The seven and a half year period during which Saturn transits in the twelfth, first and second
houses from the birth rashi (Moon sign) is called the Sadhesati of Saturn.
Your birth rashi is Leo therefore the period during which Saturn transits in

One Sadhesati is made up of three periods of approximately two and half years each, because

Remedies for Sadhesati of Saturn and Dhayya
To alleviate the ill-effects of Sadhesati of Saturn and Dhayya, the following are prescribed -
1. Mantra
(a) 125,000 times recitations of Mahamrityunjaya mantra should be done (daily 10 malas for 125
days).

3. Gems and Metals
On Saturday, wear an iron ring made from the bottom of a boat or a horse's bridle in the middle
finger.
4. Vratta (Fasting)
Observe Vratta on Saturdays. Worship Lord Saturn with kavacha, stotra and mantra. It is beneficial
torecite the Saturday Vratta Katha. On the day of Vratta, consume milk, curd and fruit juice during
day time and in the evening pay visit to the temple of Lord Hanuman or Bhairavji. Take sweet halwa
(sweet dish) made of Urad pulse or salted Khichari (dish prepared from rice and Urad pulse boiled
together).
5. Medicine
Every Saturday bathe with surma, black sesame seeds, saunf (anise), nagarmotha (the sweet smelling
grass Cyperus) and lodha (the tree Symploce racemoze).
6. Donation
To appease Lord Saturn, donate urad (a type of pulse), oil, sapphire, sesame seeds, kulathi (a horse
bean), buffalo, iron, money and black clothes.
7. Other Remedies
(a) Wrap a raw cotton thread seven times round a peepal tree (the holy fig tree) on a Saturday
evening and recite the mantra for Saturn. Light a lamp with mustard oil under the tree and seek
forgiveness for any misdeed done knowingly or unknowingly in the past.
(b) Measure a black thread equal to 19 times the length of your hand and wear it like a garland.
(c) Ruse: On Saturday bury in an un-tilled place a sweet made of urad pulse, sesame, oil and
jaggery.
(d) For the appeasement of Saturn, on a Saturday wear the tail of a Scorpion wrapped in a black
thread.

Results of Sadhesati
Since ancient times, there has been a general belief among the masses that the Sadhesati of Saturn is
usually painful and problematic from the mental, physical and financial point of view. The moment
people hear about Sadhesati of Saturn, they get worried and fearful. During the Sadhesati of Saturn the
person may experience laziness, mental stress, disputes, problems due to ailments and enemies, losses
due to theft and fire and death of elders in the family might occur.

In other words, when Saturn in transit is in the fourth or eighth house from the Moon sign, it is a
period for illness, quarrels with brothers, foreign stay, hardships and anxiety. During Sadhesati, Saturn
in the first or second house causes ailments related to the head, heart and legs, fear from the wicked
and hardships for sons and cattle.
In general experience it is not seen that the entire period of seven and half years is painful. In fact,
during Sadhesati, some auspicious events may still occur like, marriage, birth of children, promotion at
work, business, victory in election and foreign travel.

Results of the Dhayya of Sadhesati
It has been generally seen that out of the three Dhayyas of Sadhesati, one gives
nauspicious results. This can be decided according to the number of auspicious lines found
in the Ashtaka and Sarvashtaka Varga of Saturn. Saturn gives mixed results when Saturn
has 4 points in the Ashtakavarga and 28 points in the Sarvashtaka Varga. If the points
exceed this number the results are auspicious and if they fall below this number they are
inauspicious. If in the birth horoscope, Saturn is strong(exalted or placed in own rashi) or

Remedies to Repel Mangala Dosha

To ward off the effects of Mangala Dosha following are recommended –
• One should fast on Tuesdays (sunrise to next day sunrise). During the day consume liquid drinks
without salt like tea, coffee, milk, fruit juice and curd. In the evening, draw a triangle with red kumkum
(roli) on a plate and worship with Panchopachara [red sandalwood, red flowers, incense (dhoop), lighted
lamp and food consecrated to a deity]. Thereafter, only before sunset, one may consume wheat bread,
ghee and jaggery (unrefined cane sugar).
• If the Mangalik Dosha is pronounced then the Mangala Chandika Strotra should be recited daily
for 21 times for 108 consecutive days. In the morning hours one should sit facing the eastern direction,
light a five stroked lamp and worship one's deity (Ishta) and the planet Mars (Mangala) with

rinsing it in purified water. Then, holding and concentrating on the gem, perform the mantra

occasionally, one may not accomplish what one desires. One will be virtuous, endowed with
the opposite sex company, obedient, clever, wealthy, good looking and virtuous. One will

