ABSTRACT

The existence of organizational politics and the way it is handled in an organization is


very important to the success of every organization. Organizational politics plays a great
role in how employees relate to each other at their workplace. When employees in an
organization convert their powers into action politics comes into existence. Those with
good political skills have the ability to use their bases of power vigorously. Politics
concerns to the ways people gain and use power. Thus, organizational politics means the
use of energy, strength and influence in organizations. Many researches have been
conducted in various sectors to demonstrate the impact of Organizational Politics (OP).
The aim of this study was to examine the nexus between organizational politics and
employee’s performance in Multichoice Nigeria Limited, Lagos. The study adopted a
descriptive survey research design. Target population comprised of the three hundred
and nineteen (319) staff of Multichoice Nigeria Ltd across the selected branches in
Lagos. Sample size was determined at 175 using Krejcie and Morgan sampling technique
and the sampled respondents were selected using the simple random sampling technique.
Data was collected through a well-structured questionnaire. The result of analysis
showed a positive relationship between bureaucratic political system and employee’s
performance (r =0.173 and 0.730; P<0.05). Also, autocratic political system have a
positive relationship with employee performance (r=0.614 and 0.247; P<0.05) and
lastly, democratic political system have a significant relationship with employee
performance (r =0.201 and 0.640; P<0.05). As a result, the study concluded that the
study hereby concluded that there is a strong relationship between organizational
politics and employee’s performance in the Multichoice Nigeria Ltd. in Ikeja. In
furtherance, it was sufficed that workers need to ensure high performance at work is
feasible through effective organizational political system to guarantee job performance
and therefore also bring about higher productivity
