 Tel Tel satirically paints the Parliament of Owls as corrupt. She points out that with

them, anything is possible, that they can even be planning for a trip to the stars.

 Red String is arrogant. He tells Osogo that the owls are above the law. They will make

the laws and break them.

 Red String humorously says that the moonlight tax can even be considered a tithe, which

Falcon will take to the gods during his next visit.

 Tel Tel is firm; Red String cannot convince her to spread propaganda to the birds.

 Red String is intimidating; he threatens Tel Tel with death for her refusal to spread

propaganda for the Royal Owl.

Arum Tidi enters, and Tel Tel wants to know what he is doing there. He ignores her and asks

Red String what is going on. Red String sees that he has got an option for the bird he can

use to spread the propaganda about the moonlight bill, which is supposed to be passed. He

appreciates the presence of Arum Tidi, albeit not sincerely. He tells him that the Royal Owl

always passes his regards to Arum Tidi.

Arum Tidi is enthralled and asks Red String what kind of song he should sing. He arrogantly

boasts of blowing his own trumpet. Tel Tel is disgusted by Arum Tidi's arrogance and makes

Arum Tidi brags that he had advised Red String to avoid engaging the small birds like Tel

Tel, but instead, he should trust his fellow night birds. Red String jumps in and agrees that

he should have listened to Arum Tidi, but he had to engage the day bird because the

Parliament wanted to reach out to all birds, and that could only have been done through Tel

Tel. He says, unlike the rogue Oyundi, Tel Tel appealed to the emotions of the day birds, and

they tended to listen to her. Tel Tel warned the other birds of danger by hammering the

trees.

Arum Tidi suggests that for Red String to succeed in propagating his propaganda, he needs

to deal with the hammering done by Tel Tel. Red String is interested to know he can go about

it. Arum Tidi offers him solutions. He suggests that he can ban the hammering, to ban the

making of noise from hammering. Alternativel, he could introduce a fee to conserve the

environment, which is to be paid by any bird that wants to do the hammering. Another

solution Arum Tidi gives is that Red String could as well arrest Tel Tel so that she could not

counter propagandas they push their agenda.

Red String is not comfortable with how he can come to arrest Tel Tel, as he does not find

his backing in the law. Arum Tidi tells him to accuse Tel Tel of noise pollution, and if there

is no such item in the law, he should sneak it into their laws. Red String commends Arum Tidi

for his cleverness but points out that that same noise pollution law may also affect Arum

Tidi. Arum Tidi is quick to suggest that he should be made an employee of the Parliament.

He is exempted from following this law, an indication that the members of this Parliament

make these laws but make exceptions for themselves such that they can break the same

laws that they make. Red String agrees that that can be looked into.

Arum Tidi then asks about that law that Red String wants to sell to the birds. He is informed

that it shall be called the moonlight Bill, and by dawn, it would have become the Moonlight

Law. He says that it can also be called Money Bags law because Money Bags sponsor it.

Arum Tidi is interested to know what is in for him after undertaking the task. He is promised

a rat every night. He suggests that they should be two every night. However, Red String

 The nature and amount of payment that arum Tidi is to get is only between him and Red

String.

 Arum Tidi is arrogant. He boastfully says that he does not sing but blow his trumpet. He

is also intelligent as he discovers ways in which hammering on trees can be stopped. He

says that hammering can be considered noise pollution or a tax be introduced so that

anyone who wants to do hammering pays the same. This tax will deter any bird from

hammering.

 Red String is corrupt. He bribes Arum Tidi with a rat every night for seven nights to

make him spread propaganda about the moonlight bill.

 Arum Tidi is secretive. He tells Red String that whatever they have discussed should

remain a secret. He is also corruptible. He accepts a bribe of one rat a night from Red

String.

 Red String is deceitful. He wants to spread lies about Tel Tel that she had agreed to

work for the owls in spreading propaganda, but only backed out when the pay was little, a

thing Tel Tel had not agreed to do. Red String is also boastful as he says there is nothing

Tel Tel can do to him as he is the one who has instruments of power.

 Arum Tidi uses a proverb, saying, "Old is always Gold." Arum Tidi foreshadows his death

by saying that the terms Red String has given him are terminal conditions, signaling an

end.

 Ironically, Red String says that the Moonlight Bill will change the Kingdom for the
better, yet it causes more suffering to the birds.

Money Bags removes the Speaker's wig to contribute in Parliament as Money Bags. He calls

the Speaker for a point of information to Socialite Owl to understand that they have a

very important bill, the moonlight bill, which is to be passed this day. He informs Socialite

Owl that she should just call him if she needs makeup, and he will deliver by evening.

The Speaker then thanks Money Bags for coming in handy to save the situation. Socialite

Owl thanks Money Bags for the successful passing of the bill, which takes care of them.

The bill enables them to have more fried rats, baked mice, honey, and mayonnaise. She adds

that even the rebel owls joined in the passing of that bill. Feathered Beak says that they

believe in justice, which ensures that everyone gets what is due to them. He says the bill

passed will compensate them well. The Speaker also commends Feathered Beak together

with Iron Lady and other owls on the same. Iron Lady comes and reminds Socialite Owl that

there is a time for a ceasefire where food water is served in a war, and the wounded are

catered for. She says this about them, the rebel owls who supported the passed bill.

The Speaker allows the debate on the moonlight bill to begin. Iron Lady says they are ready

to defeat agents of backwardness and dictatorship in the Kingdom. She is called to order by

the Speaker.

Money Bags stands on the point of order and accuses lron Lady and other rebel Owls as being

criminal and should clearly state to whose behalf they are acting. He urges Mr Speaker to

lock noisemakers out of Parliament so that they do not play around with the members of

Parliament. Money Bags points out that they worked hard as Owls to make sure the reign of

Royal Owl was smooth and eternal. He further adds that Royal Owl has made it possible for

the owls to eat fried rats every night, baked mice, and a bowlful of grasshoppers every night.

He says the rebel owls are ungrateful, trouble makers, and noisemakers; they should not be

allowed in the house of Parliament. He says the only thing they do is a hoot, and hoot and

hoot.

Straight-Eyed starts to speak without the Speaker's permission and says that they hoot

and hoot to make noise for the rebels, but the other loyal owls loot, loot, and loot. They

misappropriate the resources. She leaves the house in much laughter when she humorously

Iron Lady is infuriated with the Speaker, who is proud that the Royal Owls eat lizards every

night, yet other birds cannot find water and fly kilometres to find water. Feathered Beak

reiterates that Mr. speaker is unfair and therefore out of order.

Socialite Owl says that Feathered Beak has been out of his mind since the session. Iron

Lady feels that the Parliament should uplift the dignity of the Kingdom, but Socialite Owl

is an embarrassment and therefore should leave the house.

Mr. speaker gets fed up with the sentiments of Iron Lady and informs her that she would

not have a chance to vote in Parliament. He orders the throwing out of Iron Lady from

parliament house. Socialite Owl is helped with Red String to drag Iron Lady from the floor

of Parliament and throws her out of the chambers. Feathered Beak and Straight-Eyed

protest this action.

Socialite Owl congratulates Mr. Speaker for the decision to throw Iron Lady out of the

chambers. Money Bags also comes in to thank Mr. Speaker for dealing with the Iron Lady,

whom she refers to as drunk and deranged. He says the decision is Solomonic. Feathered

Beak and straight-eyed shake their heads in disapproval.

Feathered Beak raises a complaint that Money Bags with his girlfriend have stifled their

attempt to genuinely discuss the moonlight bill, which affects the lives of birds in the

Kingdom.

The Speaker asks Feathered Beak what his problem is, yet he earns a salary. Feathered

Beak refutes that her salary has got nothing to do with the bill currently on the floor being

discussed. Money Bags castigates Feathered Beak for not having protested when a bill saw

an increase in their compensation from one fried rat to three a day, frog soup, and baked

mice with honey and mayonnaise.

Straight-eyed defended their position then on that bill, which increased their compensation,

saying they deserved the increase. However, she adds tha Money Bags with his sycophants

do not deserve even an uncooked rat's tail.

Money Bags feels that the Owls opposing the moonlight bill are only jealous because they

will not benefit from the tax collected from the exercise as it will go to the Royal Trees.

work as cooks in the Royal Kitchen. She says Money Bags is an embarrassment, while Red

String and others from the string family are just puppets of Money Bags.

 Selfishness is displayed by members of Parliament who pass a bill that increases their

salaries while other birds lack enough food. Socialite Owl thanks Money Bags for the

successful passing of the bill, which takes care of them. The bill enables them to have

more fried rats, baked mice, honey, and mayonnaise. She adds that even the rebel owls

joined in the passing of that bill when it was discussed. Money Bags castigates Feathered

Beak for not having protested when a bill saw an increase in their compensation from one

fried rat o three a day, frog soup, and baked mice with honey and mayonnaise.

 Intolerance is also brought out. The rebel owls, such as Iron Lady, point out the

moonlight bill's shortcomings, but Mr. speaker gets fed up with her sentiments and

informs her that she would not have a chance to vote in the Parliament. He orders that

she be thrown out of parliament house. Socialite Owl is helped with Red String to drag

Iron Lady from the floor of Parliament and throws her out of the chambers.

 Another issue is conflict between the Royal Owls loyal to King Tula and rebel owls such as

Feathered Beak, Iron Lady, among others. The loyal owls have to ensure the bills brought

in the house are passed as expected, while rebel owls are against the mere passage of

the bills without interrogating how such will affect other birds in general in the Kingdom.

On the house floor, the conflict sees Iron Lady thrown out of Parliament for opposing

the moonlight bill. She leaves the house in much laughter when she humorously adds that.

 Money Bags finds beauty in hurling insults at owls that have greater thinking capacity
than the entire kitchen cabinet of Royal Owl. The Speaker asks Straight-Eyed to
withdraw her statement as her reference to the Kitchen cabinet as mentally
incapacitated is treasonous. Straight-Eyed stands her ground and tells the Speaker that
she cannot allow herself to be bullied and she will not withdraw the statement for no
apparent reason. She chooses to differ from the Speaker.
 Straight-Eyed mentions of corruption, she says that they hoot and hoot for the rebels,

making noise to be heard on pertinent issues, but the other loyal owls loot, loot, and loot.

They misappropriate the resources.

 Dictatorship and forceful passage of bills are the day's order in the Parliament of Owls.

Feathered Beak the speaker that he is unfair, yet he is expected to speak and give

guidance with full authority as the speaker at that critical moment. However, he seems

to have many faces. Feathered Beak and the others want Royal Owl, or he is just

speaking on behalf of the beaks that keep hooting and looting from the most remote

trees to the most royal. She says they are ready to defeat the moonlight bill to protect

all the birds, omnivores, grain-eaters, day birds, and night birds. The Speaker does not

listen to them. Dictatorship and abuse of office are straightforward when Mr. Speaker

forcefully locks Feathered Beak from contributing to the motion on the floor.

 Socialite Owl s is stubborn and petty. She interrupts, questioning why the makeup bill

for the female owls had not been included in the day's session. She complains that the

wind has become a nuisance where it sweeps makeup from their faces leaving them with

naked faces.

 Money Bags arrogantly says that they will not allow rebel owls to play around with

members of the honourable house. He is also dictatorial. He urges Mr. Speaker to make

harsh decisions to lock noisy rebel owls out of Parliament.

 Straight-eyed says that Money Bags is incompetent, as he likes hurling insults to those

who have greater thinking capacity than him.

 Iron Lady is persistent; she criticises the moonlight bill and how the Parliament is

conducting business. She does not stop.

 Money Bags role plays the Speaker of Parliament of Owls.

 The author satirises Money Bags, Socialite Owl andRed String; when the three could

not comprehend the meaning of Ex-cathedra, it paints how illiterate they are.

 Socialite Owl also uses a simile; "owls cannot be as cowardly as chicken."

 There is biblical allusion when Money Bags tells the Speaker that he has Solomonic

wisdom after Iron Lady is thrown out of the Parliament.

Black String enters, walks straight to Money Bags, and whispers something to him, leaving

Money Bags disturbed. Money Bags announces that they have received reliable information

that Feathered Beak, together with other rebel owls, have incited other birds against the

Moonlight Bill, which has resulted in a commotion in the bird Kingdom. The birds are planning

to demonstrate against the moonlight Bill outside the Parliament, a moonlight protest.

Mr. speaker urges Money Bags to fast track the passing of the moonlight bill in record time

to make it be law before the demonstration by the birds. He urges the owls to vote in favour

of the bill. The Royal Trees sponsor the bill, and its passage will see the loyal owls rewarded

with a meal of fried rats and frogs and maybe a piece of the cunning bird. The passage of

the bill will also please the Royal Owl.

Money Bags praises the Speaker as the best the house has ever had. Feathered Beak

disagrees with the way the Speaker is conducting the business of the house. Mr. speaker

shuts him down and declares that the debate is closed and the bill is to be voted for. The

voting is done by acclamation, and the ayes carry the day.

allegations. He asks Money Bags to shed light on the same. Money Bags rebuffs the

allegations and says there is no iota of truth in what has been said. However, the rebel owls

are liars and only accuse the Royal Trees of Corruption and theft because they did not get

a chance to be in the cabinet and therefore resorted to fighting the Royal Owl.

Iron Lady disagrees and says that Money Bags is drunk with power Money Bags says he

cannot take that lying down. Feathered Beak mocks him to do it upside down like his friend

Olik Tiga, the bat. Mr. speaker is infuriated by the Feathered Beak, and he takes up the role

of the sergeant at arms. With Socialite Owl and Red String, they gang up and throw the

rebel owls out of Parliament. Loyal owls celebrate.

OBSERVATIONS
 The Parliament is still in session, and many intrigues involve passing the moonlight bill.

The birds in the Kingdom are tired with the Parliament of Owls for their continued

passage of bills which are only favourable to the Royal Owls. The birds decide to plan a

demonstration against the moonlight bill outside the Parliament before it is passed into

law. The Speaker rushes the bill's passage despite protests and objections from the

rebel owls in the Parliament. The royal, loyal owls and the Speaker bulldoze the passage

of the moonlight bill at their behest.

 Individualism and greed are brought through the members of Parliament who pass a bill

that increased their compensation from one fried rat a day to three fried rats a day, yet

other birds in the Kingdom are hunger-stricken.

 Corruption is rampant in the Parliament of Owls. The owls are bribed to support and vote

in favour of the passage of the moonlight bill. The Royal Trees sponsor the bill and in so

doing, they will be rewarded with of the cunning bird. Iron Lady adds that the new law is

a ploy by Money Bags to loot funds from the coffers of the birds and channel them to his

private investments in unknown trees in deep forests. She adds that by passing the

Moonlight Law, the Parliament of Owls has licensed theft and robbery with violence in

the Kingdom.

