OIL FIELD EQUIPMENT

NATURAL GAS ENGINES

PROCEDURES TO START AND STOP THE KNG’s ENGINE MODELS

1) BEFORE START THE ENGINE CHECK:

a. Water level:
- The level of the water gauge: the needle should be in the full position.
- In the rubber tube there is a “glass tube” which should be full of water.
- Open the cap of the radiator. Through it, the radiator should be covered by 1” or 25mm
approximately with water.

b. Oil levels:
- The oil sight gauge should show that the oil is on the green line.
- If the engine is not equipped with oil sight gauge, remove the dip-stick and make sure
that it indicates it is full.
- If the level is low, fill it with low ash oil grade SAE 30.

c. Natural Gas or GLP Fuel System:

- Check gas leak in the entire system throughout the supplying pipe and hoses.
- Open the gas valves from the beginner source to the engine and keep the supply valve to
the carburetor closed.
- After checking that the supply valve to the carburetor is closed; disconnect the hose or
assembly and install a manometer.
- Open the gas valve and observe the gas pressure entering the carburetor. This should
measure between 180 and 220 mmH2O.
- Close the valve and reconnect the hose.

d. Electrical wires and battery cables

- Check that the cables for the electrical installation are not damaged.
- Check the spark plugs and spark plug wire.
- Check that the starter and the by-pass buttons are in working order.
- That the battery cables are connected correctly.

e. Compress and decompress lever

- Check that the lever is on the decompression position.

f. The clutch
- Check that it is in the release position.
- Check grease.

g. Pumping Unit (PU)

- Check that the brakes are in the on position.
- Check the recommendations of the PU manufacture before start it.

2) PROCEDURE TO START THE ENGINE:

a) Place the Speed lever in the middle of its travel (halfway).

b) Open the gas valve.

c) With your right hand press the starter and the bypass button simultaneously, with your
left hold the decompress lever.

d) Push the starter and bypass button to allow the engine to turn about 160 rpm about 5 or 6
turns and with your left hand move the lever of the decompress to the compress position.

e) The engine will start immediately. Release the starter button, but maintain the bypass
button engaged, yet.

f) Once the level of the oil pressure is up, you can see it in the oil pressure meter. The
pressure should be about 30 to 40 PSI; also the engine has a double oil pressure check
point since the valve cover can be seen through the glass a bronze piston. As soon as
you see the piston “UP” you will know that you have sufficient oil pressure.

g) Slow the speed to 500 to 600 rpm and wait until the engine warms up. This will take
approximately 5 to 10 minutes depending on the weather.

h) Once the engine is hot you can take the engine to the desire rpm or speed. The Better
performance is around 650 rpm.

i) Then disengage the PU or pump jack.

j) Proceed to engage the engine to the PU or pump jack.

k) Adjust to the desire speed with speed lever. You must consider the ultimate speed of the
engine, once is in the well the constant speed is 650 rpm. This will be maximum torque.
Adjust through the diameter’s pulley of the strokes per minutes in the PU that you need
to obtain maximum production from that well.

3) PROCEDURE TO STROP THE ENGINE

a) Disengage the engine clutch

b) Apply the brakes on the PU or pump jack.

c) Slow the speed of the engine with the speed lever.

d) Close the gas valve.

e) Once the engine has stopped, position the decompress lever in decompress (toward the
left).
