B. Performance standard:
Discuss whether popular beliefs and practices with regards to
constellation and astrology have scientific basis.

C. Learning competency
Show which constellation may be observed at different times of the year using.
models (S9ES-111e-35)

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion the students will be able to.

1. Described the different characteristics of a star in terms of
color,surface,temperature brightness and size.
2. Relate the color with temperature of the star.
3. Make a model of arrangement of the sizes of some stars using localized teacher
made instructional material.

Earlier, I have given you a green and red star Yes Ma’am
am right?

Alright kindly raised them up please ? The student raised their stars

Now you only have to do is to raise the

green star if the answer to my statement is Yes Ma’am
true and red star if the answer is false is that
clear?

Alright !!

Statement 1:Constellation are group of star

which produced a pattern or a beautiful
image in the night sky .

Statement 2. The sun is not considered a

star .

Statement 3.Constellation can be useful

especially in the ancient times in-terms of
navigation's ,time and seasonal calendar

Statement 4. We have 88 constellations

recognized by international Astronomy
union
(IAU)
Statement 5. Cappricorn ,Cassiopeia ,and
Saguitarious are Zodiac signs

Very good class you got all the correct

answers.it only means that you really
understood the topic well.

B. Establishing the purpose of the lesson.

At this point class I want you to close your

eyes and imagine that you are looking at the
night sky while feeling the breeze of the

Is sun considered a star? Yes it is. Yes ma’am

It’s the nearest star to our planet and the
only star in the solar system.
There are approximately 400 billion stars in
our galaxy, and there are about 170 billion
galaxies.

But despite of these great numbers of stars

in our galaxy a person can only see only
Abo ut 3,000 stars on the average.

activity has 3 parts .

I will be assigning reign ,aila and Vince ,to

lead their assigned groups ,please count 1-3

You only have 2 minutes to do the task.

DIRECTIONS: Arrange the stars according

to its increasing surface temperature. Stick
the image on the first column of the table.

the questions that follows.

Q3. How do you compare the temperature of The temperature of the stars can vary
the sun to the other stars? depending on their size, age and chemical
composition. For example,blue super giants
are among the hottest stars, with surface
temperatures that can exceed 50,000 degree
celsius (90,000) degrees Fahrenheit) while
red dwarfs are among the coolest stars
stars,with surface temperatures below 3,500

Compare the brightness of the two
flashlights.

Q4. Which flashlight appear to be brighter? Answer : the small flashlight appear to be
brighter because even if it is small but it is
near.

Q5. Why do flashlights have different Because they have different size, different
brightness? batteries .
2. Replace the small flashlight at the back of
the bigger flashlight. Compare the apparent
brightness of the two flashlights.

Q6. Which flashlight appear to be brighter? The big flashlight

Q7. Why do flashlights have different The two flashlight emit different brightness of
brightness? light or commonly known as luminosity, first
reason could be the batteries inside the two
flashlight have now different capacities .

2B: Absolute Brightness Adjust the

position of the two flashlights until they
appear at the same distance.

Q8. Which flashlight appear to be brighter? The big flashlight

What is your determining factor to find out
the true brightness of the two flashlight Luminosity and distance .
lights?

Assignment
With your parents’ assistance, in a clear
night sky, look at the stars from 7 pm to
11 pm. Look for a group of stars forming
a pattern; you may refer to the
constellation map below. Focus on the
one or two constellations like Leo and
Ursa Major which are best seen in the
month of April. Observe the stars clearly
every hour, 7pm to 11 pm. Answer the
guide questions in your notebook.

Q1. Compare the position of the stars in

the sky. What do you notice?

Q2. Are stars visible at 7 pm still visible

at 11 pm in their “original position”?

Q3. How do stars move? Describe the

movement of the stars in the night sky?

Q4. How is the motion of stars similar to