When the lord of the tenth house is in the sixth house, one is troubled by enemies. One is
clever but never successful in attaining happiness. One may be anxious due to fear from
enemies, quarrelsome, miserly, heartless and healthy. One may be ailing, may bear enmity
towards the king/queen, may cause disputes and may be very sensuous. If one escapes one's
enemies, one survives due to luck. When the lord of the tenth house is a malefic then one has
a very difficult childhood but later on becomes an official. One's mother has a bad character.
One may face many obstacles in business and enemies may inflict harm.

When the lord of the eleventh house is in the sixth house, one suffers from many types of
ailments, is happy, resides elsewhere and serves others. One has enemies, suffers from long
lasting ailments, is weak, clever and respected by clever people. One travels abroad and may
die there or be troubled by thieves. One will have many enemies who may create trouble and
one may collect an army of four types. If a malefic is there then one may die abroad because
of thieves. Gains attained may be lost, poverty persists and friends will behave like enemies
and maternal uncle will be helpful.

sex company, weak, suffering from cough related ailments and skilled at using a bow and
arrow. When the lord of the twelfth house is a malefic then one has an evil mind, one behaves
cruelly like a tyrant and is the leader in one's house. One may get wealth from a prostitute.
One may be bad character and one's speech may be foul and may be deprived of spouse. If a
benefic graha accompanies then a prostitute may destroy him. As per Mansaagri, one's spouse

Classics : Houses and Planets
Effects of the 1st house (Tanu Bhava)

Indications of first house: physique, appearance, intellect (or the organ of intelligence, i.e. brain),
complexion of the body, vigour, weakness, happiness, grief, and innate nature are all to be guessed
through the ascending sign.
BP 12-1. Physical comforts: Should the ascendant lord be conjunct with a malefic or be in 6th,
8th or 12th house, physical felicity will diminish.
BP 12-1. If the ascendant lord is in debilitation, combustion, or enemy's sign, there will be
diseases.
BP 12-1. Ascendant lord with a benefic in an angle or trine, all diseases will disappear.
BP 12-1. Angles from the ascendant (i.e. 4th, 7th, or l0th house) or its trine (5th, 9th) containing
a benefic is a powerful remedy for all related to health.
BP 12-3. Felicity of the body will be enjoyed if the ascendant is aspected by or conjunct with a
benefic.
BP 12-7. If Mercury, Jupiter or Venus be in 4th, 7th or 10th from the ascendant or be in the
company of the Moon in the ascendant, the native will enjoy royal fortunes.
BP 24-6. If the ascendant lord is in 6th house and related to a malefic the native will be devoid
of physical happiness, and will be troubled by enemies if there is no benefic aspect.
SA 34-3. If Mars lends his aspect to the ascendant, one will be fond of valorous acts and battles,
irascible, will have severed relationship, be very righteous and will have a long penis.
SA 34-5. If Jupiter aspects the ascendant one will be interested in religious observations, be
honoured by the king, be famous and will be endowed with (the company of) virtuous people,
elders and guests.
Effects of the 2nd house (Dhana Bhava)

Indications of 2nd house: Wealth, grains (food etc.), family, death, enemies, metals, precious stones
etc. are to be understood through the second house.
BP 13-1. If the lord of 2nd is in 2nd house or is in an angle or in trine he will promote one's
wealth (or monetary state).
BP 13-6. There will be penury right from birth and the native will have to beg even for his food
if the lords of 2nd and 11th house are both combust or with malefics.
BP 24-21. If lord of the 2nd house is in 9th house, the native will be wealthy, diligent, skilful,
sick during childhood, and will later on be happy (i.e. healthy), and will visit shrines, observing

Effects of the 3rd house (Sahaj Bhava)

brothers, sisters, etc. initiatory instructions (Upadesh), journey, and parent's death.
BP 14-1. Should 3rd house be conjunct with or aspected by a benefic, the native will be endowed with
co-born and be courageous.
BP 14-6. Happiness in this respect will come to pass if Mars or lord of the 3rd house is in an angle or
in a trine or in exaltation, or friendly divisions.
BP 24-34. If lord of the 3rd house is in 10th house, the native will have all lands of happiness and
self-made wealth, and be interested in nurturing wicked females.
BP 25-15. Dhooma is in 3rd house, the native will be intelligent, very bold, delighted, eloquent, and
be endowed with men and wealth.
Effects of 4th house (Bandhu Bhava)