 It is injustice as Money Bags tells Feathered Beak to seek redress from the courts if he

is unsatisfied with the just-passed Moonlight Law. Nevertheless, the same courts are

controlled by Money Bags and are manned by vultures appointed by Money Bags and are in

his payroll; therefore, they cannot give a verdict against Money Bags and Parliament of

Owls. He adds that they are aware of the plans to kill all the birds, including himself, who

have chosen to ensure good governance in the Kingdom.

 Hypocrisy is evident through Money Bags, who labels rebel owls as corrupt, hypocritical

and full of impunity. At the same time, ironically, he exemplifies everything corruption in

the Kingdom; he is known to grab all trees in the Kingdom and even plans to get money

from the Moonlight Law tax, which he will go to invest himself. He is also hypocritical as

he leads in spreading propaganda about the moonlight bill, yet he lies outright about its

supposed benefits to the birds.

 Birds who are tired with the Parliament of Owls, plan revolution and rebellion against the

members of parliament who are out to pass that bill. Feathered Beak, together with

other rebel owls, is said to have incited other birds against the Moonlight Bill, which has

resulted in a commotion in the bird Kingdom. The birds are planning to demonstrate

against the moonlight Bill outside the Parliament, a moonlight protest.

 Money Bags abuses his office is by trying to use the law to loot funds from the coffers

of the birds and channel them to his private investments in unknown trees in deep

forests. Iron Lady adds that by passing the Moonlight Law, the Parliament of Owls has

licensed theft and robbery with violence in the Kingdom.

Money Bags suggests that they plan a grand homecoming party and tells Red String to get

in touch with Black String and Green String and enlist the services of Arum Tidi in controlling

the other birds to get him to spread the word about the homecoming party. Arum Tidi is

seen to be greedy for money and foolish at the same time. He said to take anything that he

to gag him and finally send him to the gallows. Money Bags says they have to dispense with

Arum Tidi because he knows too much, and therefore whatever he has been helping the owls

set up will be used to finish him.

hornbill, yet it is the same law that will injure them. It is typical of him and his fellow

hornbills who will fight their reflection in the water, thinking it is another hornbill.

Socialite Owl questions how the hornbills will run the Kingdom as they believe they can work

closely with the owls to bring the unity of night birds and the omnivores. Money Bags says

the hornbill are so ignorant, which is why they are paid peanuts for the services rendered.

Money Bags suggests that if Arum Tidi jokes around, they will take him to the Water Stone

point at the river so that he attacks his reflection and hurt himself. Socialite Owl laughs

uncontrollably and leaves.

OBSERVATIONS
 Money Bags and Red String plan to hold a homecoming party and use Arum Tidi to spread

information about that homecoming party. When that is done, they will do away with him,

for he knows too much about what the Royal Owls have done. They plan to throw Arum

Tidi to the gallows, and if it comes to worse, they will kill him. This treatment of Arum

Tidi is a clear picture of how politicians and persons in positions of power use others to

advance their agenda, more so not so good deals, end up severing ties with them or even

killing them to tie loose ends.

 It is dictatorship as Red String, and Money Bags plan to deal with the rebel owls who

seem to be a thorn in their flesh for criticising the poor running of the Parliament. Red

String tells Money Bags that the rebel owls should be dealt with and be shown where

they belong, and in agreement, Socialite Owl says that will prevent them from

undermining the Parliament. They fear being challenged or their weaknesses being

brought out.

 Arum Tidi is seen to be greedy for money and foolish at the same time. He is a

representation of greed. He is said to take anything that he is given. He is hungry and

desperate, and he will do anything that he is told to impress. This attribute makes it easy

for Money Bags to use him to spread propaganda, among other tasks.

 Cruelty is advanced by Money Bags, who says they will use Arum Tidi in their mission to

control the birds, and when that is done, they will dump him. They will quietly cut links

with him, then use the Moonlight Law to gag him and finally send him to the gallows.

 Money Bags says they have to dispense with Arum Tidi because he knows too much, and

therefore whatever he has been helping the owls set up will be used to finish him. They

discuss more that they may even kill him if it comes to that. Money Bags and his cronies

do not give a damn about the essence of life. They do not even reward those who work

for them to advance their agenda. These actions qualify as a great deal of cruelty and

selfishness.

 It is also betrayal for Money Bags to want to use Arum Tidi to control the birds, and

when that is done, they dump him. They will quietly cut links with him, then use the

Moonlight Law to gag him and finally send him to the gallows or even kill him. Money bag

is dishonest. He only wants to use Arum Tidi to spread rumours, promising to reward him,

but he plans to kill him behind his back.

 Arum Tidi is too trusting. He believes in everything Money Bags promises him, in terms of

rewards, and allow himself to be used against other birds. He simply believes and trusts

that Money Bags can make him an employee of the Parliament of Owls so that he can also

be exempted in the Moonlight Law.

 Money Bags is humorous. He says that Arum Tidi will attack his reflection like a clown

when taken to the water point. He is also domineering. He is in control of every section of

the Kingdom.

 There is the use of a song; the birds sing their song of freedom, "we the birds, we fly so

high.."

 Through a simile Money Bags says that victory songs are never composed; they just come

like strong winds.

Red String inquires on who is to compose songs for their victory, as he was thinking of

contracting youthful birds who will do the composing and sing to the King and the Parliament.

However, Money Bags tells him that victory songs are never composed, but they just come

by themselves. He reminds him of the victory song after the struggle against Lion Kingdom.

The song whose title was. "I believe I can fly."

Red String sings, and Money Bags join him. Red String jokes that Money Bags could have

been born in the weaver bird clan, for he sings well.

Red String then mentions that he met Osogo at the riverbank singing banned songs in the

Kingdom. Songs reminded Red String of the dark days, days of their pains and sorrows.

Money Bags is concerned. He wants to know the songs that Osogo is singing as he might be

Moonlight Law shall deal with the birds like Osogo and Oyundi.

Distant sounds of a bird are heard, and it distracts Money Bags. Red String says it must be

Arum Tidi. Money Bags wants to know what Arum Tidi could be singing. Red String lies he

can hear him well, praising the Royal Owl and their Parliament. Arum Tidi has come closer,

and Red String hears him well.

He says Arum Tidi is singing that all birds can fly, this disturbs Money Bags, but Red String

assures him that Arum Tidi is only creative in passing the message. Money Bags relaxes the

feeling that Arum Tidi's creativity probably means that all the birds are united and stronger.

He moreover thinks he could be narrating their stories through the songs. Hesays music is

powerful; it soothes, smoothens, ignites, and even empowers minds. Red String agrees.

Money Bags sarcastically adds that music conquers too. Alternatively, maybe Arum Tidi is

telling the night birds to welcome the Moonlight Law for posterity. Red String agrees to

everything Money Bags says, just as he is a puppet. Moreover, he adds more that he knows

how to package his message.

Money Bags, in turn around, says that Arum Tidi could be convincing the night birds or

confusing them. Nevertheless, he has concluded that whatever Arum Tidi is doing, he acts

against their interests. Red String is shocked by that assertion.

Money Bags points out that Arum Tidi is singing a freedom song when the birds plan a

demonstration and a struggle for freedom against the Loyal owls. To him, that does not make

sense.

Money Bags blames Red String for contracting Arum Tidi, but Red String says it was Black

String's idea, and he assured him that Arum Tidi would do as instructed. Money Bags informs

him that he has failed, and it is now time to deal with Arum Tidi, to silence him. He instructs

Red String to look for One-Eyed and then pick Arum Tidi, take him to the Water Stone

Point, and leave him there.

Black String enters, panting and looking confused. He confirms that Arum Tidi is singing the

freedom song and speaking in coded language while hornbills fly from tree to tree, going

deeper into the valley and back up in the hills. He says there is trouble in the Kingdom and

does not trust the hornbills. Money Bags orders Red String to move quickly and get One-

Eyed. Black String attempts to blame Red String, but Money Bags stops him and tells him to

stop the blame game. He wants to know how bad the situation is.

Black String says he has gathered from the Police Owl that night birds are planning a

demonstration at the Parliament or the Royal Trees, a protest against the Moonlight Law,

and several laws passed earlier. They say the Parliament only serves the owls.

Money Bags says they will not allow any demonstrations, which he considers illegal, in the

streets, in the air, or on the tress.

Blacks string asks what the way forward is; Money Bags explains that they will lie low to

make their enemies believe that they are retreating. That they should sing peace songs as

they plan to ambush. He adds that they should dance to the songs of their enemies to give

them the impression that they are ready to listen to them when they are waiting to maim

them.

In anger, he says that the little birds do not know that they can be turned into mice meat

for breakfast, all their eggs could be swallowed, and they are wiped out overnight, and the

Kingdom would not stop running. Life will continue. He says that it is their Kingdom and their

Parliament, and therefore he wants to hear nothing about demonstrations.

Black String asks for the way forward. Money Bags suggests that they can still use the

vultures and the crows. However, Black String says it may not be possible, for they had

short-changed the vultures and grabbed the sacred tree from the crows and displaced ten

families of crows, then converted it into their secret tower of surveillance controlled One-

Eyed and Money Bags’ son.

Birds are heard chanting anti-owl slogans from a distance. Money Bags is insensitive says he

does not care about the crows and their displacement.

Black String concurs that owls do not care about crows. Money Bags tells Black String to

get Fleshy Carcass. He should also get Tel Tel and double their offer of remuneration to

him so that she spreads information today about birds and grain eaters to support that law.

He says Tel Tel should know the order is from Money Bags’ seat, and if she does not do as

instructed, she will be killed.

Black String is worried by the birds singing. Money Bags tells him to get Olik Tiga and the

Bat army so that they may provide security to the Parliament and the Royal Trees. Black

String points out that the bats are blind and cannot see whomever they are to deal with. On

the contrary, Money Bags says that bats are simply blind to sympathy and blind to the

whining of the birds. They are also blind to the moonlight, which will make the bats deal with

the ill-mannered birds properly.

Black String says they must protect the Royal Owl and the Parliament. Money Bags says they

should rather die than see the Parliament go to the clueless birds.

String says that Oyundi has not been seen in public since the previous evening, and no one

knows her whereabouts. He says that previous Oyundi was heard of the last time she

twittered the previous day when the sun was high up in the sky. The rumours doing rounds

are that Money Bags ordered her arrest when she was seen flying in from the grasslands.

It is reported that Oyundi could have had a meeting withOgila Nyakarondo, the Hare. He

says these are rumours being spread by Ochongorio, Oyundi's friend.

Money Bags says that Oyundi is a wanted bird, dead or alive, because he has embarrassed

the King several times. He tells Black String to deal with the renegade owls, who probably

carry the exposing the weaknesses of the owls, which will help the other birds take over the

Parliament.

He says that the unwritten law in the Kingdom is survival for the fittest, and if one lacks

grit, then they do not belong to the Kingdom. Black String, another puppet owl, agrees to

everything Money Bags says.

Money Bags then orders Black String to go and deal with the renegade birds who pretend to

be courageous. He says he does not want to hear of any rebellion from the birds again. He

does not want to hear that the birds want to march to Parliament, a revered house of owls,

of the chosen few. Black String Leaves.

OBSERVATIONS
 This episode highlights how loyalty can be tested. The owls loyal to King at large. On the

other hand, the other birds are increasingly nearing demonstration against the poor

leadership, insensitiveness and betrayal of the members of Parliament of Owls. Money

Bags and his puppet owls, Red String and Black String, are attempting to do everything to

quash any rebellion that may want to arise in the Kingdom. This quashing of rebellion

reveals how the political class is always ready to defend and protect their tuff, to

whatever extent, which may include the use of disinformation, the spread of propaganda,

and intimidation of members of society who seem against the injustices in society.

Moreover, the political class can even resort to the killings of opponents if other ways

fail.

 Money Bags is insensitive and deceitful. He tells Red String to get Arum Tidi to spread

information about the homecoming party. The Royal Owl is to address all the birds at

sunset the following day at the usual venue. Furthermore, all birds must attend. However,

exploitation is highlighted as Red String suggests that they should ensure that Arum Tidi

accomplishes the task given to him, and then he should be discarded and not be paid even

a dime, not a single cent. He is to be made to stay away from the Royal Trees.

 Money Bags is cruel and shows disregard for life as he orders the killing of Arum Tidi,

who is singing freedom songs at the time when birds are planning a demonstration against

the Parliament. He says that Arum Tidi is working against the interest of the Parliament

of Owls and the interest of Royal Owl, King Tula Nyongoro, and orders Red String to

work together with One-Eyed to ensure Arum Tidi is silenced.

 Conflict arises between Money Bags, Red String and Black String, who blame each other

for the hiring of services of Arum Tidi. Arum Tidi seems to have turned against the owls,

singing freedom songs when birds are preparing for a demonstration instead of spreading

news of the homecoming ceremony tasked by Money Bags. None of the three wants to

take the blame.

 Revolution and resistance are in the offing as birds plan a demonstration at the

Parliament or the Royal Trees, a protest against the Moonlight Law, and several laws

passed earlier. They say the Parliament only serves the owls, and the birds are tired and

fed up with such actions by the Parliament, which is out to serve their selfish interests

and lead to suffering, oppression and exploitation of the birds.

 Money Bags' authoritarianism comes out as he says that Oyundi is a wanted bird, dead or

alive, because he has embarrassed the King several times. He also orders Black String to

deal with the renegade owls, who pretend to be courageous and probably carry the

secrets of the owls to the other birds. He says these rebel owls are exposing the

weaknesses of the owls, which will help the other birds take over the Parliament. Money

Bags then orders that he does not want to hear of any rebellion from the birds again. He

says that it is their Kingdom and their Parliament, and therefore he wants to hear

nothing about demonstrations. He does not want to hear that the birds want to march to

Parliament, a revered house of owls, of the chosen few.

 Red String is deceitful and enhances deceit as he lies that he can hear Arum Tidi well,

and he is praising the Royal Owl and their Parliament, only for Arum Tidi to come closer.

He is heard singing freedom songs, seemingly working against the Royal Owl and the

Parliament. Deception is also advanced as Money Bags suggests that to deal with the

rebellion from the other birds, they should lie low to make their enemies believe that

they are retreating. That they should sing peace songs as they plan to ambush. He adds

the impression that they are ready to listen to them when they are waiting to maim them.

 To quell the rebellion, Money Bags wants to enlist the help of Vultures and Crows.

