forces – are intermolecular forces of
attraction that exist between all atoms and molecules.
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary
Activities
1. Greetings The teacher will welcome ang greet the students.
2. Prayers The teacher will choose a student to lead the opening prayer.
3. Setting The teacher will present the things that should be considered if the
Classroom class is going on. The virtual classroom rules will be introduced to
Rules the students.

4. Checking of The class secretary will be requested to check the attendance.

Attendance

B. Motivation Activity 1: “Guess the “gey bee rish!”

The activity will be done by the teacher showing some gibberish
words and then student shall guess what really the word or the
phrase is which is connected to the lesson of the day.
C. Presentation of The teacher will ask the students to fix the shuffled letters to form a
the Lesson phrase.

“TRENILEMOCURAL ECROF FO TTTRACAOIN”

INTERMOLECULAR FORCE OF ATTRACTION

Then the objectives will be presented to the class.

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. describe the general types of intermolecular forces
2. differentiate their characteristics from each other
3. identify the types of IMFA using a flow chart
D. Development of The teacher will further discuss the lesson about the following:
the Lesson I. What is Intermolecular force?
II. Types of Intermolecular Forces of Attraction
a. Dipole-Dipole
b. Hydrogen Bonding
c. Ion-Dipole
d. London Dispersion Forces

III. The teacher will use a flow chart to easily identify the
types of IMFA

E. Fixing Skills Activity 2: “Fill in the Blanks!”

The teacher will call students to fill in the blank spaces with the
missing characteristics of the types of IMFA. They will choose among
the choices alongside/under the table. The students that will
participate and answers correctly will receive a price.