Indications of 4th house: Conveyances, relatives, mother, happiness, treasure, lands and buildings are to
be consulted through 4th house.
BP 15-2. Miscellaneous: Should lord of the 5th house be in his own house, or in own Navamsha or in
exaltation, the native will be endowed with comforts related to lands, conveyances, houses, etc., and
musical instruments.
BP 15-15. A malefic related to 4th house (and to its lord) will produce only malefic effects (in respect
of conveyances).
BP 15-17. Should a malefic be in 4th, aspects 4th, or in conjunct with the lord of 4th, or an aspect on
the lord of 4th house, one will experience losses concerning vehicles and reduce one to severe
accidents.
BP 24-41. If lord of the 4th house is in 5th house, the native will be happy and be liked by all. He will
be devoted to Shri Vishnu, be virtuous, honourable, and will have self-earned wealth.
BP 25-24. If Parivesha is in 4th house, the native will be wonder-struck, helpful to enemies as well,
kind, endowed with everything and be skilful in singing.
Effects of the 5th house (Putra Bhava)

Indications of 5th house: The learned should deduce from 5th house amulets, sacred spells, learning,
knowledge, sons, royalty (or authority), fall of position, etc.

in disposition, will earn learning, clothes and food, will have many sons and friends, be a scholar and be

HS 21-24. Should the Moon be in 5th house, one will possess wife, wisdom, and strength. His wealth
will be hard earned.
SA 34-32. Issuelessness: If the 5th house falls in a malefic's sign and be occupied by strong malefics
without benefic's aspect, the native will be childless.
Effects of the 6th house (Ari Bhava)

Indications of 6th house: Maternal uncle, doubts about death, enemies, ulcers, step-mother, etc., are to
be estimated from 6th house.
BP 17-2. Relatives Affected: The significator of a relative or the lord of such a house joining lord of
the 6th house, or being in 6th, or 8th house, indicates ulcers/bruises to such a relative like father. The
Sun with such lordship and in such a house denotes such affectation of head, the Moon denotes such
affection of the face, Mars denotes such affection of the neck, Mercury denotes such affection of the
navel, Jupiter denotes such affection of the nose, Venus denotes such affection of the eyes, Saturn
denotes such affection of the feet, and Rahu and Ketu denote such affection of the abdomen.
BP 17-3. If the Sun is the lord of 6th house, or is with lord of the 6th house, or is in 6th, or 8th house,
the native will be apt to incur affliction of head, and so on and so forth.
BP 17-12. Loss through Enemies: Loss of wealth will come to pass during the 31st year if 11th and
6th lords exchange their signs.
BP 24-70. If lord of the 6th house is in 10th house, the native will be well known among his men, will
not be respectfully disposed to his father and will be happy in foreign countries. He will be a gifted
speaker.
SA 30-30. Mars in the 6th house: If Mars occupies the 6th house, the native will be highly
libidinous, will have powerful digestive fire, be beautiful, tall, strong, and great among his relatives.
SA 30-79. Saturn in the 6th house: If Saturn occupies the 6th house, the native will be very
licentious, be beautiful, courageous, will eat abundantly, be crooked and will conquer many of his
enemies.
HS 21-38. Should Mars be in 6th house, one will be base and idle.
HS 21-87. If Saturn is in 6th house, the native will be helpful, be free from any enemies and diseases,
and he will be very famous.

Effects of the 7th house (Yuvati Bhava)