However, it becomes difficult because of betrayal, which occurred when they had short-

changed the vultures by denying them the security tender. Also, they grabbed the

Money Bags slumps into the speaker's seat and starts talking to himself. He reveals how

tiresome and grueling the passing of the Moonlight Law was. He is pleased His Majesty Royal

Owl carried the day with the passing of the Moonlight Bill into Law. He says the rebel owls

rioted, thinking they could stop the bill's passing, but this law could not be defeated since

the gods chose the Royal Owl to lead the birds. He now reveals how he is the right-hand Owl

of the Royal Owl.

Money Bags brings to the fore that now the Royal is obliged to approve his request for the

tender to provide tender care to the birds, little, day and night birds. He says he will provide

his majesty with data for all the births, deaths, and eggs in the Kingdom daily.

Money Bags shows that he is scheming to have control over all the birds. He says it is all

about intelligence and power to control the birds and seize the minds of ordinary owls to

make them believe the vultures and the crows are against them. This idea will make owls feel

it is their sacred duty to protect the Parliament because it is where their security lies. It

will settle his scores with the vultures of the crows.

He adds that he will not take it lightly if the Royal Owl chooses to award the tender to one

of his mistresses. He will have to do something about it. He slouches back into the chair to

rest. He closes his eyes and falls asleep.

OBSERVATIONS
 Money Bags shows the hustle foot soldiers go through to accomplish tasks for their

masters. They sacrifice a lot. In addition, we understand that Money Bags does not

push for the passage of bills to benefit all the birds in general, but instead, he does it

for the sake of King Tula, and he also aims to benefit by being rewarded with a tender.

He fast tracks the passage of the moonlight bill so that Royal Owl, King Tula Nyongoro

can give him a tender.

 Money Bags is committed. He ensures that the moonlight bill is passed despite any

resistance from the rebel owls and other birds. The passage of the bill will please the

Royal Owl very much.

 Individualism is shown as Money Bags fast fracks passing of the bill for him to be

awarded the tender to provide tender care to birds. Money Bags is selfish; he thinks

only of how he will benefit as a bird will affect other birds.

 Deceit also comes out as Money Bags plans to pit the other owls against the vultures

and crows. He wants the other owls to believe that the vultures and the crows are

against them. This idea will make them feel it is their sacred duty to protect the

Parliament because it is where their security lies, and in extension, Money Bags will be

settling scores with the vultures and the crows.

 Money Bags is also scheming. He devises a way to have control over all the birds. He

says it is all about intelligence and power, to control the birds and seize the minds of

ordinary owls to make them believe the vultures and the crows are against them, as a

way of settling his scores with the vultures the crows. This notion will make them feel

it is their sacred duty to protect the Parliament because it is where their security lies.

Money Bags falls asleep and drifts into a dream. He is visited with various voices characters

in his dream. The first voice welcomes him into the beautiful land of slumber. He asks Money

Bags of the goings-on in the Parliament of Owls. Money Bags reveals that it is a revered

place, which is awesome but for the chosen few.

The voice reveals itself to be Oyundi. Money Bags in his dream is infuriated, calling Oyundi

a wanted and cunning bird and a criminal.

Oyundi sarcastically wants to know why he is wanted and looked at as a cunning bird. Money

Bags says that Oyundi crosses borders to go and work with the enemy of the birds and allies

of their enemies. He warns Oyundi that his time is almost up.

Oyundi says he is right inside the revered Parliament of Owls. Money Bags says that it cannot

be possible for it is not accessible to all birds, tiny birds like Oyundi but for the chosen few.

Oyundi then says that he is inside the Royal Palace and the King is asleep, and Golden Bead

is gone. Money Bags shakes his head and says the Golden Bead is a royal secret, and no bird

like a royal secret, and no bird-like Oyundi could know anything about it. Oyundi, with a burst

of evil laughter, tells Money Bags that she knows about its power and knows what it is capable

of doing. Money Bags gets worked up and tells Oyundi that he cannot threaten him since the

instruments of power lie in his hands.

Oyundi informs Money Bags that he is misleading himself by thinking that the instrument of

power is still lying in his hands. She says the birds are coming to take over the instruments

of power and create an institution that believes in the rights of all birds across the Kingdom;

day birds, night birds, grain-eaters and omnivores. He adds that they will abandon all the

laws that favoured the owls and were passed when Money Bags was in charge. He says the

Moonlight Law shall not see the light of day, while the fried frogs for the owls shall be

declared null and void.

The law that created Royal Trees, which legalized the Royal Owls' tree-grabbing habits, will

become illegal. All the loyal owls' mercenaries shall be kicked out of the Kingdom. Oyundi

says they will deal with Olik Tiga and the Python. He says they will make the Kingdom great

again.

Money Bags rubbishes Oyundi's sentiments and says it is just time before she is dealt with.

Oyundi leaves, and therein comes Osogo playing his flute. Osogo accuses Money Bags that

he is responsible for killing his people and that he should be ready to face the music. Money

Bags denies this, and while trembling, he says that the Royal Owl is responsible. Osogo leaves.

Royol Owl enters in Royal attire. He says he heard Money Bags call his name in vain. He

demands to know why. Money Bags is shaken and tries to use nicesities to please theRoyal

Owl. He calls him his majesty Tula Nyongoro, Man of every moment, Man of any moment, Man

of all moments, Man of great moments, Man of powerful moments. However, Royal Owl stops

him; he reminds him that he warned him against comparing him to man.

Royal Owl calls the man a featherless evil creature that has created much mess in the bird

Kingdom polluted rivers. He says the only birds that can praise man are the lazy hens and

maybe the sparrow who need a man to survive.

Money Bags changes the forms of his praises for the Royal Owl and now calls him his majesty

Tula Nyongoro, bird of every moment, bird of any moment, bird of all moments, bird of great

moments, bird of big moments, bird of powerful moments, bird of monumental momentum.

Royal Owl is pleased.

Royal Owl tells Money Bags that he, Money Bags is happy with the new moon. Money Bags

agrees and says that the new moon is happy with them. However, the Royal Owl contradicts

him and says that the moon is always mad. He points for Money Bags to see the muddy face

of the moon and asks Money Bags what he could see on the face of the moon. Money Bags

says he can see the cunning Hare on the face of the moon. He is probably dreaming that he

has an asylum on the moon after being kicked out of the animal Kingdom by King Lion.

Royal Owl says Hare cannot be on the moon because he has no means to reach there, for he

cannot fly. He says only birds can fly and only the owls fly highest at night. Royal Owl

continues that the birds like vultures and crows claim to be night birds but realistically they

are not. He moves closer to Money Bags and tells him the Hare is not on the face of the

moon, but Money Bags imagines things.

Money Bags stands and sleepwalks, saying he sees the Hare on the moon. Nevertheless, Royal

Owl insists that that is only in Money Bags’ mind. Money Bags agrees and says that if that is

so, then even the cunning Oyundi is also only an imagination.

Royal Owl tells him that most of their enemies are their creations in their minds. They are

just impressions. He says the birds are just birds; they are just birds whether they move

at night or in the daytime. What they eat does not matter. There are only two tribes of

birds; owls and other birds. The other tribes are enemies that owls create themselves.

Royal Owl says they create impressions by weaving conspiracy theories and propaganda and

make the impressions look real even though they are not real. He credits the gods for having

made them intelligent so that they can rule the bird Kingdom. They rule by creating ideas

and then creating impressions; for instance, they make ordinary owls believe enemies from

outside the Kingdom surround them. He says fiction always makes sense to those birds who

have experienced reality, a little bird once said.

Money Bags praises the intelligence of the Royal Owl, saying not even heavy rains can wash

it away. Royal Owl, however, says that even rains are just an idea; it does not exist. Money

Bags concurs with him that the rains do not exist and adds that the reign of owls does not

exist.

This assertion infuriates the Royal Owl who slaps Money Bags.

Royal Owl says what Money Bags just said was close to treason, but Money Bags is lucky they

are up in the clouds serving their term; otherwise, Royal Owl would have jailed him. Money

Bogs is astonished and asks if they are up at the clouds and wonders if it is not too cold up

there.

Royal Owl assures Money Bags that he cannot lie to him and asks him if he feels numb. Money

Bags says that he can feel numb, and it is freezing up there.

Osogo plays his flute again, which angers the Royal Owl who says and tell Osogo to stop, or

Royal Owl will kill him. Money Bags still praises the Royal Owl.

Royal Owl suddenly accuses Money Bags of having betrayed him. That Money Bags only

praises Royal Owl only when he is around. Royal Owl makes an evil laugh and then threatens

to deal with him.

Money Bags starts to plead with King Owl again by praising him with niceties. He is cut short

by a sharp, piercing voice. The voice announces to Money Bags that the Royal Owl has

deserted him and that they will seize the Parliament of Owls, all trees and Royal Trees

before sunrise. It says all birds are tired of Money Bags.

Money Bags shouts that will not happen. The voice says that all birds will perch over the

Parliament at dawn, for they are tired of their hooting and looting. It says they will charge

Money Bags in the courts where the judge will be Osogo and Oyundi will be the prosecutor.

Money Bags is to be prosecuted for all the sins he committed against the birds of the

Kingdom. The voice accuses Money Bags of killing Osogo's family and dancing on their graves.

He contracted on behalf of the Royal tree, Olik Tiga, an animal with teeth to offer security

to the Parliament, which is a taboo.

Money Bags then claims that Olik Tiga is just another lovely night bird, but he denies

knowledge of Osogo, the weaver. Osogo comes in. Osogo tells Money Bags that it is all over

for him as even the King has deserted him. Osogo then plays his flute violently, making Money

Bags scream, block his ears, and slumps back into his chair.

OBSERVATIONS
 Money Bags falls asleep and drifts into a dream. He is visited with various voices of

various characters in his dream. Times and seasons change. Power also shifts, and for

those in leadership positions, there may come a time when they will lose the power, and

they are required to give an account of their deeds in the society. This section shows

how a person in leadership, as Money Bags is, could face challenging times trying to

explain their evil deeds.

 The Parliament has passed many laws such as the Moonlight Law, makeup law, and the law

which gave owls rights to eating frogs and rats, most of which favour the owls and harm

the other birds.

 The birds have gotten tired of bad leadership and decide to take matters into their own

hands. They are to take over and create an institution that believes in the rights of all

birds across the Kingdom; day birds and night birds, grain-eaters, and omnivores. As

Oyundi puts it, they will abandon all the bills and laws passed during the reign of Money

Bags which are detrimental to the welfare of the birds. They will abandon all the laws

that favoured the owls and were passed when Money Bags was in charge. He says the

Moonlight Law shall not see the light of day, while the fried frogs for the owls shall be

declared null and void.

 When asked about the killings carried out in the Kingdom, Money Bags blames it on the

Royal Owl. An indication that some actions taken by the junior officers could have been

sanctioned by those above.

 This section also outlines how people in leadership create ideas and impressions and then

present them as reality to sell their agenda to their subjects. Royal Owl says they

create impressions by weaving conspiracy theories and propaganda and make the

impressions look real even though they are not real. For instance, they make ordinary

owls believe enemies outside the Kingdom surround them.

 Justice is one key element brought out here. All birds are to perch over the Parliament

at dawn, for they are tired of their hooting and looting. It says they will charge Money

Bags in the courts where the judge will be Osogo and Oyundi will be the prosecutor.

Money Bags is to be prosecuted for all the sins he committed against the birds of the

Kingdom. The voice accuses Money Bags of killing Osogo's family and dancing on their

graves. He contracted on behalf of the Royal tree, Olik Tiga, an animal with teeth to

offer security to the Parliament, which is a taboo.

 The birds are spoiling for liberation and Revolution through demonstration. The birds

are tired of bad leadership and decide to take matters into their own hands. Oyundi

says that the birds are coming to take over and create an institution that believes in the

rights of all birds across the Kingdom; day birds, night birds, grain eaters and

omnivores. He adds that they will abandon all the laws that favoured the owls and were

passed when Money Bags was in charge. He says the Moonlight Law shall not see the

light of day, while the fried frogs for the owls shall be declared null and void.

 Money Bags is accused of Oppression. Money Bags is accused graves. The birds want to

charge Money Bags in the courts where the judge will be Osogo and Oyundi will be the

prosecutor. Money Bags is to be prosecuted for all the sins he committed against the

birds of the Kingdom.

 There is corruption through the laws passed in the Parliament to allow Royal Trees to

create, which legalized the tree-grabbing habits by the Royal Owls will become illegal.

All the loyal owls' mercenaries shall be kicked out of the Kingdom.

 Death and disregard for life are seen where Osogo accuses Money Bags that he is

responsible for killing his people and that he should be ready to face the music. Money

Bags denies this, and while trembling, he says that the Royal Owl is responsible. Osogo

leaves.

 Environmental degradation is also highlighted as Royal Owl calls the man a featherless

evil creature that has created much mess in the bird Kingdom. He has cut down their

trees and polluted rivers. He says the only birds that can praise man are the lazy hens

and maybe the sparrow who need a man to survive.

 Deceit is seen as Royal Owl; they rule by creating ideas and then creating impressions;

for instance, they make ordinary owls believe enemies from outside the Kingdom

surround them. They create impressions by weaving conspiracy theories and propaganda

and credits the gods for having made them intelligent so that they can rule the bird

Kingdom. He says fiction always makes sense to those birds who have experienced

reality, a little bird once said.

 Money Bags is pretentious. Royal Owl enters and says he heard Money Bags call his name

in vain. Money Bags is shaken and tries to use niceties to please the Royal Owl; he calls

him his majesty Tula Nyongoro, Man of every moment, Man of any moment, Man of all

moments, Man of great moments, Man of big moments, Man of powerful moments, Man

they are not.

A shaken Money Bags wakes from his sleep; he heaves heavily and looks around. He thanks

the gods that he is not injured, and he has another day to live. A Parrot, Veteran P, a senior

political analyst enters. He says he looked everywhere for Money Bags, and it is already

sunrise. He seeks money Bags’ opinion on the death of Arum Tidi.

Money Bags distrust parrots; he accuses them of twisting words and reporting their things.

He demands to know if he has a pass to allow him into the Parliament. Veteran P says he was

allowed in by the Police Owl.

Veteran P says that Arum Tidi is dead. He has been found floating in the river. He killed

himself; he bled to death after fighting his reflection and injured. There was no ambulance

to take him to the hospital as Nightingale was instructed not to use the ambulance until

seven nights after the passing of the Moonlight Law. Arum Tidi could not access medical

attention, and the ambulance would not be released.

