The seven and a half year period during which Saturn transits in the twelfth, first and second
houses from the birth rashi (Moon sign) is called the Sadhesati of Saturn.

Your birth rashi is Leo therefore the period during which Saturn transits in
Cancer, Leo and Virgo is called Sadhesati of Saturn
One Sadhesati is made up of three periods of approximately two and half years each, because
Saturn travels in one rashi for two and half years.

3. Gems and Metals
On Saturday, wear an iron ring made from the bottom of a boat or a horse's bridle in the middle
finger.
4. Vratta (Fasting)
Observe Vratta on Saturdays. Worship Lord Saturn with kavacha, stotra and mantra. It is beneficial
torecite the Saturday Vratta Katha. On the day of Vratta, consume milk, curd and fruit juice during
day time and in the evening pay visit to the temple of Lord Hanuman or Bhairavji. Take sweet halwa
(sweet dish) made of Urad pulse or salted Khichari (dish prepared from rice and Urad pulse boiled
together).
5. Medicine
Every Saturday bathe with surma, black sesame seeds, saunf (anise), nagarmotha (the sweet smelling
grass Cyperus) and lodha (the tree Symploce racemoze).
6. Donation
To appease Lord Saturn, donate urad (a type of pulse), oil, sapphire, sesame seeds, kulathi (a horse
bean), buffalo, iron, money and black clothes.
7. Other Remedies
(a) Wrap a raw cotton thread seven times round a peepal tree (the holy fig tree) on a Saturday
evening and recite the mantra for Saturn. Light a lamp with mustard oil under the tree and seek
forgiveness for any misdeed done knowingly or unknowingly in the past.
(b) Measure a black thread equal to 19 times the length of your hand and wear it like a garland.
(c) Ruse: On Saturday bury in an un-tilled place a sweet made of urad pulse, sesame, oil and
jaggery.
(d) For the appeasement of Saturn, on a Saturday wear the tail of a Scorpion wrapped in a black
thread.

Results of Sadhesati

Since ancient times, there has been a general belief among the masses that the Sadhesati of Saturn is
usually painful and problematic from the mental, physical and financial point of view. The moment
people hear about Sadhesati of Saturn, they get worried and fearful. During the Sadhesati of Saturn the
person may experience laziness, mental stress, disputes, problems due to ailments and enemies, losses
due to theft and fire and death of elders in the family might occur.

In other words, when Saturn in transit is in the fourth or eighth house from the Moon sign, it is a
period for illness, quarrels with brothers, foreign stay, hardships and anxiety. During Sadhesati, Saturn
in the first or second house causes ailments related to the head, heart and legs, fear from the wicked
and hardships for sons and cattle.
In general experience it is not seen that the entire period of seven and half years is painful. In fact,
during Sadhesati, some auspicious events may still occur like, marriage, birth of children, promotion at
work, business, victory in election and foreign travel.

Results of the Dhayya of Sadhesati
It has been generally seen that out of the three Dhayyas of Sadhesati, one gives
nauspicious results. This can be decided according to the number of auspicious lines found
in the Ashtaka and Sarvashtaka Varga of Saturn. Saturn gives mixed results when Saturn
has 4 points in the Ashtakavarga and 28 points in the Sarvashtaka Varga. If the points
exceed this number the results are auspicious and if they fall below this number they are
inauspicious. If in the birth horoscope, Saturn is strong(exalted or placed in own rashi) or
it is a Yogakaraka or it is the lord of the Rashi then the bad effects for the person are

Mangala Dosha or Kuja Dosha occurs when Mars is placed in the first, second,
fourth,seventh,eighth or twelfth house from the Birth Lagna.

According to some ancient rishis, Mangala dosha also occurs when Mars is placed in the first,
second, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth house from the Moon, Venus and the seventh lord.

Remedies to Repel Mangala Dosha


To ward off the effects of Mangala Dosha following are recommended –
• One should fast on Tuesdays (sunrise to next day sunrise). During the day consume liquid drinks
without salt like tea, coffee, milk, fruit juice and curd. In the evening, draw a triangle with red kumkum
(roli) on a plate and worship with Panchopachara [red sandalwood, red flowers, incense (dhoop), lighted
lamp and food consecrated to a deity]. Thereafter, only before sunset, one may consume wheat bread,
ghee and jaggery (unrefined cane sugar).
• If the Mangalik Dosha is pronounced then the Mangala Chandika Strotra should be recited daily
for 21 times for 108 consecutive days. In the morning hours one should sit facing the eastern direction,
light a five stroked lamp and worship one's deity (Ishta) and the planet Mars (Mangala) with
Panchopachara and then recite the following –

To derive the best effects of a gem, begin to wear it after cleansing it in fresh milk and
rinsing it in purified water. Then, holding and concentrating on the gem, perform the mantra
given 108 times.

Gems should generally be worn on the right for men and the left for women. Gems may be
worn either on the appropriate finger as a ring, or on the upper arm as a bangle. Alternately the
gem can be worn around the neck, but this has the disadvantage of the gem swinging and not

present, there is physical pain and If Venus is present one will have an eye problem. If Moon

Effects of the 1st house (Tanu Bhava)


Indications of first house: physique, appearance, intellect (or the organ of intelligence, i.e. brain),
complexion of the body, vigour, weakness, happiness, grief, and innate nature are all to be guessed
through the ascending sign.