BP 18-3. If Venus conjunct a malefic in any house will cause loss of wife.
BP 18-9. Wife of a Brahmin or a pregnant female will be in the native's association if Jupiter is in 7th
house.
BP 18-10. Jupiter will bring a spouse with hard and prominent breasts.
BP 18-13. Should Venus be in a Navamsa of Mars or in a sign of Mars or receive an aspect from or be
conjunct with Mars, the native will "kiss" the private parts of the female.
BP 18-16. Evils to Spouse : If 7th house or its lord is conjunct with a malefic the native's wife will
incur evils, especially if 7th house or its lord is bereft of strength.
BP 24-81. If lord of the 7th house is in 9th house, the native will have union with many women, be
well-disposed to his own wife and will have many undertakings (or assignments).
BP 25-49. If Pranapada is in 7th house, the native will be green eyed, ever libidinous, fierce in
appearance, be not worth respect, and be ill-disposed.
SA 30-55. Jupiter in the 7th house: If Jupiter occupies the 7th house, the native will be charming,
will acquire a beautiful wife, be greater than his father, be an eloquent speaker, a poet, a superior person
and be learned and famous.
HS 21-63. Jupiter in 7th house will bless one with a good wife and sons, and will make him a better
scholar than ever before.
SA 34-43. Jupiter and Venus related to the 7th house will confer a bride of the same caste while the
Sun, Mars, Saturn and the Moon denote a female belonging to a mean order. As per Ketumalacharya,
Venus and Moon related to the 7th house will cause relationship with whores.
SA 34-44. Should Mars and Venus be together in the 5th or 7th or 9th, the native will beget a languid
or deformed wife.
SA 34-49. Should the Moon, along with even one of Mercury, Jupiter and Venus, be in the 7th, the
native will be opulent.
Effects of the 8th house (Randhra Bhava)

Indications of 8th house: 8th house indicates longevity, battle, enemies, forts, wealth of the dead, and
things that have happened and are to happen (in the past and future births).

SA 32-6. If all the planets aspect Jupiter posited in the 9th, the native will possess excellent guise,
virtues, splendour, sovereignty and abundant riches.
SA 32-8. If the malefic in the 9th is the owner of that house then it proves auspicious. And with a
benefic's aspect it is more auspicious.
SA 32-84. If the 9th is occupied by planets, without the company of Mercury or Jupiter , the native
will be sickly, ugly, void of relatives, be troubled by imprisonments and will suffer penury.
Effects of the 10th house (Karma Bhava)

Indications of 10th house: Royalty (authority), place, profession (livelihood), honour, father, living in
foreign lands and debts are to be understood from 10th house.
BP 21-3. If the lord of the 10th house is devoid of strength, the native will face obstructions in his
work.
BP 24-114. If the lord of the 10th house is in 6th house, the native will be bereft of paternal bliss.
Although he may be skilful he will be bereft of wealth and be troubled by enemies.
BP 25-59. If Vyatipata is in 10th house, the native will be religious, peaceful, skilful in religious acts,
very learned, and far-sighted.
SA 30-10. The Sun in the 10th house: Should the Sun be in the 10th house, the native will be
extremely intelligent, rich, strong and will be endowed with conveyances, relatives and sons, will

HS 21-16. The person who has the Sun in 10th house will attend to royal duties at all times; he will be
brave and like warring. He will be widely famous.
HS 21-54. With Mercury in 10th house one will become lord of money, give donations, be

SA 31-6. If the Sun and Mercury are in the 10th, he will be famous in the entire world, will own
elephants and horses and be a king, provided none of these two is in debilitation.
GH 1101. The Sun, Mercury in the 10th house: The native will be very intelligent, be famous, be free
from desires, be fond of others, truthful and grateful.
Effects of the 11th house (Labha Bhava)

Indications of 11th house: All articles, son's wife, income, prosperity, quadrupeds, etc., are to be
understood from 11th house.
BP 22-11. There will be no gains in spite of numerous efforts if lord of the 11th house is in fall, in
combustion, or be in 6th, 8th, or 12th house with a malefic.
BP 24-126. If lord of the 11th house is in 6th house, the native will be afflicted by diseases, be cruel,
living in foreign places and troubled by enemies.
SA 34-58. If the 11th house is aspected by (or associated with) all the planets, advent of wealth will
be in several ways. The strongest of those will have the highest influence.
Effects of the 12th house (Vyaya Bhava)

Indications of 12th house: From 12th house, one can know about expenses, history of enemies, one's own
death, etc..
BP 23-4. If he be in an angle or trine, the native will beget a spouse.
BP 24-139. If lord of the 12th house is in 7th, the native will incur expenditure on account of his
wife, will not enjoy conjugal bliss, and will be bereft of learning and strength.
Effects of the Sun
SA 22-46. The Sun in Capricorn: One who has the Sun in Capricorn will be base, interested in bad
women, be greedy, will advance with mean jobs, be endowed with various deeds, be timid, devoid of
relatives, fickle-minded, fond of wandering, weak, will lose everything due to conflicts with his
relatives, and will be a voracious eater.