Money Bags feels excited. He smiles and starts to shower praises for Arum Tidi. He says he

was one of the most trusted foot soldiers, who was committed and steadfast and committed

to having a better Kingdom of birds. He stood with the loyal owls for what was right, and he

the Royal Trees. Money Bags sends his condolences to Arum Tidi's family and the entire clan

of the hornbills. He says they shall sure miss Arum Tidi.

Veteran P wants to question Money Bags about some rumours, but he is quick to shut him

down that it is not time for rumours but rather a time to mourn a hero. Money Bags says the

flags will be flown at half-mast for three nights to show solidarity with the family during

the mourning time. He adds that Arum Tidi joins the list of heroes to be celebrated on

Heroes Day, and he is to be awarded a Royal award, EBH Elder of the Beautiful Horn. He

says may the soul of Arum Tidi, EBH, rest in eternal sleep. He says he speaks on behalf of

the Royal Owl.

Veteran P nods, and they leave.

OBSERVATIONS
 People in a position of power distrust the media. They fear exposure of their under-hand

dealings. This society is riddled with political assassinations, for instance, the killing of

Arum Tidi. However, hypocrisy, pretense characterize the politicians. They feign

innocence and feel sorry for a person they worked with earlier, yet they have been

involved in their death – clearly exemplified by Money Bags. The political class will not

allow the media to report on matters freely, but they censure the press. Money Bags

threatens that the parrots like twisting words and not reporting things as they are

supposed to be. Moreover, he prevents veteran P from questioning him about the death

of Arum Tidi.

 It is the hypocrisy of the highest order Money Bags feels excited. He smiles and starts

to shower praises for Arum Tidi. He says he was one of the most trusted foot soldiers,

who was committed and steadfast and committed to having a better Kingdom of birds. He

great policies of the Parliament with the support of the Royal Trees. Money Bags sends

fighting his reflection and injured. Veteran P even goes further to seek information from

Money Bags of who could have killed Arum Tidi. Media freedom is also a crucial aspect of

a free, democratic society.

 Media freedom in this part is denied. The media is gagged as Money Bags prevents

veteran P from questioning him about the death of Arum Tidi.

 Abuse of office can be seen as Arum Tidi dies without medical help because he could not

access emergency medical assistance since there was no ambulance to take him to the

hospital. Nightingale was under instruction not to use the ambulance until seven nights

after the passing of the Moonlight Law. Arum Tidi could not access medical attention,

and the ambulance would not be released.

ACT 3

PAGE 63-70
It is sunset after the morning of the death of Arum Tidi. Ochongorio, Osogo, and Tel Tel

are gathered around where rum Tidi has been buried. Osogo plays a mournful, low tune. The

mood is melancholic.

Ochongorio is pessimistic; she thinks they are fighting a losing battle because the owls are

too powerful, intelligent, have big eyes, hardened claws, sharp beaks that frighten faint-

hearted birds. Osogo sees that she shows signs of giving up. He urges her that losing hope

should be the last thing she should do. He encourages Ochongorio to remain hopeful, using

himself as an example, who has undergone much suffering at the hands of the Royal Owls.

Ochongorio laments about the demise of Arum Tidi. She wonders why the Royal Owls should

kill him, yet he was working with them and loyal to them. Tel Tel says that Money Bags never

forgets and never forgives if wronged. A case at hand was Money Bags' earlier dismissal of

Arum Tidi, which showed their crossing. He is too powerful.

Tel Tel adds that Royal Owl highly trusts Money Bags. He was the Royal Owls blue-eyed bird

during the struggle for freedom.

Ochongorio is curious to understand if the Royal Owl is aware of the things his trusted

general, Money Bags, has been doing around the Kingdom. She further wonders if the Royal

Owl is as ill-intentioned as Money Bags. Osogo says Royal Owl and Money Bags work together,

and thus they are in it together. Tel Tel reveals that Arum Tidi had leaked confidential

information to parrots about secret activities within the Kingdom. He had trusted Little P,

but Litle p is a corrupt parrot and a close friend of Socialite Owl , who is Money Bags’ secret

lover. Little P may have told Socialite Owl the same information infuriated Money Bags very

much. Money Bags dismisses Arum. Tidi.

Osogo confirms having seen Arum Tidi having a conversation with Little P a few days before

the massacre of the weavers. Tel Tel talks about the internal political wars among the

omnivores; the vultures, the crows, the hornbills, and the owls. The vultures and the crows

argued that they were not benefiting as omnivores from the rule of owls. They planned a

secret protest which the vultures funded. The owls had to counter it.

Tel Tel recounts the times when snakes invaded their nests. The snakes raided the nests

and stole eggs in broad daylight. He says it was the work of Money Bags who organized the

raid to create insecurity so that he got the chance to introduce the Law of Bird Protection.

Osogo says that they had to seek the services of Ochunglo, the ant, who came with his army

and chased the snakes away. Money Bags did not like the idea because Oyundi did not seek

permission from the Police Owl. Little P says that Oyundi was declared an enemy of the

Parliament of Owls. The Kingdom of the birds. Oyundi was declared an enemy because of her

role in kicking the snakes out of their nests. They felt she was messing up their plan to hoot

and loot.

Tol Tel says all omnivores deride hornbills because they cannot offer any security. Hornbills

are mocked because they cannot tell the difference between themselves and their

reflection, and they end up fighting their reflections.

Ochongorio comments amusingly that he once heard Fleshy Carcass tell Arum Tidi that he

could go and make noise to his reflection.

Osogo says he hopes the vultures are not planning to exhume the body of Arum Tidi. It would

be a disgrace.

Litle P enters, and Osogo jumps on her, calling her a corrupt parrot who works with the owls

to undermine the day birds (sellouts). Tel Tel calls Little P a traitor; she claims she is

responsible for Arum Tidi’s death for being a friend to the Socialite Owl. Little P denies and

says that Socialite Owl only wanted to use her. She wants to leave, but she is stopped by

Tel Tel, who asks her to tell them what she knows about Olik Tiga. Litle P says she is not

speaking as an employee of the Birds eye-view television network, but rather as a citizen of

the Kingdom.

Little P says that Money Bags tricked the crows and the vultures. He pretended to be

impartial regarding the contest between those two flocks of birds over the security tender;

however, even before the passing of the Bird-Protection law, Money Bags had secretly

awarded the tender to Olik Tiga. Ochongorio comments that now she understands why Black

String presented a bill in Parliament to give Olik Tiga citizenship, which was done a week

before passing the bill of Bird protection. With the argument that Olik Tiga was just another

lovely night bird.

Little P says she has information that Arum Tidi had damning dossier on a serious scandal

implicating Money Bags. Money Bags has warned all birds against speculating about the death

of Arum Tidi.

Tel Tel says that the Kingdom is rotten to the core. The bird protection law gives Royal

Trees the power to search birds' nests without a warrant. So, Olik Tiga, as blind as he is,

will search the nests any day or night.

Osogo says that the owls are rioting, and Little P says there is a party. The Parliament of

Owls has a night party.

OBSERVATIONS
 Adipo explores the ills bedeviling society. There is a lot of suffering, which leads to

hopelessness. Tel Tel brings threats and intimidations at their peak, as well as betrayal

and corruption, which all contribute to a rotten society, as explained by Tel Tel. Arum

Tidi has been buried, having been killed by the owls for being seen to work against the

owls. Arum Tidi's killing is a betrayal from the owls, especially considering that he was

loyal to them and they had shown tremendous trust in him.

 Vultures and Crows have undergone a lot of betrayal in the hands of Money Bags. He

tricked the crows and the vultures by pretending to be impartial regarding the contest

between those two flocks of birds over the security tender; however, even before the

passing of the Bird-Protection law, Money Bags had secretly awarded the tender to Olik

Tiga. Ochongorio comments that now she understands why Black String presented a bill

in Parliament to give Olik Tiga citizenship, which was done a week before passing the bill

of Bird protection. With the argument that Olik Tiga was just another lovely night bird.

 Litle P may have told Socialite Owl the same information, which Socialite owl took to

Money Bags. The piece of information infuriated Money Bags very much and made him

dismiss Arum Tidi. Money Bags eventually kills Arum Tidi. Money Bags never forgets nor

forgives. He is vengeful.

 Bad leadership is the order of the day as the Law of Bird Protection gives Royal Trees

the power to search birds’ nests without warrant. So Olik Tiga, as blind as he is, will

search the nests any time of the day or night, which leads to the loss of their eggs and

young ones. In addition, Oppression is a characteristic of the bad leadership in the bird

Kingdom. Tel Tel recounts the times when snakes invaded their nests. The snakes raided

the nests and stole eggs in broad daylight. He says it was the work of Money Bags who

organized the raid to create insecurity so that he could get the chance to introduce the

Law of Bird Protection.

 There are many threats and intimidation as Little P says he has information that Arum

Tidi had a damning dossier on a serious scandal implicating Money Bags which could have

led to his killing. Now Money Bags has warned all birds against speculating about the

death of Arum Tidi. This warning has created a lot of fear among the birds such that

birds scamper away to safety from Arum Tidi's grave when they hear owls approaching

the grave.

 Suffering that the birds are undergoing in the leadership of Money Bags and, by

extension, the Royal Owl has led to disillusionment. Ochongorio is pessimistic and says

she thinks they are fighting a losing battle because the owls are too powerful,

intelligent, have big eyes, hardened claws, sharp beaks that frighten faint-hearted

birds. Osogo clearly sees that she shows signs of giving up; he urges her that losing hope

should be the last thing that she should do.

 He encourages Ochongorio to remain hopeful, using himself as an example, who has

undergone a lot of suffering at the hands of the Royal Owls.

 Adipo brings out Conflict among the birds. Tel Tel talks about the internal political wars

among the omnivores; the vultures, the crows, the hornbills, and the owls. The vultures

and the crows argue that they are not benefiting as omnivores from the rule of owls.

They planned a secret protest which the vultures funded. The owls had to counter it.

 Money Bags is Vengeful. He declares Oyundi an enemy because the services of Ochunglo,

who was used to kick the snakes out of their nests. The snakes' attack on birds' nests

was a plot by Money Bags to create insecurity to give him a reason to bring about the

Bird Protection Law. Little P says that Oyundi was declared an enemy of the Parliament

of Owls and by extension of the Kingdom of the birds because Money Bags felt she was

messing up their plan to hoot and loot.

The hooting of owls is heard near the grave of Arum Tidi. The birds scramper into hiding.

The Police Owl comes and goes to Arum Tidi’s grave. Black String also comes in, singing a

song of joy. He looks around to ascertain that no bad is around. He hoots loudly and

confirms no bird is around. Red String comes in, and he is visibly drunk. Liitle P takes out

her camera and secretly takes pictures.

Red String, in a drunken manner, pretends to mourn Arum Tidi. He blames Arum Tidi for

fighting his reflection because it led to his death. Red String further says that Arum Tidi

fighting his reflection was like fighting the Royal Owl, and one cannot win. He killed

himself.

Black String tells Red String that the Royal Owl is about to arrive. Tel Tel whispers in

shock that Royal Owl is coming. Ochongorio tries to make her silent. Red String seems to

have heard a sound of a bird. He says a bird is around, but Black String says he has not

seen any bird.

Red String looks around. Money Bags, Socialite Owl, followed by Royal Owl enter. Money

Bags is drunk too. Money Bags welcomes King Tula, Nyongoro, Royal Owl by praising him. He

says Royal Owl is Master Owl, the Master Owl is the City Owl, and the City Owl is the Owl

of owls, the Owl of every moment, Owl of any moment, Owl of moments of monumental

momentum. He welcomes Royal Owl as they celebrate the passage of Moonlight Bill.

Socialite Owl points to the grave, where they buried the traitor, Arum Tidi, whom they

gave a decent send off as a hero, but he was not.

Royal Owl walks to Arum Tidi's grave and seems to address him. He declares that Arum

Tidi shall be a hero celebrated on heroes' day according to his powers. Arum Tidi, EBH,

Elder of the Beautiful Horn. Then, Arum Tidi should not take his word for granted next

time. Then he laughs hysterically.

Socialite Owl wants to know what Royal Owl means by next time. Royal Owl reprimands

Money Bags that warned him not to invite Socialite Owl to his meetings. Money Bags

orders Socialite Owl to leave.

Royol Owl intervenes and says Socialite Owl is forgiven. He says they should have an

extension of the moonlight party to celebrate the passing of a hero, Arum Tidi.

Royal Owl begins to sing the freedom song and is joined by other owls, singing in

excitement and dancing. Socialite Owl comes back with champagne and wine. They pop

champagne amid cheers and toast to Royal Owl's long reign.

Money Bags says that it is the best wine made from the best wild berries. Royal Owl

speaks to Arum Tidi's grave, telling him bye. He says he is going back to the Royal Trees to

rest. Turning to Money Bags, he reminds him that they will have a delegation from the Lion

Kingdom at dawn the following day. He says the party is over, and owls should leave at their

pleasure. He leaves, escorted by Money Bags and Police Owl.

OBSERVATIONS
 There can never be a better picture of government leadership that is rotten to the core

than the one displayed by drunk Red String and Money Bags. They come to Arum Tidi's

grave to celebrate the passing of the Moonlight Bill, which had opposition from other

Birds and Arum Tidi.

 The leadership, led by Royal Owl, King Tula Nyongoro, is full of hypocrisy. They come to

Arum Tidi's grave pretending to mourn him, even honour him with an award, yet they kill

him. The owls have instilled fear in other birds as they scamper to safety into hiding

when they hear the owls coming.

 The killing of Arum Tidi displays the cruelty meted to any member who shows opposition

to the leadership of owls. It is also a betrayal for Arum Tidi to be killed by the same

owls he worked for against the other birds.

There shall be no other like him, and no bird shall rival his gift of the gab. He then says that

arrested. All birds are expected to be in their nests at that particular time unless they are

an owl or a night bird appointed by his Majesty Royal Owl.

He says the Moonlight Law is for the greater good of the community, and every bird should

stand united, respect the law in making the Kingdom great. He says the enemy is without and

not within. Not among them.

Little P walks out of his hiding and catches Red String unawares. Red String asks him if he

wants to interview him. Little P says he could not miss capturing such great news.

Red String agrees to give the news with the condition that he will not be asked questions.

Red String then says that in line with the philosophy that all birds can fly, Royal Owl has

appointed One-Eyed to implement the Moonlight Law. He will support Olik Tiga, who is now a

Kingdom This law will require that all birds register their eggs with Olik Tiga every day to

enable the parliament to have real-time statistics against predators like the snake.

