women work too. Families used to be crowded and a lot of families lived at home together. The
child number was more than today. There used to be blind marriage so like blind date in America.

UNIT 5

What are the similarities and differences between American table manners and
table manners in your country?

In my country, table manners and American table manners have many similarities.
For example; before eating, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands. During the meal,
it is impolite to eat noisily. Do not smack your lips when you eat. If you sneeze, turn
away from table and sneeze into your napkin. Do not talk with others at the table if
your mouth is full of food.

Which American manners do you find strangest? Why?

I didn't find any American manners strange. I think, these manners are normal. We
have the same table manners. That is why, people do not judge you while you eat,
not as much as they do in America .

How important are good table manners in your country?

Correct table manners are important in my country. If you have bad table manners, it
might hurt your chances of doing business or earning favor with someone. Good
manners, on the other hand, earn favor and respect.

What advice would you give to a foreigner about using good table manners in
your country?

I think, good table manners are same everywhere. If I have to say something to a
foreigner, I would tell her/him these rules; before eating be sure to thoroughly wash
your hands. Do not smack your lips as you eat. When you drink, do not make
slurping noises. Do not burp, but if you accidentally burp, say excuse me. If you
sneeze, turn away from table and sneeze into your napkin. Do not talk with others at
the table if your mouth is full of food.

1. What are some famous places in your city?

Ankara has many famous places. For instance; Anıtkabir, Atakule, Kızılay downtown,
Tunalı street, Ulus downtown, Ankara Castle, etc. Firstly, go to Anıtkabir and visit Atatürk.
From there, head towards Kızılay and wander around a bit. Then go to Tunalı street, walk a
little and have coffee at any cafe. Later on, go to Ankara castle, it's a very nice place to take
pictures. Then go to Ulus downtown and do some shopping. Finally, go to Atakule and have
dinner there. Don't worry, it's very easy because everywhere is close to each other. Take the
bus and tell me where you want to go.

All of these places are very close to each other. Anıtkabir is in the west of the city, Atakule
is in the south of the city, Ulus and Ankara castle are in the north of the city, in the

There are two places I want to visit in New York; The Statue of Liberty and the Empire

chimneys will fascinate you. When you go to south, the deep blue sea and beaches will
welcome you, and warm weather, warm people and good foods are waiting for you.
Mountains, forests and beaches, as well as all kinds of history buildings are all available in
this area. Whether you like natural wonders or manmade ones, Turkey has something for
everyone.