SA 25-6. Mars in Virgo: Should Mars occupy Virgo at birth, the subject will be worthy of honor, be
never rich, be very fond of sexual union and music, be soft and sweet spoken, will have various kinds of
expenses, be not much valorous, be learned, will have ribs in their advanced position, will fear enemies
very much, be skillful in Shastras and fine arts, be fond of bathing, make-up etc., and be splendorous.
SA 45-6. Mars in an inimical sign denotes that native will face confinement and defeat at the hands of
enemies, poverty, distress and misfortunes.
Effects of Mercury
SA 26-10. Mercury in Capricorn: If Mercury is in Capricorn at birth, the native will be mean, dull,
impotent, will do others' work, be devoid of virtues, be subjected to various kinds of miseries, will
dream, wander etc., be a tale bearer, be untruthful, devoid of relatives, dirty and timid.
SA 45-6. If Mercury be placed in a sign that is ruled by his enemy, the subject will be devoid of
intelligence, will experience many miseries and will be very poor.
Effects of Jupiter
SA 27-7. Jupiter in Libra: If Jupiter occupies Libra at birth, one will be a scholar, will have many

earn money through dance and drama, be pleasing in appearance, be splendorous, learned in Shastras, be

house/exaltation house as the Ascendant. This will be so throughout the life.

SA 29-6. Saturn in Virgo: If Saturn occupies Virgo at birth the subject will resemble a eunuch, be
very crafty, will depend on others for food, be addicted to prostitutes, will have a few friends, be
unacquainted with arts, be desirous of indulging in ugly acts, wi11 possess sons and wealth, be indolent,
helpful to others, will intent upon spoiling virgins and be cautious in his actions.
Avasthas of Planets
SA 45-10. If the Sun is in Netrapani Avastha, the native will always be happy, wise, helpful to others,
endowed with prowess, and wealth, very happy, and will gain royal favours.
SA 45-21. If the Sun is in Netrapani Avastha in 5th, 9th, 10th, or 7th house there will be all kinds of
happiness.
SA 45-22. If the Sun is in Netrapani Avastha in houses other than 5th, 9th, 10th, or 7th,the Sun will
give eye diseases and enmity with all.
SA 45-65. If Mars is in Nidr Avastha, the native will be short-tempered, devoid of intelligence and

Raja Yogas
SA 35-2. According to Yavanas, if only malefics are exalted, the native will become a king indulging

angle establishes a relationship with the lord of a trine, a Raja Yoga is obtained. (A sixth kind of
relationship can also be extended in this context to Navamsha positions though there is no specific
classic sanction for this. For example in the case of a Capricorn native, Mars in the Navamsha of Venus,
and Venus in the Navamsha of Mars will confer a superior Raja Yoga. This form of relationship will be

BP 33-43. Ketu or Rahu in Karakamsha or in the 5th from there denotes that one is a Jyotishi.
BP 33-46. While he will be indolent if a benefic is in the 6th from Karakamsha. The 3rd from
Karakamsha should also be similarly considered.

BP 33-57. If a malefic gives an aspect to or occupies the 9th from Karakamsha, one will be attached
to his religion in boyhood, but will take to falsehood in old age.

cause harm to his profession and deprive him of paternal bliss.
BP 33-71. If the 12th from Karakamsha is vacant, then also good effects (in respect of expenses) will
follow.
BP 33-80. Mercury placed alone in the 4th or the 5th from Karakamsha will make one an ascetic of
the highest order or an ascetic holding staff.
BP 33-84. While Mercury in the 5th from Karakamsha will make him skilful in Karma Mimansa (one

Classics : Curses & Evils
Childlessness / No Male Issue
SA 83-21. There will be no male issue as a result of the curse of the father in the previous birth,
if at birth of the native the lord of the 10th is in the 6th, the 8th, or the 12th, Jupiter is in a malefic
sign and the lord of ascendant and the 5th are associated with malefics.
SA 83-26. To get deliverance from the curse of the father the remedial measures are: (l)
Performance of Shraddha at Gaya; (2) to feed ten thousand, one thousand, or 100 Brahmins, as one
can afford; (3) Kanyadana (to perform the marriage of a girl other than your own daughter); (4)
giving a cow in charity.