Ochongorio and Osogo whisper about real-time statistics, and Osogo says the owls want to

steal their eggs. Red String hears the whispers, but Little P dismisses him that it is the evil

wind, Nyawawa.

He then tells Little P to report all that he has been given accurately. Red String then says

that Black String, Green String, and himself have have been honoured with the most

prestigious awards in the Kingdom. The OMDE - order of the Most Digital Eyes and EMSH -

commitment to a greater parliament and Kingdom.

Iron Lady entes, and Little P takes her photos. She mocks Red String calling the awards

OMDE – the Order of the Most Dangerous Eyes and EMSH - Elder of the Most Selfish

Hooters. Tel Tel and the other hiding birds feel excited about seeing her. Little P asks her

what she thinks of the breaking news. Red String demands to know what the Iron Lady wants.

He reminds Little P that he said there should not be questions.

Iron Lady, who calls Red String drunkard, says that she is the Iron Lady, and she does not

play around with lazy owls like Red String. She says she will make sure the announcement is

stopped. She warns Red String against gagging the press.

Red String calls the Police Owl to come and remove her, referring to her as a mischief-

maker. Iron Lady, in turn, counters him by saying that Red String has achieved nothing

single-handedly apart from being a relative of Money Bags (nepotism). Police Owl enters and

whisks Iron Lady out. However, not before she shouts that Red String is a disgrace and they

would do everything to get him out of parliament. This tantrum leaves Red String laughing.

Litle P asks Red String what he knows about the death of Arum Tidi, but he reminds him

that he said he should not be asked any questions. Red String continues that Royal Owl has

declared that Money Bags, due to his cosmic eyes and intelligence, shall run the intelligence

system, chair the security committee, and seek viable alliances with the Lion Kingdom. Sign

partnership deals with the reptiles and sits in the Kingdom's highest decision-making organ.

He continues that due to his wealth of experience, hardened claws, and fine feathers, Money

Bags shall control the movement of all the day birds and night birds, make policies, and advise

His majesty Royal Owl, Tula Nyongoro.

Osogo, Tel Tel, and Ochongorio, who are in hiding, are shocked by all that Red String says

about the appointment of Money Bags and all duties under his docket. Tel Tel feels things

now are turning into a hopeless situation. Osogo reminds him that hope is the only thing that

will make them stand. It is their only weapon.

Red String continues with his revelation of news from the Royal Trees. He says that His

majesty, Royal Owl, has signed a pact with Oyundi to unite the divided Kingdom. He says that

Oyundi was arrested that evening, but she pleaded for amnesty, and there shall be a

celebration the following day after sunset. He continues that Oyundi will be the first bird

to join the Parliament of Owls and will be in charge of simplifying the complex laws today

birds.

He says he will hold the previously-held position by Tel Tel, who is currently a wanted bird.

OBSERVATIONS
 Members of parliament continue their show of disgrace and incompetent leadership. Red

String gives a press briefing while he is drunk. He displays the insincerity of the

government officials in mourning Arum Tidi and praising him, yet they killed him. He

orders the news reporter not to question him but only listen to what he says and report

as given. Red String updates the Moonlight Law which is discriminative to other birds. It

favours the owls and disadvantages the other birds by limiting their time of twittering

and moving around.

 This section shows how cronies of Royal Owl are rewarded with awards for their

sycophancy. It contrasts, showing that those who bootlick and agree with King Tula

Nyongoro without question are rewarded. However, those who oppose the leadership or

point out areas that need rectification are punished or killed.

 There is, however, resistance from straightforward members like Iron Lady, who is not

ready to just sit and see things Iron Lady points out that the Parliament of Owls has

become a disgrace as it passes laws that only favour the owls. She says they will do

everything to remove such leadership from office.

 Red String displays insincerity when he pretends to mourn Arum Tidi, yet he was

involved in killing him. He addresses the gathering of night birds. He tells them to

observe a minute of silence to mourn Arum Tidi; he says it is unfortunate that they have

lost a hardworking and loyal bird that gave his entire life to making the Kingdom great.

 Red String advances dictatorship and tyranny by declaring that all birds must observe

the Moonlight Law. Any bird found flouting the Moonlight Law shall be arrested. All

birds are expected to be in their nests at that particular time unless they are an owl or

a night bird appointed by his Majesty Royal Owl.

 Loyalty sees rewarding birds close to and who work with Royal Owl, King Tula, Nyongoro.

says she will make sure the announcement is stopped. She warns Red String against

 Iron Lady points to nepotism, saying that Red String has achieved nothing single-

handedly apart from being a relative of Money Bags. He is part of the members of

parliament only by being a relative of Money Bags.

 Selfishness is exemplified by Money Bags, who is to take all the various positions in the

government. Red String confirms that Royal Owl has declared that Money Bags, due to

his cosmic eyes and intelligence, shall run the intelligence system, chair the security

Oyundi comes in; Tel Tel is shocked. Oyundi stands at the foot of Arum Tidi's grave. She

addresses the grave, telling Arum Tidi to rest in peace. Then she tells day birds that this is

the time for them to rise and take back their Kingdom, and they should remain united. Red

String congratulates Oyundi and says that the gods have witnessed all that, and they will

then seek to make the Kingdom greater. Owls hoot. He goes on that they will teach Oyundi

how to hoot and to see at night. There is laughter as he orders Little P to leave as they do

not want unnecessary parroting.

Little P wants to ask a question, but she is ordered out by Red String; she leaves while taking

photos of Red String with Oyundi.

Oyundi is keen and observant; she sees a feather from a bird a few meters from Arum Tidi's

grave. It looks like Tel Tel's feather. She calls out to Tel Tel and urges her to come out of

hiding. Red String is enraged and walks towards the thicket, trying to see if he can find her.

He does not see the birds hiding. Oyundi sees the birds then; she sends Red String to the

east while going west. Red String goes away, Oyundi walks to where the three birds are

hiding, and she greets them.

Ochongorio tells Oyundi he cannot believe what she has done. Tel Tel calls her a sellout.

Osogo blasts her that she has betrayed the souls of his kin slain by the owls. However,

Oyundi tells them that she has a plan. She reminds Tel Tel that she is the mother of all the

tricks and more so a student of Ogila Nyakarondo.

Tel Tel doubts her but asks her about the trick that she has. Red String says he could not

find that little bird anywhere and shouts from outside, asking Oyundi if she had found Tel

Tel. Oyundi lies that she has not found her, but she rehearses a poem to praise Royal Owl at

the celebration. Oyundi says being called little is derogatory, and she is not little; Red String

says it is concerning Tel Tel, he apologises. Oyundi directs him to go down to the corner of

the forest to look for them there.

OBSERVATIONS
 Scheming and confronting rogue leadership require tact and skill. That is what Oyundi,

the cunning bird, has learnt. She chooses to lead the resistance and remove bad

leadership from power by working from within. She feigns defeat and remorsefulness

only to be allowed to join the Parliament of Owls so that she gets a better chance to

fight the enemy from within. She is on a rallying call to the birds to stand up and be

counted in the resistance against the bad leadership of owls. She displays that fear is

the great enemy of success. She urges the birds to stand united to achieve their goal.

 Her choice, however, of joining the owls does not sit well with the other birds, such as

Ochongorio and Osogo who see her as a sell-out.

 Oyundi plans for a revolution. Oyundi stands at the foot of Arum Tidi’s grave and mourns

him, knowing he died struggle against the owls. She addresses day birds that this is the

time for them to rise and take back their Kingdom, and they should remain united.

 Oyundi displays bravery as she opts to join the Parliament of Owls to fight them from

within. She knows she can get backlash from other birds, and even it is dangerous for

her own life, she still goes on with the plan. She is focused on the greater goal of

liberating the Kingdom.

 She also displays treachery and deception as she lies that she has not found Tel Tel, yet

she is talking to her and the other birds. She lies that she is rehearsing a poem to

praise Royal Owl at the celebration and then deliberately misdirects Red String to go

String on wild goose chase so that she gets a chance to discuss with the birds her plans.

trick. Oyundi opens up that she has been with Ogila Nyakarondo since the previous day,

pondering how to kick the owls from parliament and build a new institution.

Ochongorio drops in that it should be called the flock of birds. The four birds go into a

trance. There is a shining light over them. They go into an imagined state where the

Parliament of Owls has been replaced by Flock of Birds; Tel Tel imagines a future where the

flock of birds runs the Kingdom of birds. Tel Tel now addresses an imaginary Flock of Birds

- parliament. She says she speaks on behalf of birds from the southern edge of the valley;

her colleague from the wetland constituency, Mr. Waterfowl, raises serious concerns about

the wetlands' security, just like his colleague Ms flamingo had done a while back. They should

therefore avoid prevarications and address the security issue at hand.

Ochongorio acts as the speaker of the Flock of Birds parliament tells Tel Tel that she is out

of order for using a complex language; she should just use a simple language that is familiar

to the speaker. Oyundi interjects and appreciates the Flock of Birds parliament for having

passed the sunshine bill, a bill passed in the presence of all birds, they start singing their

song of the birds flying, but loud drums sounding bring them back to reality from their

trance.

Oyundi tells Tel Tel to look for a mysterious Golden Bead. She says the watchtower owl

hoots twelve times at midnight, a shrill hoot. She reminds her that they planted the Royal

Trees; therefore, she knows her way around them well. She urges her not to fear, and in

addition, Oti Mach, the firefly, will be waiting for her.

Tel Tel begins to sing about the Golden Bead, the watchtower owl, the shrill hoot, royal

tress, lti Mach, in allegiance to the flock of birds; the kind of plan they have to realise the

Parliament of Owls. The other birds go away. Tel Tel does not realise this. She

sings, screaming in excitement, forgetting herself and her surroundings.

Red String comes in. Tel Tel turns around and sees that Ochongorio, Oyundi, and Osogo are

gone. She feigns shock. Police Owl also comes in and pins Tel Tel down and handcuffs her.

Police Owl reads her the arrest code, telling her that she is under arrest and anything she

says will be used against her in the court of law. She has led away. Red String laughs very

much, telling Tel Tel that she will have a tale to tell the other Tel Tels.

OBSERVATIONS

 Good governance ensures that all the birds' welfare, rights, and freedoms are catered.

It is a joy to achieve liberation; it is so sweet and enticing and worthy of celebration.

This is what makes three birds into a trance, and they see themselves having succeeded

in bringing sanity in the way the parliament runs its business. It passes laws that passes

laws that are beneficial to all birds but not discriminatory laws like those passed in the

Parliament of Owls.

 Environmental conservation is a key issue highlighted during the trance, as the wetlands

must be protected and conserved. They are water catchment areas that need

safeguarding and maintenance.

 Good governance is displayed when bills passed in parliament cater for the needs of all

those concerned. Such bills should be beneficial to the citizenry in general and

specificity. Oyundi congratulates the parliament for passing the sunshine bill in the

presence of all birds and their agreement.

 Coming from the trance, Tel Tel is tasked with acquiring the Golden Bead, which is

instrumental in their quest for resistance and revolution to take power from the owls.

 Arrest of Tel Tel is oppression. Police Owl also comes in and pins Tel Tel down and

handcuffs her. Police Owl reads her the arrest code, telling her that she is under arrest

and anything she says will be used against her in the court of law. She has led away. Red

String laughs very much, telling Tel Tel that she will have a tale to tell to the other Tel

Tels.

 Tel Tel is concerned about the welfare of others birds. Tel Tel now addresses an

imaginary Flock of Birds - parliament. She says she speaks on behalf of birds from the

southern edge of the valley, raising serious concerns about the security of the

wetlands, which should be addressed without prevarications for its conclusion.

ACT 4
PAGE 85-91
It is the evening after the release of Oyundi and the arrest of Tel Tel. it has been an evening

celebration. Birds are twittering from every tree around. Ochongorio is with Oyundi, Osogo

and Red String. Ochongorio is wearing white clothes. Red String says on behalf of the Royal

Owl; they congratulate Ochongorio for her marriage.

Oyundi cuts in that it was a very wonderful marriage ceremony but observes that it is sad

Tel Tel is missing the action. But she then adds that Tel Tel is paying for her sins. Red String

agrees that Tel Tel should pay for the sins and says the only problem is how they will fly out

of there because they have eaten to the full for the food was so delicious.

Ochongorio says they love all the birds amid cheers from the birds, which dedicate a song

to Mr. and Mrs Ochongorio. The song praises their marriage. Red String praises the song

sung and excuses himself to go. He tells Oyundi to make sure they adhere to the Moonlight

Law. Oyundi acknowledges and wishes him well.

Oyundi whispers to Ochongorio that she hopes every bird knows about the plan; Ochongorio

reassures her that she has talked to them and confirmed their attendance. Oyundi says that

Royal Owl prefers to call the Unity Pact celebration UPC.

Osogo then inputs that UPC should start not earlier than five in the morning because the

mongoose still gives the duck and the cock trouble. Oyundi says that the meeting will start

at 4 in the morning. He adds that he had warned the cock and the duck against agreeing to

be domesticated by man, which she saw as slavery, but they never listened.

The domestication has made them frail birds. She says that all birds use them as an example

of cowardice. She turns to Feathered Beak to inquire about the night birds. Feathered Beak

confirms that the owls would attend as long as the celebration ends before sunrise. He adds

that the hornbills are more than ready to attend, that they are saddened by the murder of

one of their own. The struggle for freedom could not have come at a better time. He also

confirms that the vultures are ready to side with them because the Royal Owl betrayed

them; any bird that is an enemy of Royal Owl is their friend.

Ochongorio praises the Feathered Beak, who says their Kingdom is greater than any one of

them, and they should stand in unity and truth.

Oyundi tells Osogo to call the day birds with his flute. She tells Osogo to praise Royal Owl

and his godforsaken name in the morning. Voices come with praises for Oyundi; the voices

say they love her despite the size, which does not matter.

Ochongorio says that after the Unity Pact Celebration, they shall be stronger, and they shall

harvest the fruits of their struggle. Oyundi says they must sacrifice today for a better

tomorrow, and Ochongorio adds they have to do it for their children and their children's

children.

Oyundi is asked that since she had met Royal Owl, to explain how he looks and what he

thought when Oyundi met him. She responds that Royal Owl is a very big owl with big eyes

and a big head. In addition, she says his mind is likehat Royal owl is a very big owl with big

eyes and a big head. In addition, she says his mind is like the entire sky in its darkness. One

cannot tell what Royal Owl is thinking.

The voice then begs to leave to not break the Moonlight Law and says that he is a peace-

loving bird and a patriotic one. He says Oyundi sometimes makes them look like they are

constantly fighting the owls. He says they should support the owls because it is the peace

they want. The voice leaves.