BP 12-1. Physical comforts: Should the ascendant lord be conjunct with a malefic or be in 6th,
8th or 12th house, physical felicity will diminish.

BP 12-1. If the ascendant lord is in debilitation, combustion, or enemy's sign, there will be
diseases.

BP 12-1. Ascendant lord with a benefic in an angle or trine, all diseases will disappear.

BP 12-1. Angles from the ascendant (i.e. 4th, 7th, or l0th house) or its trine (5th, 9th) containing
a benefic is a powerful remedy for all related to health.

BP 17-2. Relatives Affected: The significator of a relative or the lord of such a house joining lord of
the 6th house, or being in 6th, or 8th house, indicates ulcers/bruises to such a relative like father. The
Sun with such lordship and in such a house denotes such affectation of head, the Moon denotes such
affection of the face, Mars denotes such affection of the neck, Mercury denotes such affection of the
navel, Jupiter denotes such affection of the nose, Venus denotes such affection of the eyes, Saturn
denotes such affection of the feet, and Rahu and Ketu denote such affection of the abdomen.

BP 17-3. If the Sun is the lord of 6th house, or is with lord of the 6th house, or is in 6th, or 8th house,
the native will be apt to incur affliction of head, and so on and so forth.

BP 17-12. Loss through Enemies: Loss of wealth will come to pass during the 31st year if 11th and
6th lords exchange their signs.

BP 24-70. If lord of the 6th house is in 10th house, the native will be well known among his men, will
not be respectfully disposed to his father and will be happy in foreign countries. He will be a gifted
speaker.

SA 30-30. Mars in the 6th house: If Mars occupies the 6th house, the native will be highly
libidinous, will have powerful digestive fire, be beautiful, tall, strong, and great among his relatives.

SA 30-79. Saturn in the 6th house: If Saturn occupies the 6th house, the native will be very
licentious, be beautiful, courageous, will eat abundantly, be crooked and will conquer many of his

Raja Yogas

SA 35-2. According to Yavanas, if only malefics are exalted, the native will become a king indulging
in cruel deeds. But as per Jeevasharma, such planets will make one valorous but not a king. One with
such a Yoga (according to Kalyanavarma) will be honored and will become the head of a region.

SA 39-5. Even if a single planet gives an aspect to the natal ascendant or Hora ascendant or Ghatika

SA 40-9. If the Arudh of 9th house happens to be itself the birth ascendant, or if Atma Karaka is

Combinations for Wealth

SA 41-22. Lords of angles and Konas Related: The angles are known as Vishnu Sthanas (i.e. houses
of Lord Vishnu), while the Konas are called Lakshmi Sthanas (i.e. houses of Lakshmi). If the lord of an
angle establishes a relationship with the lord of a trine, a Raja Yoga is obtained. (A sixth kind of
relationship can also be extended in this context to Navamsha positions though there is no specific
classic sanction for this. For example in the case of a Capricorn native, Mars in the Navamsha of Venus,
and Venus in the Navamsha of Mars will confer a superior Raja Yoga. This form of relationship will be

BP 33-46. While he will be indolent if a benefic is in the 6th from Karakamsha. The 3rd from

BP 33-57. If a malefic gives an aspect to or occupies the 9th from Karakamsha, one will be attached
to his religion in boyhood, but will take to falsehood in old age.

BP 33-64. A malefic giving an aspect to the 10th from Karakamsha or occupying this house will
cause harm to his profession and deprive him of paternal bliss.

BP 33-71. If the 12th from Karakamsha is vacant, then also good effects (in respect of expenses) will
follow.

BP 33-80. Mercury placed alone in the 4th or the 5th from Karakamsha will make one an ascetic of
the highest order or an ascetic holding staff.

BP 33-84. While Mercury in the 5th from Karakamsha will make him skilful in Karma Mimansa (one

Classics : Curses & Evils

Childlessness / No Male Issue

SA 83-21. There will be no male issue as a result of the curse of the father in the previous birth,
if at birth of the native the lord of the 10th is in the 6th, the 8th, or the 12th, Jupiter is in a malefic
sign and the lord of ascendant and the 5th are associated with malefics.
SA 83-26. To get deliverance from the curse of the father the remedial measures are: (l)
Performance of Shraddha at Gaya; (2) to feed ten thousand, one thousand, or 100 Brahmins, as one
can afford; (3) Kanyadana (to perform the marriage of a girl other than your own daughter); (4)
giving a cow in charity.
By observing these remedial measures, the person concerned becomes free from the curse and

SA 9-50. Evils to Father: Should the Sun receive an aspect from one or more malefics or be
hemmed between them, this will cause evils to father.

SA 9-52. Evils to Father: Malefics in the 6th, the 8th, or the 4th from the Sun will bring

Antidotes for Evils

SA 10-2. Should one among Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus be in an angle from ascendant, all
evils are destroyed as the Sun eliminates darkness.

SA 10-5. All evils are destroyed if a benefic aspectes ascendant of one born during the night in