Oyundi commends sarcastically, the bird which just left is so greedy that he is ready to do

anything to find favour with Money Bags and his puppets. Ochongorio agrees and even

suggests that the bird might be flying directly to Money Bags, and it is prudent they stop

him. Osogo wonders what Ochongorio means by stopping the bird, but Oyundi disagrees with

her and says the best thing to do is monitor him through Feathered Beak trailing him.

Feathered Beak accepts that he is ready for the task and flies out but comes back to ask

what it was meant by stopping the bird. Oyundi explains that it means catching him and

bringing him back so that he can be converted.

Iron Lady enters, and she is breathing heavily. Ochongorio asks about the matter with Iron

Lady, who reports that she has bad news. She says that straight-Eyed had pledged allegiance

to the Royal Owl. She was seen with Money Bags the previous night and would be receiving

an appointment early the following day from Royal Owl for "choosing to stand for the greater

interest of the kingdom."

Oyundi says that the movement shall not stop because of greedy birds that do not have

principles. Feathered Beak adds that straight-Eyed is the official CEO, making Ochongorio

wonder if she has been appointed CEO. However, Feathered Beak humorously explains that

he is now officially Cross-Eyed Owl. Feathered, Beak adds that he knew Straight-Eyed was

weak and had given in. He goes after the greedy bird. Oyundi reminds feathered Beak that

the following day he will be monitoring the ongoings at the royal trees till dawn.

Feathered Beak tells Oyundi that he is a trained detective and is more than confident. He

adds that the owls are always fighting over food every night; they fight over everything,

and that will come to an end before sunrise the following day because the change that shall

come to the Kingdom in the morning will be the greatest in the bird kingdom. He leaves

together with Iron Lady.

OBSERVATIONS
 The celebrations for the Unity Pact between the night Birds and the Day birds is in top

gear. The attendance of all birds is confirmed, and systems are ready to go. Oyundi is

plannig a major happening during the Unity Pact Celebrations, though whatever it is has

not been revealed to the other birds, lest it jeopardises their expectations. All efforts

are pointing towards the struggle for liberation from the shackles of betrayal,

oppression, exploitation, intimidation, political assassinations, among many more evils

that are meted out to the citizenry birds of the Kingdom. Freedom comes at a cost, and

the birds being led by Oyundi are ready to pay that sacrifice. Their ultimate goal is to

see the leadership change hands so that they have fair representation and protect the

lives and welfare of each member of society.

 They set out to secure the future of their children. Many issues are highlighted in this

section.

 Resistance for liberation is what Oyundi is planning for. He asksaround to ascertain the

attendance of day birds and night birds. He tasks Feathered Beak with monitoring the

ongoings at the Royal Trees the following day till dawn. Osogo has the task of calling all

the day; with his flute and praising Royal Owl in the morning to praise his godforsaken

name.

 There is conflict as the owls fight over food every night; they fight and therefore owls

fight for the little that can be found. However, there is optimism that by sunrise the

following morning, the change would have happened in the leadership, and therefore the

situation might change for the better. The change shall come to the Kingdom in the

morning, and the bird Kingdom will be greatest again.

 Betrayal is advanced by Straight-Eyed, who abandons the quest for struggle and jumps

ship to pledge allegiance to the Royal Owl. He is set to receive an appointment early the

following day from Royal Owl for "choosing to stand for the greater interest of the

Kingdom. "Moreover, it is a display of greed for Straight-eyed to change sides because

of what he stands to gain as an individual instead of standing with the other Birds to

liberate their Kingdom. Oyundi says that the movement shall not stop because of greedy

birds.

 Poverty, which indicates bad leadership, has pinned down the birds. This sees the owls

fighting over food every night; they fight over everything. The struggle for freedom

could not have come at a better time. Feathered Beak confirms that the vultures are

ready with them because the Royal Owl betrayed them; any bird an enemy of Royal Owl

is their friend. The betrayal of the vultures pushes them towards rebellion against the

owls. The hornbills are more than ready to attend that they are saddened by the murder

of one of their own, Arum Tidi as a victim of political assassination. This is the cruelty

met by birds that go against the leadership of owls.

 Ochongorio is crafty; she uses their marriage celebration as a time to pass across their

message of revolution against Royal Owl and the Parliament of Owls.

Oyundi asks Ochongorio what she uses to make his house. She responds that he uses grass

and leaves. Oyundi wants to know why he uses the grass and leaves to make the house.

Ochongorio explains that grass and leaves are easy to carry and make the best nests.

Oyundi then expounds that if they want a Kingdom in which all birds feel comfortable,

safe, and secure with a sense of belonging and identity, they must build that Kingdom with

suitable material. She adds that they must make their laws to have fair representation in

the parliament. They should start by uniting for one purpose; then, they befriend their

enemy. Owls hoot, and birds scamper to safety.

OBSERVATIONS
 Oyundi exemplifies leadership which is paramount for a better functioning society. She is

working towards bringing all the birds together in a unity pact to have a mutual and

respectful coexistence. She sees she can do this by having laws that enable fair

representation in the parliament.

 Oyundi is wise as she explains that if they want a Kingdom in which all birds feel

Money Bags is strolling around the parliament in the moonlight. He is talking to himself. His

eyes brighten up, and he stops and looks up at the moon. He seems impressed. He says if

only he were a falcon, he would soar up in the skies to peck on the beautifully scented stars

of the beautiful skies, and nectar would fall like rain upon the wonderful Kingdom of Royal

Owl, His Majesty, His Highness, the Almighty Tula Nyongoro.

He continues to himself that though he is not a falcon, he is the second most decorated Owl

in history. Their struggle was never in vain as they enjoyed the fruits of their independence.

He clears his throat and starts to sing.

He observes that the song is a great anthem, and it is wonderful for they are in a Kingdom,

thriving in prosperity, under the excellent leadership of Royal Owl (ironic). He says they

need a loyalty pledge to Royal Owl and the Parliament of Owls. That all birds should praise

the owls and worship Royal Owl, which by default they will be worshipping him. He stops and

hears Osogo's flute. He is disturbed by the song played by Osogo; he says it gives him a

headache, and Oyundi must ensure that all the day birds toe the line, for she is now one of

them, one of his wings.

Socialite Owl comes in and asks who is now one of them, saying that Money Bags should not

be that gullible to consider Oyundi as one of them. Money Bags warns her to be careful about

how she talks to him. However, Socialite Owl insists that Money Bags ought to listen to her,

and if he does not, he will ruin the reign of the owls. She continues that Oyundi is a cunning

bird and appointing her to the Parliament of Owls is worse than appointing ten vultures to

guard the grave of Arum Tidi.

Money Bags wants to understand why Socialite Owl says that. She explains that their

Parliament is a monument, and it cannot be open for every little bird. Moreover, Oyundi is

under the tutelage of Ogila Nyakarondo. She reminds Money Bags of the crimes committed

by Ogila Nyakarondo, that some are grave, while some made his victims look less intelligent,

showing he had terrible moves. She does not want Money Bags, whom she calls sweetheart,

to fall victim to Oyundi.

Money Bags says that he also loves her very much and assures her that Oyundi has run out

of tricks, and that is why she surrendered. The following day they were going to have a Unity

Pact Celebration, and he expects Socialite Owl to be present as the Royal Owl will be

presiding over the ceremony. Socialite Owl is adamant and tells Money Bags that the last

person he should see is his so-called ally is associating with is Ogila Nyakarondo. Ogila

Nyakarondo is so clever and cunning that he could trick King Lion and even tricked the

crocodile and ate all her eggs.

Money Bags discounts her fears and says that crocodile is naturally dumb, as she even thinks

that having scales makes her intelligent. Socialite Owl asks him if he remembers the story

of Hare and Crocodile. Iron Lady enters and sarcastically says that she remembers.

Money Bags questions Iron Lady where she is coming from and if she has followed the

footsteps of Straight-Eyed. Iron Lady says that that it is their Kingdom, and they have the

freedom to go wherever they want. Socialite Owl looks away unamused.

Money Bags tells Iron Lady that she is misleading herself as there is nothing like freedom.

It is just an idea, like one day a little bird that birds are born free, but everywhere they

are in chains.

Iron Lady ten says if everything is just an idea, then even the owls' existence is just an idea,

just as power is just an idea. Socialite Owl asks her what she wants, and Money Bags warns

Iron Lady that she should be careful how she speaks to the second most decorated Owl in

the Kingdom.

Iron Lady sarcastically congratulates Money Bags for his several appointments and Royal

Owl's confidence in him. She refers to him with the titles of his awards., EMSH - Elder of

the Most Significant Hoot, OMDE - Order of the Most Decorated Eyes.

Socialite Owl demands to know what Iron Lady wants from them because she works with the

day birds to undermine the owls. Money Bags also adds that there is nowhere else to go as

now the day birds are coming to work with then owls.

Iron Lady responds that she has realized there is no difference between day and night.

Socialite Owl asks what she means by that. Iron Lady says it is a good question from the

wrong quarters. Money Bags laughs. This irks Socialite Owl and again asks Iron Lady what

she means by that. Iron Lady responds that she can never understand her statement in this

world or the next one.

Socialite Owl begins to fight with Iron Lady. Money Bags moves in to separate them but then

steps aside to let them square it out. Money Bags tells Socialite Owl to make Iron Lady

understand the difference between day and night, and if she cannot see it, she must feel it.

Iron Lady overpowers Socialite Owl, Money Bags intervenes and separates them, they now

abuse each other verbally.

Socialite Owl tells Iron Lady that she cannot influence them with who cannot be blackmailed

by Socialite Owl, who is high on cheap brews. She tells her to go to her Money Bags.

Socialite Owl says Iron Lady cannot qualify to get even the cheap Iron Lady responds that

Socialite Owl has talons manicured in nocturnal salons.

Feathered Beak enters and sarcastically asks Money Bags if Socialite Owl and Iron Lady are

fighting over him. Socialite Owl laughs and says she cannot fight over her handsome Money

Bags with an ugly Iron Lady. Iron Lady laughs it off that Money Bags can only be handsome

in Socialite Owl's dreams.

Verbal exchanges continue, and Iron Lady tells Socialite Owl that in the past, owls braved

the cold in the night to read the hidden movements of the many schools of fish in the lake.

They read the distant patterns of the stars. They also read the unseen movement of the

winds, and she, Socialite Owl, was busy hiding her head in her nest, sleeping as if tsetse fly

bit her before she was hatched.

Money Bags comes to the defence of Socialite Owl and orders Iron Lady to get out of those

trees; she should not show more disrespect to Socialite Owl. He also orders Feathered Beak

to throw no more insults. Money Bags orders Feathered Beak and Iron Lady out of the

Parliament before he calls Police Owl to arrest them.

They leave.

Socialite Owl tells Money Bags he can now see the friends of Oyundi. Money Bags assures

her that she should not worry, as they will deal with them after the celebration. Socialite

Owl says she does not like signing a pact with Oyundi; she prefers they kill her before

morning comes.

Money Bags is not of the idea as he feels it will trigger an unimaginable protest among the

birds, which even get out of hand because Oyundi has a massive following among both male

and female birds.

Socialite Owl then proposes that they sign the pact and make Oyundi disappear a week later.

Money Bags agrees and tells her to organize with One-Eyed. Then she will be given a decent

send-off.

Money Bags still sees another option to deal with Oyundi. He proposes that they hire goons

who will chant anti-Oyundi slogans during the ceremony, cause chaos and make sure that she

is injured. Then she should be rushed by nightingale to Royal Trees for medical attention,

but they kill her before she reaches there. Socialite owl asks who should be hired for the

task. Money Bags says Abang' Chieth because he is greedy and ready to betray his leader

anytime if he is given something for his stomach.

Osogo's flute is heard. Money Bags says Osogo is praising them; he is singing praising the

owls. His flute is not happy. Money Bags says it is time to go back to the Royal Trees and

prepare for the ceremony that is about to begin. They go away. Red String runs after them

calling Money Bags. He informs him that there is a hole in the royal roof. Someone made a

big hole in the royal roof, and Royal Owl wants Money Bags to immediately go to the Royal

Trees. Red String adds that Tel Tel is nowhere to be found. Socialite wants to start blaming

Money Bags, but he shuts her off.

OBSERVATIONS
 Money Bags is enthusiastic and jovial about his achievements as the second most

decorated Owl and the most trusted Owl by King Tula Nyongoro. Socialite Owl is,

however, cautioning and warns her lover, Money Bags, of forging an alliance with Oyundi.

She feels Oyundi is too cunning, and she could engineer an end to the reign of the owls.

She has that premonition about the fall of the Parliament of Owls.

 Money Bags is too gullible to understand how cunning Oyundi can be. Therefore, she feels

Socialite Owl’s fears are misplaced as Oyundi seems to have run out of ideas; she chose

to close ranks with the owls in forming a unity pact.

 It is a tactical move by Oyundi, and Money Bags is in for a rude shock, more so as he does

not take in Socialite Owl‘s advice because of his arrogance.

 The preparation for the toppling of the leadership is in top gear, and Iron Lady confirms

it by saying she understands there is no difference between day and night. In that, birds

are just birds. There is no superiority.

 Socialite Owl has an ideological difference with Iron Lady, and they fight.

 Any competition in any contest has to be eliminated. If not, then the challenges may be

enormous. Furthermore, in that line, Socialite Owl proposes the killing of Oyundi before

signing the unity pact, but Money Bags fears that it may cause a major uprising among

the birds. They agreed with killing her a week after the Unity Pact had been signed.

Money Bags, however, feels that they can spread propaganda about Oyundi during the

celebrations such that there could be a commotion, which will lead to her being injured.

Moreover, in being taken for medication, she would be killed.

 The happenings in this episode depict a society with a lot of moral decadence, cruelty,

violence and disregard for life. All social ills are only because of furthering political

interests, which is at the expense of the masses and other members of society.

 Conflict arises between Iron Lady and Socialite Owl where SocialiteOwl demands to know

what Iron Lady wants from them, yet she had been working with the day birds to

undermine the owls. Iron Lady responds that she has realized there is no difference

between day and night. Socialite Owl asks what she means by that. Iron Lady says it is a

right question from the wrong quarters. Money Bags laughs. This irks Socialite Owl and

again asks Iron Lady what she means by that. Iron Lady responds that she can never

understand her statement in this world or the next one. They get into a fight.

 Sycophancy comes to the fore as Money Bags leads all the puppet owls in doing

everything for the royal Owl, King Tula. He says they need a loyalty pledge to Royal Owl

and the Parliament of Owls. That all birds should praise the owls and worship Royal Owl,

which by default they will be worshipping him.

 Treachery is another matter worth looking at. Socialite Owl keeps on complaining about

how cunning Oyundi is. She warns Money Bags that Oyundi could destroy the leadership

of owls. She adds that Oyundi is a student of the hare who is so intelligent and cunning

that at one time, he tricked the crocodile and ate all her eggs. She fears Oyundi could

have acquired such trickery and may use it to bring them down.

 We see killings and assassinations when Socialite Owl and Money Bags discuss how to

eliminate Oyundi and make her disappear forever. She has become a thorn in their flesh.

They explore various options of how to eliminate Oyundi. They think of using One-Eyed to

help with her killing. They also think about causing chaos during the Unity Pact

Celebration and getting Oyundi to be injured such that as she is taken to hospital, she is

kellied. A clear picture of what the political class do when they have a stubborn

opposition to their agenda.

 Ironically, Money Bags observes that they are in a Kingdom, thriving in prosperity, under

the good leadership of Royal owl. However, the reality on the ground is that owls are

suffering from a shortage of food and fight over it and more so birds are complaining

about the bad leadership of the Parliament of Owls which passes laws that only favour

owls. More, there is no prosperity in the Kingdom as birds are hunger-stricken and a lot

of political assassinations.

 Socialite Owl foreshadows the fall of the reign of owls where she warns Money Bags that

if he makes a pact with Oyundi, that will surely see to the end of the leadership of owls.

She tries to tell Money Bags not to be that gullible to consider Oyundi as one of them

and that Money Bags ought to listen to her, and if he does not, he will end up ruining the

reign of the owls. A thing which comes to pass.

 Socialite Owl is cautious; she insists to Money Bags to be careful; in trying to bring

Oyundi onto their side as it may be detrimental to the leadership and reign of the Owl.

 Socialite Owl is fearful; she continues that Oyundi is a cunning bird and appointing her to

the parliament of owl is worse than appointing ten vultures to guard the grave of Arum

Tidi. She may do more extensive damage to them.

 Socialite Owl is adamant and tells Money Bags that the last person he should see is his

so-called ally associatingbwith is Ogila Nyakarondo. Ogila Nyakarondo is so clever and

cunning that he could trick King Lion and even tricked the crocodile and ate all her eggs.

 Socialite Owl is inhmane. She advises Money Bags that they need to kill Oyundi to avoid

the reign of owls being destroyed by her. Money Bags assures her that she should not

worry, as they will deal with them after the celebration. Socialite Owl says she does not

like signing a pact with Oyundi; she prefers they kill her before it becomes morning.

 Sarcasm, Feathered Beak enters and sarcastically asks Money Bags if Socialite Owl and

Iron Lady are fighting over him. Socialite Owl laughs and says she cannot fight over her

handsome Money Bags with an ugly Iron Lady. Iron Lady laughs it off that Money Bags

can only be handsome in Socialite Owl’s dreams.

ACT 5
Page 102-116
There is a picture of affluence on the side of Royal trees, while on the other side can be

witnessed plundered forest characterized by the fallen trees. There are dry leaves and dry

twigs everywhere. The grass is dry. A drying river runs on the far left of the Royal Trees,

and it separates the Royal Trees from the other trees. A picture of affluence amid plunder

and hunger in the bird Kingdom.

Veteran P, a news reporter with the bird-eye view television, moves around anxiously. Little

P enters. They are reporting everything that they are seeing.

Veteran P tells Little P that the singing of the birds is getting louder and louder. Veteran P

reports that all day birds and night birds have converged from dawn to praise Royal Owl and

the entire Parliament. He says the Unity Pact celebration will begin shortly.

Litle P commentates that this celebration ends, at least temporarily, the fight between the

day birds is led by small-bodied but courageous Oyundi on one side and the owls is led by

Money Bags on the other.

Veteran P says that day birds and grain-eaters always put their faith in Oyundi and the little

bird never disappoints. He goes on that Oyundi even got support from unlikely quarters after

some night birds became fervent allies of Oyundi. It is incredible as, at first, it sounded like

a dream, but then the dream becomes a reality.

He adds that apparently, nearly all birds look forward to a better parliament that shall serve

with fairness – no more hooting and looting.

Litle P cautions Veteran P to be careful of what he says as Money Bags may accuse him of

irresponsible reporting and may probably press charges against him.

Veteran P dismisses him and says he has been arrested severally but still survived. Little P

compliments him by saying that Veteran P is a tough soul, unlike some parrots who bootlick

the owls. Veteran P then tells Little P that there will be nothing to fear frees oneself from

fear. He says Oyundi has accomplished all these because of her determination. A day bird

has been appointed a member of the Parliament of Owls for the first time.

Little P says that Royal Owl will be present to oversee the swearing in of Oyundi. Veteran P

contemplates what could have made the Royal Owl have a change of heart and what could

have influenced him to decide to bring Oyundi to his side. He wonders if it could be signaling

a future with a more liberal King Tula Nyongoro.

Little P asks Veteran P to comment on the attendance. Veteran P says the birds woke up very

early to come and witness the occasion. A committee of vultures considered to be close

associates of owls is present. Osogo is playing the flute praising the Royal Owl. He adds that

he can see a murder of crows, a pride of ostriches, a quarrel of sparrows; a flight of

swallows; a bank of swans; and a siege of herons. He says it is unbelievable. He sees a

convocation of eagles arriving, a flamboyance of flamingos, all the birds ready to witness the

celebration.

Little P reports that a flight of pigeons had just perched the Royal Trees. He adds that a

watch of nightingales has assured all the birds that they will be ready with first aid in case

of an accident due to the expected turnout. The bats shall provide security under the

supervision of One-Eyed.

Veteran P reports that a run of Chicken is sending a representative to the ceremony; mostly

likely, it will be the cock. He says that the Chicken has always had strategic interests in the

Kingdom of the birds as they seek to be emancipated from the slavery of man. Little P adds

that the hens and the ducks need to be rescued from role (role played by women) in pushing

for change in the Kingdom, mentioning the hen’s role ensuring the mongoose was banned from

the Kingdom of birds.

Veteran P agrees and adds that after a scandal in Parliament of Owls regarding some secret

pact between Money Bags and the mongoose (corruption), Oyundi spilt the beans.

Little P commends that most birds do not want to talk about sensitive issues, especially after

the death of Arum Tidi; they fear Money Bags, who is the King's Blue-eyed. No one wants

to point fingers loudly.

Veteran P continues to report that at one time, Money Bags was spotted bringing

pandemonium of parrots, who had promised to twitter and tweet sweet songs about the

Parliament of Owls every day. He says some parrots lack integrity, for they have repeatedly

betrayed the birds (betrayal). There are loud cheers from the birds. Veteran P reports that

Oyundi is arriving together with Ochongorio and other close allies. The birds cheer

excitedly. However, Tel Tel is missing in action after being arrested for treason.

Little P reports that the birds chant and praise Oyundi and Royal Owl. Royal Owl comes in

carried by three puppet owls, while Money Bags carries the Kingdom's symbol of unity – the

Freedom Flute. Socialite Owl leads the way, cat walking.

Veteran P reports that the Parliament rises to the Kingdom’s anthem to mark the arrival of

Royal Owl. The three puppet owls carry the King into Parliament. His eyes are fixed on the

Freedom Flute in the hands of Money Bags. Little P reports a standing ovation as day birds

cheer with the owls as others watch in utter disbelief. He says some birds are seeing the

Royal Owl for the first time.

Royal Owl sits on his throne; puppet owls stand by his side and back. The birds sit. Money

bags remains standing and steps ahead and starts to speak.

He begins his speech by acknowledging the presence of the Royal King; he addresses Royal

Owl, in the usual praising manner with the others applauding Royal Owl, Tula Nyogoro; the

Owl of owls, bird of every moment, bird of any moment, bird of all moments; bird of great

moments, bird of big moments, bird of moment of monumental momentum. Birds applaud with

an affirmative.

Money Bags continues with his praises, telling the King that without him, there could not be

a sky over their heads and the trees become lifeless; he salutes him.

Money Bags acknowledges the presence of Parliament of Owls' members, night birds,

omnivores, day birds, grain-eaters, and all the other birds. He says may Royal Owl, Tula

Nyongoro, lives forever. He adds that may the Parliament of Owls live to serve the Kingdom

till the Kingdom come. Birds respond with amen.

He thanks everyone for their presence and says that the turnhumbles him out of the day

birds and grain-eaters, which signifies that Oyundi is a force to reckon with. He says soon

it will be daybreak, and they do not wish to subject the King to a long ceremony, that Royal

Owl needs to go and rest before the sun starts sleep.

He delves into the main issue at hand and says that they are there to sign a pact of unity,

which means that they will speak the same language all the time and protect their laws,

among them the Moonlight Law and other laws. He says they have fought with Oyundi several

times but have now decided to work together. He then welcomes the Royal owl to make his

speech. Owls hoot and birds sing.

Ochongorio whispers to Osogo that the owls are already carried away. Osogo adds that the

owls think the birds are singing glory songs.

Royal Owl begins his speech. He says that their struggle several years ago resulted in various

benefits such as their Kingdom, their Parliament, their unity, and their safety. He says the

Kingdom is being transformed, and it is growing, and it is the greatest of all. Birds cheer and

applaud.

Red String whispers to Black String that Oyundi with his bunch is so excited, but she does

not know what awaits her. Black string adds that Oyundi has brought herself into the

slaughterhouse. Red String says they will feast on her at night.

Royal Owl continues his speech. He says that their songs should be archived in their lives,

trees, grasses, bushes, forests, and, most importantly, in their hearts. They sing their

freedom song, the anthem. Red String commends His Majesty for having a fantastic voice.

Royal Owl says back then, he used to sing, but age has caught up with him. Socialite Owl

comes into the conversation saying that his majesty's voice is smooth and sweet. It brings

nostalgia on the suspicious occasion. Birds laugh at her. Money Bags intervenes and tells

Royal Owl to forgive Socialite Owl for she might have meant auspicious occasion, not

suspicious.

Royal Owl tells Money Bags that that is a serious slip of the tongue from Socialite Owl. Birds

laugh. He continues that before he swears in Oyundi, he declares that Oyundi will first be

baptized. Ochongorio is shocked as birds murmur, but Oyundi is calm.

Money Bags warns Ochongorio not to whisper as Royal Owl makes a speech. Oyundi apologizes

on behalf of Ochongorio. Money Bags accepts the apology and, in turn, apologizes to Royal

Owl.

The Royal Owl says Oyundi shall be called Fire-Finch Owl. He declares that Oyundi is joining

the Parliament as an owl and not an ordinary bird. Oyundi accepts that she is ready but

whispers to Ochongorio that something is fishy.

Ochongorio becomes infuriated, she castigates Oyundi to have just agreed to the demand

of Royal Owl, yet he had told her not to trust the owls. Oyundi asks where Tel Tel is;

Ochongorio says she has not seen nor heard from her.

The Royal Owl continues with his speech. He says that a naughty bird broke into his palace

the previous night and left a hole in his roof. He continues that Tel Tel is a wanted bird, and

he will reward any bird that will bring Tel Tel to him, dead or alive.

Oyundi joins in that he can get Tel Tel alive. She asks what the reward will be. The Royal

Owl asks Oyundi how she plans to get Tel Tel, and Oyundi asks Royal Owl how he plans to

reward her. Royal Owl declares that he will make Oyundi the chief of owls so that she can

use her gift of persuasion and wisdom to make the Parliament great again.

Money Bags objects to the Royal Owl's declaration, saying that Royal Owl should make any

other bird the chief whip but not Oyundi. The Royal Owl says what he has said is what will

be. Oyundi asks Money Bags if he is about to disrespect Royal Owl; who has just spoken?

Money Bags claims that Oyundi is lying to his Majesty Royal Owl, and he will not allow that

to happen. However, Oyundi also claims that Money Bags deceives his majesty Royal Owl.

Money Bags thinks Oyundi is out of her mind. Oyundi responds that maybe she may be out

of her mind, then she turns Royal Owl and asks him what it means when the Royal Owl rolls

his eyeballs clockwise while in sleep.

Royal Owl is shocked by Oyundi's question; he asks who shares royal secrets with the other

birds. He angrily says that that is taboo and whoever is found to have done that will not go

unpunished. Oyundi says that eyeballs rolling clockwise means a storm shall come from the

east to the west. Storms in dreams mean that those tortured and murdered at Royal Trees

come back to haunt his Majesty's Parliament.

Oyundi then turns to the birds and tells them that Osogo's flute brings nightmares to owls

every time.

Royal Owl is so much worked up and asks the owls responsible for divulging royal secrets to

the birds. He wonders if it is the puppet owl, One-Eyed or Socialite Owl.

Oyundi continues to address the Royal Owl, that the royal in the past six days alone Royal

Owl hadhad six nightmares. Olik Tiga is no longer another lovely night bird as he attempts

tobitethe Royal Owl in sleep.

Royal Owl still asks who shared his secrets with the little birds. Oyundi continues that the

night they buried Arum Tidi, Royal Owl saw his own shadow creeping on him, creeping like

the reflection of Arum Tidi. She continues that Royal Owl was scared stiff because he is a

coward in darkness and light.

Royal angrily asks if Oyundi just called him a coward.

Oyundi reveals to the Royal Owl that the bird that betrays him is the one that the bird that

dances with him on the Royal Trees when the stars appear in the skies. Money Bags claims

that Oyundi is lying. Oyundi again says that probably she is lying but asks Royal Owl how she

came to know that the Royal Owl is obsessed with fireflies.

Royal Owl gets up angrily and grabs Money Bags, asking him to confirm or deny he is not the

one revealing secrets about him to the birds. Oyundi tells the Royal Owl that she is his loyal

servant, the fire finch owl; she pleads with Royal Owl to see the light even though he has a

phobia for light. Royal Owl cries out to Oyundi that she was stripping him naked.

Oyundi moves away from Royal Owl, but she continues prodding the Royal Owl. She tells him

that she knows he is annoyed, but it is during such times that one knows his true disciples,

she adds that the hole in Royal Owl's roof would not be there if he had true disciples.

Royal Owl asks if he does not have true disciples, and Oyundi is ready to prove that. She

tells Osogo to call Tel Tel and inform her that they cannot wait anymore.. Osogo plays her

flute. Royal Owl says that he hates that song.

Oyundi tells Royal Owl that the song Osogo plays brings Tel Tel home. She tells him that if

he wants, he can listen to weavers’ songs or sing his song, but if he wants Tel Tel to come,

OBSERVATIONS
 It is the day of celebration of the signing of the Unity Pact. All-day birds and night

birds have converged from dawn to witness the occasion. This signing of the Unity Pact

means that the owls and the other birds, the day birds and the night birds, will speak

the same language all the time and protect their laws, among them the Moonlight Law

and other laws. Money Bags says they have fought with Oyundi several times but have

now decided to work together.

 The day birds and grain-eaters have always put their faith in Oyundi, and the little bird

never disappoints. They trust her to bring good tidings from this partnership with the

night birds. We get to see most things through the Birds-eye view television network

reporters; Veteran P and Little P.

 Amidst the celebration, can be witnessed a section of the Kingdom, in the Royal Trees

which speak of affluence, while the other side is full of signs of plunder and wanton

destruction of trees. There are dry leaves and dry twigs everywhere. The grass is dry.

A drying river runs on the far left of the Royal Trees, and it separates the Royal Trees

from the other trees. A picture of affluence amid plunder and hunger in the bird

Kingdom.

 The celebration brings an end to the animosity between the daybirds and the owls who

are members of parliament. Members of Parliament agree to the unity pact as they hope

it brings an end to the conflict. While the day birds, led by the little Oyundi, want to

use this celebration to initiate a change in leadership of the Parliament so that they

come up with an institution that will pass laws that have the interest of all parties,

which will see fairness in representation and above all, a parliament which will ensure

that the rights, freedoms and lives of all are protected and respected.

 A lot of intrigues and underhand methods and plans are ready for execution. Red String

and Black string have their own idea to eliminate Oyundi. Unknown to them, Oyundi and

his group are ready for the revolt against the Parliament of Owls and are ready to

overhaul the whole system and make it new.

 This section highlights the role of media. The media has a task to inform, report. The

media has to be factual and responsible in their reporting so that it does not bring

friction with the authorities and to avoid misinformation and disinformation to the

public. Veteran P and Little P are involved in giving the news during the Unity Pact

Celebrations.

 Plunder and misappropriation of resources are brought out clearly with the picture of

plunder where trees are cut; it is also clear that the birds are hunger stricken while the

Royal Trees is a picture of affluence.

 Unity and oneness are evident when all birds come together come together. Veteran P

tells Little P that the singing of the birds is getting louder and louder. Veteran P reports

that all day birds and night birds have converged thus dawn to praise Royal Owl and the

entire Parliament. He says the Unity Pact Celebration will begin shortly.

 They have to witness the swearing-in of a day bird, not an owl, into the Parliament.

 A conflict which has been seen between the day birds led by small-bodied but

courageous Oyundi on one side and night birds; the owls led by Money Bags on the other

is ended even if temporarily by the signing of the Unity Pact.

 There is optimism and hope as all-day birds and grain-eaters always put their faith in

Oyundi, and the little bird never disappoints. He goes on that Oyundi even got support

from unlikely quarters after some night birds became fervent allies of Oyundi. It is

incredible as, at first, it sounded like a dream, but then the dream becomes a reality. He

adds that apparently, nearly all birds look forward to a better parliament that shall

serve with fairness - no more hooting and looting.

 Resilience and determination are what has propelled Oyundi to success. Veteran P then

tells Litle P that if one frees oneself from fear, there will be nothing to fear. He says

Oyundi has been able to accomplish all these because of her determination. For the first

time, a day bird has been appointed a member of the Parliament of Owls.

 Betrayal is brought out when Oyundi reveals to the Royal Owl that the bird that betrays

him is the one that dances with him on the Royal Trees when the stars appear in the

skies. Money Bags claims that Oyundi is lying. Oyundi again says that probably she is

lying but asks Royal Owl how she came to know that the Royal Owl is obsessed with

fireflies. Royal Owl gets up angrily and grabs Money Bags, asking him to confirm or deny

he is not the one revealing secrets about him to the birds. Oyundi tells Royal Owl that

she is his loyal servant, the fire finch owl; she pleads with Royal King to let him go.

 Women have played a great role in society to bring the desired change. Oyundi, who is

rallying to bring fairness in the Bird Kingdom,is a female. The hen also played a great

role to ensure the mongoose was banished from the bird Kingdom. He adds that he

thinks female birds have played a great role in pushing for change in the Kingdom,

mentioning the role the hen played in with Oyundi who spilt the beans about the matter.

 Fear and intimidation are highlighted as most birds do not want to talk about sensitive

issues, especially after the death of Arum Tidi; they fear Money Bags, who is the King's

Blue-eyed. No one wants to loudly point fingers.

 Deceit comes out where Red String and Black String, working together, have planned

the killing of Oyundi, but they have pretended like they are celebrating her joining of

Parliament of Owls. Red String whispers to Black String that Oyundi with his bunch is so

excited, but she does not know what awaits her. Black string adds that Oyundi has

brought herself into the slaughterhouse. Red String says they will feast on her at night.

 Oyundi is apologetic. Oyundi apologizes on behalf of Ochongorio. Money Bags warns

Ochongorio not to go whispering while Royal Owl is making a speech. Money Bags accepts

the apology and, in turn, apologizes to Royal Owl.

Tel Tel comes in; she is welcome by Ochongorio to the Flock of Birds instead of the

Parliament of Owls. Owls look astonished; they shout that that is a Parliament of Owls and

not Flock of Birds. Royal Owl asks Tel Tel how many birds are there, and she says many of

them. Royal Owl tells her that all the birds present will be witnesses and only the truth shall

set her free, but she responds that in Royal Owl's Kingdom, the truth imprisons instead of

setting one free.

Money Bags quickly tells the Royal Owl that the birds want to shame him, and they cannot

allow that and urges the Royal Owl not to be duped into believing the birds. Royal Owl asks

Tel Tel why he should believe her, yet he had given her a job, and she betrayed him. She

tells the Royal Owl that she is just a messenger, just as she worked for Royal Owl and asks

Royal Owl if he wants to kill the messenger.

Money Bags calls Tel Tel a traitor and asks Royal Owl how many times she has been jailed

since independence. Royal Owl shuts Money Bags up. Oyundi tells Royal Owl that the traitor

is the one who reveals the secrets of Royal Owl to birds at night. She goes on that all birds

hated Royal Owl because of Money Bags. However, that morning all the birds sacrificed their

sleep to come and sing Royal Owl songs of praises.

Tel Tel continues and repeats that she is only a messenger, and Royal Owl demands to know

whose messenger she is. Shes tells him the answer lies in the Bead. Royal Owl is shocked

that she knows about the Bead. Tel Tel continues that it is the Golden Bead. Royal Owl, so

shocked, asks her if she knows the power of the Bead. Tel Tel says she did not know about

the Bead until Money bags visited her in her cell the previous night.

Money Bags shouts that she is a liar. Royal Owl shuts Money Bags up. Oyundi asks Tel Tel;

what she is saying about the Bead. Tel Tel continues to explain that the powers of the King

are stored in the Bead, and the Bead is permanently stored in Royal Owl's ancestor's

eggshell in an undisclosed location in the Royal Trees. Its location is only known to the King

and his close associates. She goes on that this Bead gives the king wisdom and power to

govern all birds, and without the Bead, the Parliament of Owls will crumble, and the worst is

that the King loses his power to govern.

Royal Owl is so enraged; he commands Tel Tel to stop and demands Money Bags to tell him

what he wants to hear. Money Bags says he does not know what is going on. Tel Tel tells

Money Bags that the Unity Pact Celebration was going to be his coronation.

Money Bags attempts to get the attention of Royal Owl, but Royal Owl tightens his grip on

his neck and calls him a traitor, but Money Bags pleads with Royal Owl to hear him out. He

says the allegations are not true. That it is a trick by Oyundi, he adds that the day birds

want to damage his image to finish him politically. Birds boo him.

Oyundi tells Money Bags that he has tarnished the image of the Parliament, that of Royal

Owl and other owls, and the entire Kingdom.

Tel Tel speaks to the Royal Owl that the Royal Owl was convinced that Olik Tiga would serve

the King’s interests, but it was all a lie as Olik Tiga is blind but with an ability to read minds

and probably his work was to read the mind of Royal on on behalf of his master.

Royal Owl, who is very angry, demands to know Olik Tiga's master. Oyundi asks the birds

who the master is, and they shout that it is Money Bags. Royal Owl is surprised by the

response that it is Money Bags.

Money Bags tries to defend himself and tells Royal Owl that he did all that to protect the

Royal Owl and his throne.

Vultures start chanting that Money Bags must go; they are joined by other birds. Royal Owl

is so exasperated and announces that from that particular moment, he has relieved Money

Bags of his duties and stripped him of all the royal titles and state commendations that he

received from the King's throne. He orders Police Owl to arrest Money Bags and take him

away. Money Bags is arrested and taken away.

Money Bags tells the Royal Owl that if that is how he pays his loyal disciples, he will pay for

his arrest; Royal Owl looks away, tears lingering. Fleshy carcass tells Royal Owl that it is

time to reward the vultures for their loyalty. Ochongorio jumps in and objects and tells

Fleshy Carcass that they respect their deceased brothers and sisters and they cannot let

the vultures dance on their graves or break into their mortuaries.

Fleshy carcass warns her to watch his mouth and turns to Royal Owl, asking if they are not

patriotic enough to join into the leadership.

Royal Owl responds that the vultures are patriotic enough. The birds shout Oyundi's name.

Royal Owl takes back his seat and announces that with the powers conferred on him by the

Laws of the Kingdom, he appoints fire-finch Owl as a member of Parliament of Owls and

subsequently as the speaker of the Parliament of Owls. He goes further to say that Iron

lady will take over as the Majority leader. Birds burst into songs, except a few owls and

vultures.

Socialite Owl asks Royal, King, about herself. Feathered Beak salutes Royal Owl; he says he

is proud to be an owl, and that day was the greatest day of his life.

Red String whispers that the King has lost it. Black string says he does not want to be left

out. He stands and starts to praise Royal Owl. He congratulates Royal Owl and says that

they adore him and that he is the best they will ever have. He turns and congratulates Fire-

Finch Owl. He continues that that is a great day, and may the traitor rest in peace.

Birds shout Oyundi's name.

for standing to witness that moment of the truth. Red String tells her to also salute the

Police Owl walks in and says he brings greetings from Python. Royal Owl, who ignores Police

Owl, announces that with the power conferred on him in the law, he sentences all bats and

any other accomplices of Money Bags' act treason to death with immediate effect. He says

they have broken the law of privacy and ordered their arrests. Police Owl signals puppet

owls to move away from the throne.

Birds shout long live the King. Osogo says he dedicates the day to all his relatives killed in

cold blood by Money Bags and his goons.

Oyundi, with the powers conferred on her in the Laws of the Kingdom, dissolves the

Parliament. She announces that from then henceforth, the house shall be called Flock of

Birds, and all birds shall be represented.

Royal Owl cuts in and tells Oyundi that all powers are exercised through him. Tel Tel tells

Royal Owl that he no longer holds any power as the Golden Bead is no longer in his hands. He

adds that the sun is about to rise and will bring a new day. There are murmurs the Royal Owl

rises and orders to be given the Golden Bead, which Oyundi shows to him. Royal Owl is getting

worked up. He warns and threatens Oyundi that she should remember she is still a day bird.

Oyundi courageously tells Royal Owl that he no longer has the power, and his wisdom is fading

away, his strength is running out, and he will soon be like any bird, and if the sun rises, he

will lose all his power. Royal Owl is infuriated that he sacrificed Money Bags for the sake of

justice, and yet Oyundi is belittling him. He pounces on Oyundi and grabs the Bead from her.

Oyundi struggles to free herself from the King's grip, then she tells Royal Owl that he did
not sacrifice his ally, but he killed him for his selfish interests because he wanted his Golden
Bead back. She adds that it is time to free the Kingdom from the cruel and oppressive rules
of the owls.
Royal Owl admires the Golden Bead then says that since he has it, he will rule until he dies

for the sake of peace and prosperity of the great Kingdom. Oyundi bursts into laughter.

Royal Owl is surprised, and Oyundi calls him royal powerless.

but Oyundi reminds him that she had told him he was powerless and no bird will listen to him.

Royal Owl grabs Police Owl and orders him to arrest Oyundi, the fire finch and feed her to

Python, but Police Owl says Python is long dead after eating poisoned carcasses of bats.

Oyundi rubs it in Royal Owl's skin that he no longer has the powers or wisdom to rule. She

is supported by Tel Tel that Royal Owl no longer has the power to rule because Oyundi dipped

the Golden Bead at the river point where Arum Tidi was murdered, which signified the birth

of a new Kingdom.

The Golden Bead falls from Royal Owl's hands as he groans and urges owls to arrest Oyundi

as she is working with their enemies to remove them from power.

Oyundi announces that it is time to chase the owls out of Parliament and sing songs for final

liberation. Oyundi pounces on the Royal Owl, who cowardly takes off. Pandemonium ensues,

and the owls are chased away.

Birds sing Oyundi's name. Oyundi says that the Kingdom is free at last. Osogo says they

should make music as they remember the ugly era of owls. Feathered Beak points out that

he is an owl, but he stands with the other birds, and Osogo congratulates him for that. Iron

that it is was for the greater good of the Kingdom.

that they go to celebrate at the Royal Trees. Ochongorio shouts UPC, and Iron Lady

commends that it is unity for all the birds. Ochongorio asks Iron Lady how they should

celebrate such a great achievement of liberation. He asks for the poetesses and verse

Iron Lady says they will celebrate with song, poem, dance, and with lyrics of twittering birds

the royal secrets to the day birds.

secrets of the King to other birds, and more so, he has worked to bring down the

leadership of the Royal Owl, for instance, hiring of Olik Tiga to spy on the King. Oyundi's

his position as his trusted right-hand Owl to try and take power from him; he, therefore,

decides to order the killing of Money Bags as a payback.

a well-functioning parliament that will care about all the birds.

among others, plan for the removal of the bird leadership of Parliament of owls. They set

Money Bags against the Royal Owl, such that Money Bags is relieved of his duties, then

they remove king Tula in leadership as he has been complacent in the misuse of powers by

the Parliament, a practice which led to the suffering of any birds.

 Individualism is brought out by Tula, who decides to expend with Money Bags so as to try
and salvage his position and trust of the birds to remain as their leader but in vain.
 There is a misappropriation of public resources. Money Bags has trees been the face of

plunder and looting of state resources. The royal trees are in a state of affluence, while

the other sections for the majority of birds are languishing in poverty and hunger.
